Every now and then it seems that we need to restart the HL engine to solve this problem - I blame VAC myself, but then I know jack.........

just tried both servers and got same "server verification fail" message

both my machines are getting it every now and then last 8 hrs or so

yeah, just type "retry" in the console a few times. should go through after a few tries
