Just wondering what you guys thought about gaming today and the whole single/multi player modes

Personally I find it difficult to immerse myself in single player games and find they have to be something really special to hold my attention I can only really think of Oblivion, halflife2and Football Manager that have done that in recent years and hyped games like Bioshock and Stalker left me wanting more. I cant even stay on EP1 long enough before hoppin on a server somewhere.

Whereas multiplayer seems to keep me hooked e.g. the premise of counter strike is so simple but no 2 rounds are ever the same + the banter of human players plus mini challenges like trying frag the person who has got behind and knifed you 5 times lol! gives me so much more.

What do you guys think?

I agree. I find it quite hard to play on a single player game.

Although, I must say, Portal had me Hooked. Hope they make a new one.

Generally I prefer to play/chat online, rather than on a single player game.

it all depends on the game. Some are great SP but poor MP and others can be the opposite.

As BB stated, it depends on the game.
In every multiplayergame I play I try and find a server which goes for teamwork and objective.
Last Sunday I had several games of TF2 but there's loads of numpties out there...

Singleplayer;
Oblivion I've played alot, really like this game. Stalker is somewhere on my desk...Now playing HL2-Ep.2, all previous are finished and I'm not sure if I'll start them up again.

Multiplayer; CounterStrike, CounterStrike CZ, CounterStrike Source, Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142 and as said currently trying TF2 alot (trying to figure out what to do and so but with alot of numpties out there so not really succeeding).

single player are nice occasionally as you can pause them and play at your leisure, when you have waiter on 2 young kids this is a big plus

Multiplayer...or basically WOW. Some TF2 but that's about it. The only single player game I play with any regularity are Medieval 2 and Company of Heroes.

I've played a few single players over the last few years mainly Bioshock, Tomb raiders and re-visits to Deus Ex. But from buying a new game every month pre Feb 2005 I now am lucky to buy three a year.

Some pundits have accused WOW of dragging millions of regular PC game buyers out of the market and for me that's very true.

Generally I prefer multi player, at the moment its CSS, but I use to play WoW. I don't play many single player games, I tend to get bored after a couple of hours, but a good story/novel puzzles will keep me going.

Ive been playing CS since about 2001 (CS 1.3 I think) and its the only game thats stayed with me, although i have taken long breaks due to leaving Uni and moving houses etc, oh and when CSS first came out it was shocking (in a bad way).

It was the same for me as well, there was no time for any other game. But I've been clean for about 4 months now and it feels good :D. Plus, its easier to stop CSS mid game and go spectate, but its harder when you in the middle of a WoW Instance to pause it for half an hour.

I only tend to play any sort of games when I'm supposed to be working or haven't got the money to go out in the evening. Which these days seems to be quite a lot...

I play singleplayer games... but the big problem is when i finished the game after a few hours the change is very high that i never play it again.

There are 2/3 games that i can play over and over again but for the rest they end up somewhere in the room...

But i play alot of WoW and a few games of cs...
