I am not sure this is the place but... I need to know if someone has had any experiences like this. To take it from the end:
Abt. 10 years ago I noticed that I had a slight shaking feeling in my legs, when raising my ancle. If I moved it without muscle, for instance lifiting it myself, it would be okay. But if I used muscle to do it it would be like a set of tiny jerks. Like shaking while moving, sort of. This is very little and after asking a physiotherapist who said this was due to underdeveloped and tired muscles I did nothinh about it.
I did not think much of it until a year ago maybe. I noticed after the tough weekends with hangovers my hands would shake rather badly, and after for instance hard physical exercise it would too. And I mean shakes bad...
But it is getting worse. The last 6 months it has severely deteriorated. It appears at random. It is basically in all my muscles. I can feel it. When moving all my joints, I can, now that I pay attention, feel that I move with tiny, ultratiny, jerking movements. No flow.
But my hands and ancles are by far the worst. the other day I could not type on the phone without assisting one hand with the other. Now it is completely unaffected by drinking or muscle tiredness. It pops up if it wants to, leaves when it wants to. I can go a couple of days with minor shakes and then all of the sudden I can't drink without using two hands around the cup.
I've been to the doc who could find nothing wrong with me (other than of course me shaking). I insisted and we did some blood tests. Nothing. I am certain it is not stress. My thesis is hard, but no way as hard as working as an independent for 4 years. This is outright fun to be honest. I am waiting for one final blood test. If there is nothing in it, I will ask him to send me to some specialist. I have googled my arse off, but can't find much. Who the **** should I be sent to??
Right now I am supposed to work on a deadline but I shake so bad I can't get the keys right. Typing this takes forever. I am about to explode with frustration by not being able to control my hands.
And please for once, refrain from the fun stuff. I am dead serious about this... anyone here with the slighest idea?
i get unexpected shakes as well. Mine are due to GWS which I'm sure you don't suffer from.
I'm no medic but I'm smart enough to realise that muscles are controlled by nerves; suggest you see a neurology specialist?
Oh and don't give up on finding an answer; sometimes doctors need hit over the head with a stick before they see the obvious.
Too much cafeine is my 1st thought (well 2nd after self abuse, but you said no funny stuff)
I was getting anxiety attacks and reported to my quack. He suggested coffee/tea overdose.
I was drinking alot of coffee (fresh ground espresso stylee) so I cut back and it got better.
but it wasn't the cause, that was stress.
cafeine o/d just exaggerated the symptoms and brought them to the fore.

Caffeine can sometimes influence me. I have this feeling, that stuff I do that give normal people shakes I have as well. And then there is this idiosyncratic stuff I can't isolate. Coming and going as it sees fit. The other evening I was getting plastered at a friends house watching telly and it just appeared. I was drinking a can of beer and I had to switch to both hands. About 3 hours later it was gone. When I went to bed in a good mood with a smile on my face after a good evening I was shaking like an idiot. I doubt it is stress nor caffeine. But when I have the shakes they sure don't make it better. I guess I should stay off the soda water

A neurologist sounds like a plan. Will run it by the doc when I get the results from the blood test next week. And yeah, I've learned to push the doc. He doesn't do a thing unless he has to. Learned that years ago the hard way. Idon't know why I keep him, probably because he is the doc for the whole family.
not to sound pessimistic, check about parkinsons - from what ive seen it consists of shaking
sometimes i get wierd shacking/vibrations in my legs when lying on a bed..

I've checked the stuff myself but I don't have the muscle stiffness and the slow movement of muscles that comes with it. I doubt it is it, but if the neurologist doesn't find anything I will have the doc check that as well...
The twitches are common and not related to the shakes, I have them as well though. Doc says they are related to the brain switching modes as you fall a sleep :)
I do sometimes get a weird twitch but usually when I've been very active with sporting.
Last night I had that aswell but then again, I had 2 hours of sporting.
Don't trust docters to much btw, second opinion is allways better.
Usually a doc just out of medschool is a bit better...
Hope you get it sorted...
I got a pretty consistent shaking in my hands, but its nothing that I really think about, as it isn't that bad..
When Im hungover it tends to get worse, so other people notice it aswell.. or when I haven't eaten or had to much sugar (soda, candy or whatnut) its somewhat bad..
Its mainly just my hands though, so don't think its the same..

Yeap, I do that just before I fall to sleep, I read somewhere that it's classed as a fit. Perhaps you are having minor fits of some kind?
A neurologist sounds like you best bet.
I know what you mean about having to push Docs, sometimes it feels like you need to know as much as them so that you know what to ask for. Maybe you need a second opinion?
I'm not an expert, but when it's happening in unrelated areas it's got to be either body chemistry or in the brain. I assume you get plenty of salt in your diet, which has a big part to do with nerves workings (and these can be washed out by drinking which dehydrates you). I'm guessing a doctor would have checked this/the blood test.
Short of any blows to the head causing this and it getting slowly worse, I guess brain related, stress can do very strange things, and often the person suffering won't think they're any more stressed than usual. Holiday maybe?
Also I would definately go to a neurologist because if there is something that can be seen as the cause the sooner the better for treatment.
stress doesnt origin only when your abilities are too low for the tasks you must do. i mean when youre overchallenged- well, then its obviously that youre stressed.
but most of the times, you dont notice it.
when you just have a lot of work to do (you probably are very busy when you do your doctoral thesis), or when its loud, pressure, or little problems with relationships and even when the temperature rise, resp. becomes lower.
well, mostly you dont notice that youre stressed.
because of the fact that your mind dont notice, your body start certain reactions to influence your actions.
for example, from time to time i get a very hard ache on my back, so hard that i cant move for 2 days. then im forced to stay in bed until its better.
this is highly unpleasant (exept i have a nice girl who cosset me)
well, this comes mostly when im very busy and when i do a lot of sports. obviously im doing too much then, but i dont notice that. so a few doctors told me, that my body shut down and make problems, to force me to rest a bit...
first i was very unsatisfied with this diagnosis.
but as i thought about that, it sounds plausible to me.
when your mind dont notice, that you need a break, then your body force you to rest.
from my experience, i think that your body and your mind are connected to each other,
which means:
when youre sick and youve pain, then you arent happy in the mind, and the other way around; when you are sad or stressed, your body wont funktion very well.
when youre happy and lucky, your body will shine.
resp. when your body is healthy, balanced and relaxed, youll be happy in mind.
body and mind are connected to each other, and maybe, its a reaction because youre very busy, or have certain problems...
well, its a thought from me. it musnt be right, and i would understand if youre a bit ****ed because of my ideas. im not a doctor nor do i have knowledge about medicine, but from my experience, many diseases have a very simple cause and because of that, sometimes its also simple to cure, espacially when the specialists cant find any physical cause.
Apart from seeing doctor/specialist I would recommend doing as much as you can to live healthy therefore you will cut down a load of bull from the quacks.
They will start by analysing how much you drink, smoke, sleep. They will check your diet and stress levels.
So if you get yourself in peak condition before you see a specialist you can cut to the chase.
Alcohol is bad man! Real bad even though we all love it you need to cut it out for about 2 months to work out if its the alcohol messing you up.
Even though it makes you feel good it masks symptoms that you would normally be able to put your finger on.
Stress : let me tell you about stress 2 years ago a had a problem where I suffered from full left sided paralysis. The first time it happened they thought I had, had a stroke I was rushed into hospital given every test going inc. MRI ultrasound heart scans etc. Nothing!
Turned out I suffer from a rare form of Migraine which is triggered by stress..
Stress!! I said, now I am the most chilled out laid back person on this planet, live and let live etc.
On the inside un beknown to me I am highly strung and stressed out with a host of things that a surpress.
Look into stress mate its very powerful, Stress can cause and miminic problems. Stress can make people feel like they are having heart attacks heamorages and the like..
This is where alcohol(A) comes in, When drunk you feel good but A actually depresses you, also when you have A in your body you dont have a 'Real' sleep because you body is repairing itself.
So the next day you are tired, depressed and in need of the nutriants you lost the night before and this goes on in a circle of damage.
When your body is low on resources your stress levels peak but if you have another session you feel great, the next day your stress levels increase and so on.
Sorry to ramble on mate but its better to cure yourself than expect a doctor to be bang on.
Alternatively, Fake a collapse say you were shaking dizzy and your left side felt funny and you'll get the works.
Hope this helps you.
Cheers for you posts fellas. Guess I can't rule out stress.
To add to the stress arguement I am helping a friend of mine through stress related issues. Sounds a little like your porblem except he had really serious seizures and couldn't move for several minutes. He also has panic attacks that could knock him completely unconcious (like Tony Soprano of of the Sopranos TV series) He has been positively diagnosed with something called General Anxiety Disorder. The odd thing is that he was under enormous stress a while back (divorce) and had no problems with any illness. But as soon as everything got sorted out and he started seeing a really nice woman, he went to pieces. It's called delayed stress or something. Doesn't hit until the stressful times are over?? Sounds odd but is very common it seems. So symptoms don't have to show up while your stressed. They can appear weeks or months later. Drink really didn't help him at all and he gave it up completely. Some councelling and a course of drugs sorted him out, plus he took up painting landscapes in his spare time which helps mellow him out. He still gets the odd bout of panic attack and tremours but it's very rare and mild now.
Stress can do all kinds of stuff. His doctor has known of people who get rashes, spots, shivers, headaches, digestive troubles, hair loss etc etc the list is endless. Good news is stress can be dealt with fairly effectively once its been diagnosed properly
Well, for those that are interested... it is getting worse and the doc is a blabbering idiot with no action and weeks between sessions :sideways: So, I am with another doctor now, in the same building, and he has some ideas at least. I am sheduled for some measuring tests next week, I hope they provide some answers. Luckily I had the shakes last time at the doc and he had the chance to check me out during.
Can stress increase the blood pressure or is it some physiological reason?
Stress is a killer mate, it can raise BP and pretty much do anything.
Have you tried going alcohol and caffeine free?
Do you get a high tempreture too?
whilst on holiday I had a hardcore night on the brandy I woke up qat 6am with uncontrollable shakes and a very high temp.
Thankfully it went away after about 2 hours and hasnt happened since touch would.
Think it could of been something I ate though.
Hope it all gets sorted for you soon mate.
Keep me posted m8!
As usual, sorry to hear, can't say anything else unfortunatly...

I get the shakes when waking up after a long night out drinking heavily, not sleeping can do it on its own as well, too much pepsi as well yes, etc. but this does not relate to those shakes. This comes and goes as it sees fit. Either on top of the other shakes, or on its own. Temperature, hm, no... don't think so? Cheers for idea though.
My BP is apparently a wee bit high. I thought it wouldn't be since my physical condition is quite okay, I have a resting pulse when waking up about 50bpm, but apparently the bpm has nothing to do with that. The last two checks on the pressure has been 150 over 95, whatever that means...
Quote from: delanvital;206877The last two checks on the pressure has been 150 over 95, whatever that means...
As someone whose blood pressure that has to be controlled, I can tell you that 150 over 95 is high for someone of your age, weight (you still the same as when I last saw you?) and level of fitness. I would have thought 120 over 80 would be the norm. Didn't your doctor comment on it?

If anything I am in better physical shape than last time you and I met. A bit smaller/lighter though.
That he did. Monday morning I will pick up a portable meter at the doc which I have to wear for 24 hours and tuesday we will see how the BP has been in that period.
Some friends say 129/60 should be suitable for me (?) Apparently it is 100+ age for the first number, that is when your heart squeezes blood out into the body. So I should be 129. 80 for the other number is even too high apparently. Hm... Means I have the BP of an average 45-50-year old :(
