Title: TL calls Time Out....
Post by: TeaLeaf on June 13, 2003, 09:43:40 PM
Until I get this mouse/keyboard/wierd laggy shit sorted on my computer I am going to have to temporarily remove myself from being available for matches.  :(   I am OK when I first join, but then after a couple of minutes (it varies) I get a combination of (a) lack of mouse response and (B) something that I can only describe as movement overshoot (you lift your finger off the key and half a second later you stop moving) or no response at all from the keyboard.

I am beginning to wonder if it is a connection problem, but netgraph3 doesn't seem to be showing any problems when the above occurs.  I just wish I knew what it was  :?

OB suggested a CS reinstall, so I might get around to that, trouble is if I do a reinstall I will be tempted to do a total system reinstall and that will need a whole weekend to do all of that with the amount of software I run.

At least next week I can check it is not the computer itself as my KVM switch should arrive from the US.

Until then I'll just keep entertaining myself by using that razor to slice the skin between my toes open and then pour on a little tabasco sauce.....
I hate when that happens.....  :D

Two things to try ...

1. Make sure that Internet Explorer isn't running when you play CS. I don't know why but when I leave IE running it messes with my mouse movements BIGTIME.

2. Make sure you connect to the MH/Baldric/CS using shortcuts that contain the following mouse related parameters :

-noforcemparms -noforcemaccel

HTH

If not, what have you changed recently (if anything) that might have caused the problem?

Sort this soon Big Man. We need you.

I always connect via HLSW, so I take it I can add those to my config file?

Sounds like a nightmare TL. I recall Sadako having the same type of problem at the LAN when he was setting up your PC with his mouse. It was a rate issue as the PC was set to a very low rate and he kept stopping moving but the response on screen was always 2 seconds behind.

I find after a few months of continually changing settings something has to give and the game act weird. The CS reinstall would set all that stuff back to normal and maybe make the game more stable  :?

I am coming to that conclusion.  I have added the above commands to the shortcut, I have found a link suggesting the firewall (but to no avail - it happens with or without firewall enabled), I found another link to a Windows 2K mouse control (I use XP).  Nothing seems to work, it is just so maddening - I can be playing fine one second and then without any warning the mouse and keyboard controls go fubar on me.  I was playing cs_thunder last night on MH and having a cracking time (my score was something like 14-5 I think) and then the problem kicked in.  IN no time at all I am 14-14 and getting kinda bored of playing CS - it kinda puts you right off.

So it look like I am going to have to go for the big reinstall of everything (not just CS) and upgrade from XPHE to XPPro.  I just need to find the time, maybe next weekend if my KVM switch arrives during this week......

KVM switch not yet arrived.
Upgraded to XP Pro.
Added some parameters to the games shortvut.
Still can't hit shit.
Next is the CS reinstall.
Wish me luck.

But I have used the spare time to get somewhat incvolved again with the booking of clan wars  :D

When/If you will reinstall make a backup of the clean installed CS directory and save it on your media of preference. I do that and when my CS goes bananas after some months I just boot up the old copy. Works very well actually.

Thanks Sadako, I will do.  The copy I have at the moment is not of a totally fresh install, but if I do a reinstall that will be one of the first things I do.  As a 'last-ish resort' I have got my ISP telcos looking at pingplotter logs to work out if it is them (but I am not convinced it is).

I reckon I will have time to do a reinstall of HL/CS this coming weekend.  If that doesn't work then it will be a case of creating a catalogue of the software currently on my machine and then finding all the software media, then plucking up the courage to go do the total reformat of the c: drive  :(

Just can't wait to get back to some 'normal' PCS......

Well I played on MH last night and fingers crossed, I did not have any of the major lock ups that I was having - a few minor spikes yes, but nothing like the stuff that was making CS unplayable for me.  So I will start adding the buy scripts, rcon scripts, CSRU etc etc.  (I had forgotten how bad the original sounds and models were  8O ).

Its too early to give me the all-clear, but it looks encouraging........  :D
