Reminds me once when I went out in a club close by (Lucky as Luminance knows it).
They give people stamps if they are old enough to get the stronger alcoholic beverages. I had the coins for paying in my hand with the stamp on it. The girl behind the bar couldn't see it but she asked if I was old enough to get the more alcoholic beverages. The other guy at the bar who knows me from the previous club (the club moved buildings a few years back) started laughing out loud and told her that I was standing longer behind the bar then she was.
Got to admit that it was a really nice girl and she even gave me a few free drinks afterwards...:norty:
I might be a bit on my own here, but... I actually think it is okay. The point is not that it is obvious. But asking everyone pr. reflex is better than singeling out people that look underage and asking them. Knowing that you have to show ID regardless of age removes the temptation from youngsters to try and buy the liquor anyway (as mentioned) and also if the next guy in line with booze looks really young, but might be older, you save him (and the person at the register) the embarassement of asking because you are in doubt. Instead the person is now asking because everyone with a bottle has to show id...

I could get beer at the "super de boer" (supermarket) while i was 14, but on my freaking 16th birthday they asked for my ID, and i didn't had it on me.
I was stunned actually, and bit ****ed, ofcourse afterwards i still laugh about it.
I did got it though, after going back to home and getting the id. Since that day i always have it on me, especially now your obligated to have it on you.
back on topic:
I think its stupid, if i remember corectly the store owners/employees, are obligated to ask kids for a ID or if there is reasonal doubt that someone is under age. That doesn't include asking everybody.
in there defense: The man does look a bit youthfull to me :rolleyes:

But you have to confirm you're 13, if I remember correctly, when registering here, regardless of whether we know someone is a certain age? But that is not the point I raised anyway.
Seems like I'm very much alone on this one :) ...and a bit puzzled you people can get so frustrated over it? I really wouldn't mind a bit giving the shop and the person at the register the comfort of showing my ID when buying alcohol... not that much check is ever done over here anyway :eyebrow:
Edit: I must admit, never having been asked my ID ever, I would show it when being asked and just find it quite amusing :)
It's called idiocy. The rules are meant to catch the young and it is insulting to ask someone so obviously over that age for ID.
It's called 'Jobsworth' in the UK. Enforcing rules blindly without any application commonsense. The shop's rules were there to catch underage people trying to buy alcholol. Now the shop can either train it's people properly to enforce a sensible policy, or they can cater to the lowest common denominator and apply a rule aimed at one customer type to all customers, even those to whom it plainly does not apply.

Okay, if I walked into a shop and tryed to buy alcohol that would be perfectly reasonable, but... They must just love annoying people, in the hope they wont get any customers I guess..

It's obvious that although you have to be 21 to buy alcohol at that supermarket, 21 is also the required IQ level to work there.
