30 mins ago I swapped the jacks on the sound card as usual, to switch to headphones for some CS. I noticed, that the volume was very low. I checked all kinds of settings, but even at max volume all playback with headphones was rather low. Mic was still same level (?) it seemed.
I tried to swap back to the Klipsch 2.1 speakers I have on the desktop at same volume level as usual. Was a bit low, as well. Hm, I reinstalled the driver, and clicked reset to default afterwards. That did it for playback with speakers.
Swapped back to headphones, still very low. Tried resetting all kinds of things. Then I went to diagnostics from creative, which gave me this:
The audio device supported by this application may not be present or may be operating in an unsupported mode. You need to close this application.
After trying all kinds of settings I can't see to locate the problem with the sound.
One other bug, though - sometimes, when I swap between jacks, when inserting the 2nd one (say swapping from headphones to speakers) the card just instantly screams out a high-pitches sounds, non-stop. I can then swap playback "mode" back and forth and it is then gone. But... not normal me thinks...
Any ideas? I want to play CS... with sound :eyebrow:
Edit: Device manager reports no problems. No crashes.
Checked your standard windowsnoisesettings?
As in the one on your taskbar?

Any chance that the card has come unseated? I would pull it and re-seat just in case.
Is the problem just in CS or everything? Did you check your CS audio settings?

I second that motion. My Audigy2 sometimes gets unseated after I've been messing about inside the PC case. Device manager is fine but the creative driver installers say the card isn't there etc etc. Worth a go.
Re-install the drivers?
You might wanna try to pull the card out, clean the contact surfaces (Thingies that go into the PCI slot) with a pencil rubber thingie (Viskelæder)
Damn cant speak/write in this heat :O
Thanks guys. I will try and take out the card and re-seat it. And clean it with the pencil rubber thingie (Kreg: hehe)
The sound problem has no relation to any specific program. It is only, when I plug in the headphones. And no, the headphones are working fine as usual. My guess - somehow the amp in the card, or whatever to run the headphones, is blown so it doesn't amplify decently. And the Klipsch is so delicate on the volume control that I am not sure if I actually have to turn op the volume or not to get same level.
When I crank the mixer to 100% and have headphones on, it is clear and understandable, but if there is some background noise it is too low. I can't hear details in CS, basically just shots and some chat.
I have reinstalled the driver to begin with to no avail (see top post)
Getting quite frustrated
Make sure no dirt has got into the headphone socket - you can usually use a vacuum to clean it out if you need to.

Goodcall.. listen to the smart man..
I took out the card, disabled the power supply just for kicks, clicked power on just be sure all remaining current was out, cleaned the sockets and the card, moved it to another PCI-socket as well, installed the card and reinstalled drivers again. Not sure which part did it, but it works! :D
Thanks a bunch for helping guys :dmw::clap2::thumbsup2::toast::showoff::rockon:
