Just as a suggestion, could we please have a topic made and link in the dmw community part of the forum. By this i mean a guide/ brief tutorial of what irc is and how to set it up to connect to the channel. I think the reason why the channel has been pretty empty for a long while is due to the above and if we get a topic/ link on the forum this could change, as more people will understand how and where to chat to the community. Maybe even a java chat facility could be setup but these are just a couple of suggestions. For those new to irc I think you can also set up irc to connect to any channel/ server when you connect without having to find it each time.

Searchfunction from this forum;

Quote from: TeaLeaf;72471If you're in Mirc then:

1. Under Mirc Options>Connect>Server configure Mirc to connect to "Quakenet: Random Server".
2. Then when you start Mirc it will automatically bring up the connect window, which should show your details for the session and the fact it is going to connect to a random Quakenet server. Click the "Connect" button.
3. When it has connected (this can take anything from 5 seconds to 2 minutes) a box will pop up with a list of channels to which you can connect. Ignore the list and type "#deadmen" in the top box and then hit enter (ignore the quotes). Et voila! You're now connected to #deadmen and you will see Q (who keeps our room open for us) and also whomever else is in the room.

One could also use one of the easy web-based ones... like this one for instance... http://www.jwirc.com/chat.html

I think this needs a bump, I'm sometimes hanging on the channel and its dead quiet :g:
I have just started to use irc, but it isn't too hard, and would be nice to talk to all the people in dMw and to example WoW playing folks without playing.

Aye, i've popped into dMw's IRC channel a few times during the day, but apart from the last tourney it's always been empty. If people were on there it'd be good for a chat though.

Unless there is a use for it people will not frequent it.  Without league CS the use stopped and hence people did not log to IRC.  Find a use for it I guess.

could we get a vent channel, big have a decent 1 for 1.99 a month, surely we can do the same advantages are

a) we dont have to rely on the in games steaming pile of comms
b) if there were mutiple channels ie 1 for sog, 1 for cs:s meat, baldric, bf2 and lfs, then 1 more channel for random games then ppl can log on see in a glance what ppl are playing by what channel they are in

i honestly think this is the way forward... and no i dont work for vent

i think [RIP]'s 100 person vent channel was 20 a month with allowance for as many channels as you like

and i wont get kicked to desktop like in cs:s when everyone laughs at ghost or ninja and get a buffer overflow message, and other  ppl's slowdown in cs:s due to the comms

I've posted this in the tourney thread but thought it may be useful here as well:

For anyone that doesn't have an IRC client, I've just tested HydraIRC (http://www.hydrairc.com/index.php?page=downloads).  Once installed, set up your identity (the window opens the first time you run the program).
Then click "File-> New Server" and in the URI field type "IRC://irc.quakenet.org:6667/#deadmen"
the click OK.  If it comes up with a message like this:
     Quote:
                                                 [10:58] *** Connecting to "irc.quakenet.org:6667" (Attempt 1 of 110)
[10:58] *** Resolving host name
[10:58] *** Could not resolve host name
[10:58] *** Disconnected (2008-12-27 10:58:30)
Then type /server irc.quakenet.eu.org/#deadmen in the command box at the bottom of the window that message appears in.
Once working, make sure you add it to your Favourites and it will be easy to join next time.

Or you can just go to http://webchat.quakenet.org and fill in a nickname of your choice, and #deadmen for channel. Might be easier for those unfamiliar with IRC clients and whatnot :)
