Recommended are the guides to pet talents; the pet talent calculator, the guide to gearing up, insidghts into the builds...
 
For example: I'm noting a bit push on the utility of survival - you lose dps, you lose crit chance, but you come with a hell of a lot more crowd control, can have two traps active with readiness, improved wingclip, and expose weakness for other group members to exploit.
 
Must say I'm tempted!

SV hunters need to come to the party with in excess of 800 Agi and 25% crit to make it worthwhile.  Then the expose weakness buff becomes valuable.  I'd also argue that SV hunters gain crit, not lose crit, due to the fact that will stack Agi gems and enchants everywhere compared to a BM or even a MM hunter who would be willing to take more AP.  BM & MM tend to have Savagery enchanted on their weapon, SV tend to have +35 Agi.
