Title: Sign-up pages for new members
Post by: Gandalf on June 26, 2003, 01:11:35 PM
AAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

there, feel better now.

Sorry I couldn't get it up last weekend but the user authing was causing me no end of grief! Found a nice little script on the web that does it for me though :)

Anyway, rc1 is now live. Check it out below.

http://www.greenberry.co.uk/signup/ (http://www.greenberry.co.uk/signup/)

it aint pretty (kinda like you smite   j/k, we luv u really) but it should do what we want it to.

Please play and pick any holes in it.

If you want to access the db stryker for the plugin you have, then mail me. Oh and as I don't have an internet connection at home right now, any development on this will be done in lunch at work.

for rc2 I'd like it beautified so if our wonderful webmaster chap would like to come up with a design so it fits into the deadmen homepage, please mail me the code.

Looks fine to me, but I would suggest that we add some info to prompt muppets as to how to find their WONID and why we are asking them to put a password in etc........

Want to add the pretty bits and explanation crap with that. TBH I can't write for $hit so it's probably better if someone else comes up with that stuff!

THe first bits seem to work fine.  You can log in and change details and save them etc.  At the end of that process you get to another log in screen.

At that point if you log in again to check that the amended details have been properly saved you go to a screen that tells you that you are already logged in, but there are no other buttons other than log out!  Even clicking on the log out button brings you back to the log in screen and round you go again.

Me thinks we need a link back to the front page etc.....

well, it should be a link back to the main dmw site.

I'll add that in a bit. tbh, once you've signed up you should only ever need to login to change details if either you've changed your e-mail or player tag.

Maybe won ID if you've brought a new HL cd.

anyway, keep picking holes :)

I guess that once we get the e-mail sending sorted (that bit is easy, we just need a nicely worded e-mail) we should have the option to re-send the e-mail incase they loose the original.

ok, so there are a couple of things needed.

1. How to get your wonid
2. A nicely worded 'welcome' e-mail

who's gonna give them a go?

ok, found a bug where if you change your details then logout and log back in again it wipes out your info!

fixed by not allowing you to login immediatly after logging out. There is a link to take you back to the correct login page.

anyway, I'm off home now. That's it for today.

Text for the page:

Q: What is your WonID?
A: If you bring down your console (bound to the "~" by default)  while playing online and write "status" you should get something like this.

The second set of number (401535 in the image) in the marked in line is the WonID. Find your name and write down your WonID.

Q: Is my User Name linked to the forums also?
A: No the User Name is only used for logging on to this page if you need to change your e-mail adress or Player Tag. If you want a forum accout you have to create it separately.

Q: Why do you want my e-mail adress?
A: We change the password from time to time on our servers and the new password is distributed to you by e-mail. You can also get information about events as tournaments, LANs, Map Tests that Deadmen Walking holds.

cool, as soon as I get a working internet connection I'll implement the changes.

Now I just need Stryker to let me know what the deal is with the server side software.

Just a silly thing (as I am keeping my head down as I forgot to do any writing), but can we not do a screenshot of Homer rather than a nother server?  We could always keep the status bit but cut'n'paste the top half from homer or balders?

ok, text added.

is it worth opening testing up to the rest of the clan? I'd like as many people to play around/try to break it as possible. If you chaps agree then feel free to move this to private announcements or something similar. Perhaps make a private development folder?

That way we should get any bugs that appear out before making this system live.

I've also added an e-mail routine. Please test this. The mail is below. (Obviously there is no server password in it yet!)

QuoteHi $username,

Thank you for signing up to play Counter-Strike PCS. You will find the server connection details below. Do not loose them!

>From time to time we will issue a new server password. Please make sure that you keep us aware of your current e-mail address. You can login at //www.greenberry.co.uk/signup/existing.php to check your details.

Remember, have fun!

-=[dMw]=-

Primary Server details: -=[dMw]=- Meat Hook PCS 1.5 Server - 193.110.88.20:27015
Secondary Server details: -=[dMw]=- Baldric PCS 1.5 - 193.110.88.20:27016
Server Passwords: ****

At the moment the server details and password are hardcoded into the e-mail text, however we could create another database that stores this info. May make it easier to change passwords and server addresses. Stryker, what do you think?

Finally, when logging in to change your details, the page is a bit lacking in text. Can someone make any suggestions as to what should go there? I'm not too hot on explaining things! Don't forget that this will be integrated into the main site, so the side menu and top header will be inplace. (that's gonna be another task! Making sure that the auth works when it's integrated into the main site)

That's all I can think of at the mo. More to come as the suggestions roll in.

Suggestions:

(1) Maybe we should say that Player Tags that contain inappropriate language isn't allowed?

(2) If you want to change your password?

(3) Once logged in you could have a button with "Send me the latest password" that sends you the standard e-mail below. What do you think?
Then you can help yourself if you have lost it. Could maybe even be on the login page just a little bit below ... or something.  :P

(4) Text for this page http://www.greenberry.co.uk/signup/existing.php (http://www.greenberry.co.uk/signup/existing.php)

Login to change your e-mail adress, player tag or WonID. Make sure that you have the same player tag when you log on to our servers as just WonID isn't enough.

Player Tags that are inappropriate in nature aren't welcomed on our servers.

1. Good point
2. At the moment this is not possible due to the way the authing works. However there is a lost password option. Maybe changing pw will be a future development.
3. Yep, easy to do.
4. OK, will add later.

Suggestion for new text:

QuoteSign up for Tactical Counter-Strike

Deadmen Walking have two TCS servers running, Meat Hook and Baldric. On both servers we have a few custom maps that are available for download on the Deadmen webpage.Watch out for new -=[dMw]=- Map Packs as they're released.

The form below allows you to sign-up to play on our server. Your e-mail address is required as the server login details will be sent to this address. Also required are your player tag and wonid as these will be checked against the sign-up database when you connect. If your names not down you're not coming in! The username and password can be anything you like. Just don't forget them as they'll be needed if you change e-mail address!

Before you sign up make sure you read the TCS guides. We do our best to help new players, but people who don't embrace the TCS spirit and rules will be kicked.

Welcome!

Then I think that the Q&A should be below the "sign up" part.
