Title: Hosting Change & Maintenance Info
Post by: TeaLeaf on August 14, 2007, 10:44:24 AM
As of yesterday dMw moved its hardware from the Hi-Velocity racks in IP House to our new host's racks in Telehouse North (Docklands, London).  Our new hosts are Brightstar Associates.

Already a quick check seems to show a much better ping and a cleaner connection, so we are very hopeful that the new host will provide us with the quality, low latency bandwidth we have been seeking.

Not all in the move has been plain sailing however and we have just identified what we believe to be a hardware fault with the firewall.  A support call has been placed and we hope to have some resolution on this shortly.  However in the mean time until the firewall fault is resolved then when connected to the dMw servers you might notice some occasional dropouts.

Thank you all for your patience and we hope that we can return to our usual low-latency gaming imminently!

TL.

must be getting on for 2/3 years with Hi-V.

edit:

Heres a post from Dec 2004 where we first started to use Hi-V to supply broadband.

ive a question:
when i played on the servers here, the gameplay was a bit insufficient.
one or two month ago whitey helped me to change the "rates" (i still dont know what exactly ive done). well, i changed them for example from 3500 to 10000.
this was a great improvement,
but unfotunately espacially for the others because before ive made the change, it was very hard for them to hit me, but now...
however, now that the server has a new host, or a different connection, is it necessary to change those rates again, in order to re-adjust them to the new connection?

Broadbly speaking you should just to be able to leave them alone.

 Yes, he did.

I've been having problems on Boomer with Voice comms; whenever someone uses them, I get really bad lag, and it gets worse when more people use it, and is horrid if I use it. Any idea what could cause this?

EDIT: This doesn't happen on any other servers, although haven't tried it on MH or Baldric so far.

With Rates you set it to your connection speed, so no matter what server you're on it should be fine.
If people find it hard to hit you then it's probably their rates that are causing it, so it's not your problem. (is it that bad if they can't hit you?)

I don't think they give us anything.
But we do have our own ways of funding things around here.
I allways make a server donation and so at the LAN which will end up on the Community bankaccount (I hope :coolio:...).

Well what's that supposed to mean

The LAN accounts are totally transparent and I'm not sure I like your intimations.

Let's hope it was a simple case of 'missing smilie'. This one I reckon:

Yep, as said over PM; I didn't have time to add a smilie as my boss was back. Didn't have time to add 1. So; Sorry.
No need to overreact as some might say though.

No problem.

I demand DuVeL engages in several sessions of self-flagellation in recompense for such a slanderous accusation and furthermore said sessions should be posted up on YouTube as both verification and for the personal gratification for Benny.

PS. I may well have overacted but without any sort of emoticon it *could* well be taken seriously and literally. I'm sure he didn't mean it that way but it only takes one person to read it wrongly .....

Correct, the funny thing is that the people from Shuttle found it to destructive as I "blew up" the Shuttlebox. :roflmao:
It was for a competition on what you would do to get the newest Shuttle.
Ahwell, I had fun reading the comments from the people from Shuttle.
