Bah 1:33...he had probably too cold fuel...FIA is investigating the issue
:narnar:
About the long race. I think it's same for me. It is already hard enough making 11 laps without mistakes. Doing 4 times that amount...

Welcome to my world. :) So that's one vote for 40 laps then. :D

Is it? I thought I gave an empty vote
(nah...my voting ballot must have ended in the same place with the lunch coupons)
1 hour for me
1 hour. God help me.
If there are no objections then, one hour it is and may the Lord have mercy upon your soul. :norty:

Unused votes revert to the management. :)
Unfortunately, as you didn't use the vouchers before the expiry date they have become void anyway. Best go to McDonalds. They do a nice Chicken McNuggets so I hear. :)
One hour please (prostate not withstanding:crying:)
I'm a little concerned that this combo seems to attract numpties and plonkers which spoil races for the majority of drivers. I know it's a bit late but any ideas how we can filter the field? I probably wont sleep tonight worrying about it. This combo has all the makings of a great race but I dread it being ruined by etc. etc.
Ideas on a postcard please.
I must add that I haven't seen any deliberate wrecking, but there are a lot of chaps joining that have no control over this beast.
I don't know if you can filter them out if you have a public server and all are welcome. Usually you learn somebody is hazard only when the bad thing has already happened.
I have found the changing wind conditions are tricky especially with this car. Fast car travels in the same time much longer distance than slower and this doesn't even have brake lights. I doesn't help you much if you learned the brake points in qualifying if the wind is blowing from a different direction in race. Partly that's why you see so much spins and etc at the first lap. It would be bit easier if there wasn't wind tomorrow.
That doesn't completely remove the problem but might make it slightly less hard. :g:
If that doesn't thelp, you could ban all keyboard and mouse users :g:
Make the server private at 8:30. Everyone we want to be there will either already be on or knows the password.
Privatise server at 8:30 :thumbsup2:
Turn wind off. :g: Personally, I'm constitutionally against no wind. But ok, let's try it. My view though, is running into the back of someone because they're in your breaking zone is not good practice. Also the wind in LFS is a constant in any given race/qualifying session so it ought to be only a couple of laps (for you aces) to decide where new braking points are.
Would be great to discuss this in a bar over a few beers. :D
EDIT: Ban keyboarders and mousers eh? /me strokes beard
I think the wind is good too... usually.
It's just that this car is all the time so on limit that you really do not need much to lose it.
No, it's not good to run to someone's arse. But note that this is the 2nd fastest car in LFS and one of the best braking cars too. When the dude in front you presses on the brakes and you are not prepared, collision is quite propable. If the wind is not well known and the braking places are not found yet, people will brake in bit different places and crashes and spins happen.
It seems the wind is NOT constant during a race or qualifying (or practise). At least it changes direction (maybe circa +-45 degrees, so if the wind is W, it changes between SW and NW). I'm not sure if the wind speed changes. To notice the wind direction change, do some 'doughnuts' so that the tyres get very hot. Stop the car and observe how the smoke from the tyres change direction (flags are not so easy to use as they wave).
About the privatization...ok, but I'm not sure how many of the non members know them.

I think you made my point for me. :)
im cool for anything as my braking places are the same all the time, i dont notice the wind
All my worries about having a field full of turnips came to nothing in the end. Apart from one small glitch from yours truly who forgot to put in '1 hour' command, the race got off to a fine start. At least I don't recall hearing too many cries of anguish except that of Deetz who somehow found himself at the back of the grid! Nevertheless, he ran a spirited race and despite having to pass me 3 times on account of some mishap or other, ended up with the winner's garland round his neck.(They don't do that anymore do they?) For myself, I ran a steady race, kept out of trouble and just had 5th place nicked from under my nose by OldBloke
Bloody nose nicker!
Well done delanvital for completing the race despite saying "I'm only here for a bit of practice" and well done to anyone else that ended up behind me.
Oh, commiserations to Vobler who hadn't paid his internet bill and got disconnected
Good job everybody finishing. I can't remember seeing delanvital before...he did very well.
Yes, the race was very good. I felt that the no wind options helped to adjust the brake points and eased the driving in general. Not that it would have been too easy anyway.
I cannot remember that there had happened so much in the first half. After I pitted I dropped down to the 3 place from the 2nd place where I had been for a short time. Altrezia had just managed to get past me while I was rolling out of pit.
I started to chase Altrezia and I felt I was slowly getting after him, but then at lap 30 my mouse got one of those 'fits' and my car made sudden turn left and dived into the pit wall.
My first thought was 'ok, here was my race'. I checked the damage and I noticed the left side suspension arms had bended. I decided to try drive the car anyway. Altrezia had managed to get too far and it was questionable if I was even able to finish. I drove the first lap slower and noticed the front left tyre camber was basicly negated - it was eating the outside edge heavily. Every right turn I had to try take slower for not to blow the tyre. I had 2 choises: Go to pit and fix it or try to limp the final 7-8 laps. As I noticed Romus wasn't so far behind me, I decided to try make it without a pit stop.
I don't know when Romus noticed that he was getting closer, but it was soon getting worrying if I was able to keep my 3rd place. Romus was clocking steady 1:36 laps and my lap times had gone down 1.5 secs. Even I was able to finish 3rd it was quite close as in the end Romus was only 2.4 secs behind.

I did something stupid in the lap 17 and fell about 15-20 seconds behind Aquilifer. I thought that the 4th position would be mine no matter what I did, so I was going to drive 1:47´s till the finish. Then I however got one 1:46 and at about the same time saw something going wrong with Aquilifer, so I got a new start for my race. Last 10 laps were my best ever online, so I'm actually very happy for the race, even though with better fighting I could have been on the podium.
I'm getting a feeling that soon (soon can mean a few months already at this age) I will be able to compete all through the race. Now I'm trying to finish the race and gather some experience. I still make some novice mistakes, like have accidentally >5% for tyre changes in pit settings or something else that stupid.
I would still like to comment this combo a bit. At first it was frightening, I was literally shaking after about the first 20 laps, it was so exciting to fly through corners. Then with more experience it was already boring, too much downforce and grip, and the track felt too clean. I hope that future releases would make the track surface more lively.
