anyone here ever used it before? I have use of it at the moment and thought I might try some modelling for a map, but I'm having trouble creating something thats turns into a proper .mdl file.
I think the problem is that the objects (or vertices of...) I have created aren't connected to a "bone" when I export to .smd because all I ever see in milkshape when I import it again is the bone but not the objects. A simple "this is how you connect something to a bone in 3dmax" would be appreciated. Most tutorials are massively complex and usually dwell on lots of the how to make that rectangular prism look cool type stuff. If there was a simple tutorial somewhere that showed you how to make a model of a single static object (box/sphere/cylinder) that would be really cool.
cheers.
no-one at all?
I got to about this stage with it... :furious: ...and will wait a few before I try again or I will break something
I think I have.............No wait a minute, I haven't. Sorry. :(

lol ive got like 2 programs to make maps really havent got into em um you want to try em ill try and get the dl areas for em if you want
:)
so far I have the hammer editor for quake2/halflife style mapping, milkshape and 3dmax for modelling. Milkshape it the modelling program that appeared just for halflife although it has gotten more complex and is now shareware. I feel rather ill today.
What are these 2 programs you speak of? 8)
Right Mr C00blet, use milkshape, and take a butchers here:

Making a model for Half-Life by Rat tutorial should sort you out... :D
ive used 3DS max extensively and to be honest i wouldn't bother, i think you'll come accross far to many errors. I.e. if you get errors in hammer i imagine you'll get triple the errors in max.
Linking a box to a bone is ismple a case of selecting the link button on the top nav and then click and drag the box to the bone.
You can even select the box, click the link button and then press shift H which should bring up the selection box displaying all the model object in your scene for you to apply the link to.
started working through the tutorials last night and I think I'm getting the hang of it. even managed to convert a 3dmax model into a halflife one (although I need to find a qc compiler other than milkshape in 8 days
check it out

The plane I made following a tutorial. Then I smoothed it a little before animating a camera around it. 3dmax is rather nifty :D
wow a plane no its a computer generated model
:P
and it is now NEW AND IMPROVED!

rah!
Can't be both NEW *and* IMPROVED>
Leave him alone Oldie, it was so realistic I ducked as it flew towards me and fell out the chair. So S-M you can look forward to hearing from my lawyers for damages.
Its a new version. It's an improvement on the old version. New and Improved. The new ferrari f1 car is an improvement on the old one is it not? :D
