Title: Hibernate in CB?
Post by: OldBloke on June 10, 2003, 10:52:54 AM
A simple majority vote to decide if we should go into hibernation in the CB ladder.

We have one more confirmed match in CB (BOIS). I have cancelled our two outgoing challenges.

I've voted YES on the grounds that we can either use ED for all matches or investigate the Jolt Ladder.

OK. That's fairly conclusive.

Immediately after the BOIS game on Thursday we'll put the clan into CB Hibernation.

I'm off to look at Jolt.

First impressions are not too good.  The highlights go something like this:

- They run 4 ladders: 5v5, a temporary 5v5 Prize, a 2v2 and a 5v5 Pistols Only ladder.
- Clans cannot have more than 20 members.
- There are 26 clans (including us) in the 5v5 ladder; 10 in the 5v5 Prize; 64 in the 2v2 ladder; 18 in the 5v5 Pistols Only ladder.
- The most active appropriate ladder is the 5v5 standard ladder.  In this ladder:
- 8 of the other 25 clans are inactive.
- 3 of the other 25 clans have never played a match.
- Only 14 clans have played matches since March 2003 when the ladder launched.
- The most matches played by any Clan is 10.
- Ladder rules seem to make turning down a challenge very difficult, i.e. there is nowhere in the rules that I can find that says you can decline at all.
- You can reschedule a challenge, but it must be played within 14 days of the original challenge.
- Generally low activity, therefore excpetionally difficult to judge quality of clans.  Very few names recognisable.

My 2 cents:  We could give it a go, but we would have to restrict it to 20 members which I do nto think is very fair as we have a little over that in terms of active members, so it might be a PITA.  It might be worth thinking about putting in a short term elite squad to compete, or using the pistols only ladder to do something different, but you'd have to do it with an 'I couldn't give a toss about an inactivity or no show results' attitude.

The rules are below.

TL.  8)

***********Ladder Rules*********************
» Non-Scheduled Matches are not allowed.
» Challenging is allowed.
» A team must have at least 5 members before playing matches.
» Teams can have up to 20 members.
» A match can consist of 1 to 1 rounds.
» For every 7 days you do not play a match you will be dropped 1 ranks.
If you continue to stay inactive for 28 days your team will be deleted.
This is to keep inactive players from clogging the ranks.
***********End Ladder Rules*****************

***********Challenge Rules******************
» Challenging is allowed.
» You can challenge teams up to 5 ranks above your team if they are free for challenging.
» A team has 48 hours to repsond to your challenge.
» A challenged team must then respond to your challenge selecting 3 time/dates and 1 maps.
» The earliest a match can be scheduled for is 12 hours after the latest finalizing time.
» The latest a match can be scheduled for is 7 days after the the latest finalizing time.
» Match times can be between 12 am and 11 pm GMT.
» You must then finalize the challenge within 48 hours of the challenged team accepting.
You will then need to select 1 of the maps and one of the times to have the match.
» The maps you pick must be played in the order the challenged team selected them.
If for some reason a match goes beyond the maps selected before the match ends the team who is winning will select the next map and then alternate.
» The match must be played at the final selected time by the challenger.
» If a team does not show up 10 minutes after the match is to start it is considered a forfeit to the non-showing team.
make sure to save a record of having the match either by screenshots or icq conversation logs, as you will be contacted via email by an admin if you are acccused of forfeiting.
If you cannot prove you played the accusing team you they will be awarded the match and you will be givin a forfeit to your record.
*************End Challenge Rules***************

Lets just stick to ED solely.

Thanks for doing that TL. That's what I found when I looked into it this evening so I wanted a second opinion.

I was prepared to put the low clan numbers down to the ladder having only launched in March but everything else is wooly.

QuoteLets just stick to ED solely.

Anyone disagree?

I think for the moment we could probably survive quite happily with ED and PCWs.  As Nike said, just do it!  As an aside, if I can't fix this keyboard/mouse problem soon, I won;t be doing any CS at all.  And even if I get that fixed I still have to figure out how to play through the avensys servers that provide a courtesy 1000+ ping for me each time I connect at the moment

The longer these woes continue, the more attractive that option becomes     The ironic thing is that I moved my ISP (from BTinternet) and now have a better connection speed than I used to from my home right up until I get to the avensys network  :(   The last 6 hops for me are via avensys and that is totally borking my ping with intermittent 1000+ spikes.  The sooner Crosswired dump avensys the better......... (/me crosses fingers that the new provider WILL in fact replace avensys)

When I had a look at the Jolt ladder a few weeks ago I came to a similar conclusion about the rules, lack of activity and also noticed a few teams are up at the top and rarely lose. I think that ladder would be all but impossible for us to compete in unless we did a first team style entry. I've heard from a few other CS players that it is turning into a playground for l33t clans or cheats.  :?

I used to hate ED but since our move down a division it has been a great place to play and their website is the only one I have experimented with so far. I'm happy going with the crowd and hibernating on CB for a bit.
