Title: Outlook Express Attachments
Post by: A Twig on June 03, 2003, 10:45:37 AM
Erm yeah, basically OE (Outlook Express) won't allow me to open any atachments and its really pissing me off. Any way to fix this? Microsofts Windows Help didn't, anyone got any solutions?

Twig, It depends what the attachments are. By default it won't allow .exe files to be opened and removes them from view of you Inbox and leaves the text only from that email.

You need to use a small registry hack to allow the files you want to view to be seen.

Tell me... what is the filename you are trying to open?

I think you can do this.

if you forward the mail somewhere else you can open it from your sent items. I might be talking b0llox though

Erm, I take it you've done this already?

Options > Security Tab > Uncheck 'Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus.'

If not, try it.  Worked for me when I couldn't get any attachments to open either.

Do what the dead body says and all will be well.

All very good advice but of course missing the point just a bit

To really solve your problem go Here (http://www.pmail.com/) and download the finest free e-mail software ever devised by man.

Enjoy  :D

Tried it, dumped it! Too much fiddling about. Didn't automatically import my address book or email accounts. Life's too short to faff about setting up what is after all just an email programme. The messages won't be any more interesting and it won't give me more time to spend with my family. Where the hell is that family? Helloooo. Sigh!

:(

Shame as it's a good bit of software. Depends on the amount of e-mail you get of course. I'm a sadact geek so get all sorts of newsletters and stuff (not the "Hey I'm so poplular I get loads of mail" stuff, but the "Hey I'm so bored I sign up to every newsletter under the sun".

Seriously I get about twenty e-mail a day and the rules filter and customisability (is that a word?) is far superior to OE, as is PGP inigration. distibution lists (I send mail too :) ) And people don't write that many exploits for Pegasus compared to OE, which is a bonus.

But each to their own  :)
