I've just returned from a long weekend hiking in Tafjordfjella ("The Tafjord Mountains" (really crappy wiki page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tafjordfjella) about the place)). I just thought I should share some pictures and words, and also ask for any updates, as there (again ) are way too many posts to read through. Have tried to read those topics looking the most important though...
It was a great long weekend, far away from civilization, even though it's only less than a two hour drive from where I live. No internet, no computers, not even signals for my cell phone. Had walks for roughly 15 kilometers each day, with heights varying from 450m to 1350m - it was just great!
Walking in the mountains from cabin to cabin, breathing the fresh air, getting sore feet, drinking of the fresh icy water you run across everywhere, being bitten by mosquitoes, don't see a single person other than those you walk with for miles and miles around you - that is about as good as it gets :D
This summer I've been working almost all the time, so I didn't have time for more than a long weekend. Next summer however, after I'm done with my MSc and before I start working, I hope to be able to do a longer trip, at least a week, perhaps two - can hardly wait!
I'm not a good photographer, nor do I have a good camera, but I took lots of pictures and thought I should share a couple with some real Norwegian nature with you folks.
Yes, we are proud of it - and no, we don't hesitate (nor are we ashamed) to brag about it :flirty:

From hut to hut, drinking the icy water... same stuff I love about hiking in Iceland :)
Nice photo's Bob.
I must say I'm jealous....I bet there's fish in that water.

If some support in planning is what is needed to persuade you, I would be happy to help with all that I can. Such a trip could be really, really cool.
indeed this is a great landscape and its very beautiful! i wish i was there
youre lucky because the most parts of norway are like that... i think :g:
i grew up in the "eifel" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eifel )
the eifel is the most beautiful landscape in germany. well, its very quiet there just like you described it bob. that was the reason why i moved to cologne 3 years ago. but now, after i lived so long in a bigger city, i miss the eifel a lot! i miss the calmness life and the landscape which is indescribably aesthetic.
i love the beauty of the nature  - it gives peace to the mind
here are a few impressions of my home country. on the last picture you can see the "maare". these are dead vulcanos which are now filled with water. in summer we used to swim there nearly everyday...

Welcome back Bob.
There's an interesting read in CharlieCompany (I believe you can read that area).
Nice pictures! I bet Whitey would have done better but I think his camera does all the hard work :flirty:.
Here's btw where King, da_Ricci, me and Luminance live;
Nijverdal, it's in the East of the NL and people come over here to enjoy the views from our "hills"

It's better in the summertime when all the plants are purple

aww.. make wanna travel the world. and bob, seem like you had a nice trip. to bad i saw some clouds on the pics. and i guess there was some mountain trout in those rivers? i usually have a few trips to tafjord myself. but i spend my time by the sea trying to catch a big salamon or two. gives a kick. and it's verry nice when it's all quiet and you can see the wind playing with the water :D
Well the norwegian nature beats the danish one.. Considered going to Flåm or what its called after seeing some pictures from there :)
btw spiritus I think you broke your signature :g:
awesome pics bob, i might be over at some point so you can show me arround up there :narnar:

If you see the red pin on this map (http://kart.gulesider.no/kart/map.c?ps=4&companies=&imgt=MAP&id=a_10000579041&n=62.2168357146295&s=62.1649067487781&e=7.67699533473007&w=7.50802746471547&markX=316&markY=275&tool=pan&scrollX=0&scrollY=0), that's the location on the main cabin in thee area I was walking. You can than just zoom out to see where in the country it's located. Following is also a pretty OK overview map (http://www.aast.no/BILDELAGER/tafjordkart_50.jpg) of the area. The cabin I pinned in the previous link you can see almost in the center of the picture, named Reindalseter.
And by the way, Tafjordfjella is not one of the national parks in Norway, it's simply just a big area with lots and lots of mountains and hiking terrain, containing a good network of cabins drifted mostly by the local tourist organization.
Quote from: Blunt;200281I bet there's fish in that water.
I talked with the lady that was stationed on one of the cabins I spend a night at, and she told me that last year she had gotten somewhere around 40-50 fishes from setting out a net (is that the right word in English?) in a water close by. This year however she barely got a handful - but the summer has been quite colder than earlier, so that might be the explanation.

Organizing a trip - now there's an interesting idea! Why don't we have a talk about it at the November lan? No booking is really needed for these kind of things, and I really don't have that much control over my summer vacation next year yet either (I can only hope for a good time off before I start work), but I'll bring lots of pictures, we could chat a bit about it and see what may come of it :)

Nope, can't say I can - so enlighten me :)

Right... I've heard of those hills, and how you Dutchies cope with 'em...
My mother had visit from some Dutch friends last summer. She brought 'em on a small trip to the local town mountain (it's more of a small hill than a mountain), Sukkertoppen (The Sugar Top). The difference in height from top to bottom ain't more than around 250m, and it's something you easily walk up on 30 minutes. The path up there is really nice, and the ascent rate isn't really anything to talk about at all.
Still, when they reached the top (and in waaaay more than 30min), they were almost at the brink of death...
But than again, Bastet told me that the place they come from (Den Haag, or something) lies 5m below water, so the height difference might have been a bit rough on 'em :narnar:

okie doke:D
Can't enlighten you as it's Charlie-Company only...:no2:
I know we don't have large hills or such but they are the largest in the Netherlands. Just do a Google and Wiki on Sallandse Heuvelrug.
Not all Dutchies have the same condition lol. Besides onlinegaming I do have other hobbies you know.:beer:and other things...
As said, I live in the Est of the Netherlands, towards the German border.
