Title: Autoruns
Post by: RizZy on September 08, 2007, 07:41:06 AM
Alright guys, dunno if this has been posted before - I couldn't find it in a search.

QuoteIntroduction

This utility, which has the most comprehensive knowledge of auto-starting locations of any startup monitor, shows you what programs are configured to run during system bootup or login, and shows you the entries in the order Windows processes them. These programs include ones in your startup folder, Run, RunOnce, and other Registry keys. You can configure Autoruns to show other locations, including Explorer shell extensions, toolbars, browser helper objects, Winlogon notifications, auto-start services, and much more. Autoruns goes way beyond the MSConfig utility bundled with Windows Me and XP.

Some of you might find it interesting, I know you like having a play around.

Title: autoruns (a free tool from Microsoft)
Post by: Jabbs on March 16, 2009, 07:41:24 PM
Ok, as many of you know, loading up the 'Microsoft Configuration' tool by going to Run and typing in msconfig and hitting enter brings up a useful tool where you can see what programs are loading up at start up and disable any problem entries.

There is a another free tool which gives a lot more info and it's called autoruns.

Follow the link below to read and download the tool.  Basically as well as showing what's loading at start up it also shows the order in which windows process the entries and also other relevant stuff to the starting of a pc such as registry entries relevant to Windows Explorer (for instance).

Anyway, I found it useful solving a Vista black screen and just the mouse cursor showing problem - hope you get some use from it too :)

Cool, didn't see that one.

You can download the whole sysinternals suite from this link too.  Sysinternals do some nice utilities :)

I've used Autoruns, nice little program, bit I stick by Scottie the WinPatrol  (http://www.winpatrol.com/)pooch. (From BillP Studios), no pop-ups, no ads, no toolbars.

Tells you everything you need to know about your autoruns, processes, services, browser helpers etc. Its not intrusive (has a very quick learning curve), warns you on various things like, when a newly installed program wants to jump into your startup menu it gives you the option to allow or deny. Warns when your homepage is being changed etc. He's a good little friend and sits in the taskbar patrolling all the time, takes just 1% of resources.
