put on the ribbons of shame..
Hiya
I have just patched to X 31 but now i only have the RACE setup for all cars. Is this normal or have i broke something.
When I look in dada folder there seems to be loads of sets in a folder - settings. But thers another one called setups with just the race sets in. I tryed copying them over but didnt work.
Any ideas
Cheers stu
Stoo: You haven't broke anything, with this patch the setups' naming conventions has been changed, now they just include the cars' 3 letter shortnames. Here you can find a nice little application, LFS setup renamer, programmed specifically for this problem, which will rename all your setups: http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=34784
Try this.
It was on the forum somewhere but seems to have disappeared.
Thanks for the help
used Iron's link and it works.

Still defaults to 5 laps on restart. :sideways:
X38 and after having a quiet word with Scawen, the defaulting to 5 laps bug has been sorted. It's now what you know, it's WHO you know. :flirty:
Regarding the switch from analogue to digital speedos in UFRs. (and every car upwards!) I had a word with Scawen to get him to change it back.
He told me to sod off!
Yeah Sod off :narnar:
No seriously I'm shocked at the idea to change to digital, I guess most race spec track cars actually have digital replacements fitted, maybe this is his thinking.
The trouble is the digital read out is not part of the dash, it floats which makes it unrealistic and thats a step backwards IMO, I don't like the digital look.
I think I'll stay on patch 31 so I don't loose the analogue display.
J
Lol, you take Lfs too seriously.
I like a digital speedo, a virtual one too.
Patch Y is in the wild! Server sorted. :D
Hah, the car I just bought has a dashboard like this: http://www.vectralcd.de/ersterTest.jpg and scawen removes the digital speedo from the road cars. o.O
Seriously, I used digital when I was a beginner in LFS, and used to glance at it at the apex. But then I read that you should drive by the feel, not by numbers on your dash like a robot, so I tried it, switched to analog, and didn't look back.
I used digital speedo for one reason really. That was for pit lane speed. If a car didn't have limiter it was easier to read your speed. Now I can't even see always where is the 80km/h mark in the speedo.
Also another situation was that if there was wind i checked from the speedo is my speed higher or lower in certain spots and guesssed the wind direction and speed from it. Then I tryed to adjust my brake points. That was useful at the first lap, but now I have to do it by feel and learn it the hard way.
Don't worry though. I understood the gtr interiors, and that includes xfr/ufr, are going to look better in the future patch so the bit odd analog rev counter + digital speedo is going to be fixed (hopefully digital/digital in big gtrs and analog/analog at least in ufr).

That's pretty much how it is for most of us I guess. Scawen has made the numbers bigger on the analogue dials but all it needed was a pitlane 'redline' painted on the dial. Anyway, it's done so I reckon we just get on with it.
Have you noticed how very basic the UFR cockpits are now? Roll cages have lost their detail etc. The updated cockpits better arrive soon or I won't send them their lunch vouchers!

They are better, but on some cars like FXO they are too big and IIRC 40km/h between each marker so too far each other. Then in RAC the speedo is so small that in my screen size and resolution I couldn't see what numbers there were. I had to guess where the 80km/h marker is and then memorise it for the pit stops :(

Can't remember how they looked before. It's been while I drove UFR and I don't even have the hires pack now because it isn't compatible I guess. Without the hires pack everything looks bit...plain.
Yeah a pitspeed indication on the speedo would be good. I have switched to digital since I have had enough of guessing how fast i was going.

The situation is now this: In ALL cars with treaded tyres the speedo is analogue, take it or leav..... well, just take it actually. On every car with slicks from the UFR upwards it's digital speedos like it or not. As I understand it, that isn't going to change.

Yeah well, so far letting people set their own level of realism has been working well, as long as you could server-enforce them if some setting suited one group more than others. I wonder why that is not a suitable solution..

Thanks. I already had the Y13, but this is better now with ingame AA settings too. This is especially useful if you have NVidia card with 169.21 drivers (where the game profiles are bugged).
Out of curiosity...What ever AF settings I put I see absolutely no effect in fps (but I do see the effect in picture quality). If I change AA, setting none-4x has no effect, but 8x finally shows some effect lowering it. I wonder if you see same sort of "no effect in fps with AF thing"? I have seen the same in Arma too...it seems it is best just to put it max :g:

The news is ...
QuoteHello LFS Racers.
I'd just like to make a small announcement about some updates in a test patch that is planned for release today, and also a few words about progress and future updates.
Today's test patch will include updated interiors for the XF and XR (GTR and road) cars.
These caused some hotlaps to go out of sync due to things like the driver being in a slightly different position, so we took the opportunity to move (and lower) the centre of gravity of all the GTR cars and the XRT and RB4 to improve handling and hopefully improve class balancing. The XRT and RB4 have also had some small improvements to the rear suspension that make them nicer to drive. When Patch Z is released, the existing hotlaps for eight of the cars (XFG / UFR / XFR / XRT / RB4 / XRR / FXR / FZR) will need to be deleted.
While most people will be happy to see these improvements, we predict that some will be disappointed that the other GTR cars are not yet done. But don't worry, the FZ updates are near complete and we are keen to get that released along with the FXO updates as soon as possible - but not in time for Patch Z which will look very much like today's test patch and should be released next week.
The remaining GTR updates are part of the needed updates for LFS S2 to lose the ALPHA tag. Some other updates that should mostly be done to get out of ALPHA are :
- Improve collision physics
- Break off wings instead of bending
- Finish and release Westhill updates
- Improve track shadow rendering
- RB4 / UF1 / UFR interiors
I've noticed some discontent about the rate of progress and all I can do is assure you that no-one wants LFS out of ALPHA more than we do! Of course, by updating and releasing the clearly unfinished things mentioned here.
EDIT : The new version is incompatible and I'll release a dedicated host in advance of the test patch.
Well that's it, I hope you enjoy today's test patch. There are plenty more improvements to come!
This will need a new host file so please update asap as I'm sure we will be running this latest patch as soon as it's released.
Server patched to Y30

FIX : Changing gear shift type while driving made SPR go out of sync
However ...
Quote from: ScawenAbout the unlocking issue.
There is a bug where when it removes the old unlock, it leaves some of the unlocking files and doesn't notice they are out of date, so some things can just go wrong if you don't unlock cleanly from scratch.
I know some people are out of unlocks due to my mistake. But rather than sit here all morning giving out new unlocks, my plan is to fix this bug and release a test patch today which needs unlocking again, and I'll give everyone two unlocks at that point.
So worth holding some horses.

Intresting observations LFS Forum (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=1005928#post1005928)
Hmm... :g: So I guess it's an advantage to use the ABS in the XFG this week then? I haven't downloaded the test patch yet, don't know yet if I will. I've never done it before, but if you lot are going to have an advantage over me by enabling ABS... :)
Z4 appears to be OK. I havn't noticed any advantage in having ABS switched on but there again I dont notice many subtle changes
What is different is the vision-vibrating when you run along the corrugations at the edge of the track, most noticable on AS7 back straight - they have been removed not reduced and it makes it much easier to see the turn-in point.
Quote from: Lameduck;254794Z4 appears to be OK.
I've had many crashes with Z4 today. Z5 is out now.
Quote from: vobler;254798I've had many crashes with Z4 today. Z5 is out now.
I've had no problems with either patch but then I can't recall having problems with ANY patch so far. Are you trying to provoke crashes or is it just in the normal running of the game?
Quote from: Doorman;254806I've had no problems with either patch but then I can't recall having problems with ANY patch so far. Are you trying to provoke crashes or is it just in the normal running of the game?
Just normal running. But I have had two races online now in Z5 without problems. Seems to be sorted.
Hm.. I bet there's going to be split opinions on the ABS thing. Sure it might be more realistic since road cars normally have it, but still.. I'm not sure. Haven't had time to try it yet
I agree that road cars normally do have it, on the other hand:
1) did they have it in the 90s? The cars in LFS are about this old it seems.
2) race series would probably ban ABS - I hope the servers are allowed to chose wether to allow it or not, and taht it is displayed in the server choice screen.
3) I'm pretty sure it helps with the XFG on AS7, for the "high" speed downhill braking before the nasty right hander - I experienced ugly lockups there on Friday night leading to high speed crashes (when Jouman was running 2.32s leaving us all in the dust :)) and I am nearly sure the ABS will sadly remove this.
If we are to voice an opinion here, I would say no to ABS - except when using race_S sets.
If we are not, well... you did not read this.
Quote from: Mille Sabords;254864If we are to voice an opinion here, I would say no to ABS - except when using race_S sets.

I don't agree. One of the things that bugs me in LFS is that people can reduce the brake force so they in effect can run almost as they have ABS.
I cant see the big deal with ABS when adjustable brake force is still possible.
I think using high brake force with good technique still will be faster than ABS. But I also think most people will be fastest with ABS.
looks like we will have to wait a bit longer for the patch. Ahh well, better late than bugged. I did think that the time between the release and test patches was a bit too short.

________________
I just went through the thread announcing a delay, what a depressing read!
So many kids complaining it could even be funny...
I have done some further ABS testing and I kind of like it.
I do not use it as intended but I have found a use that helps improving my driving.
I increased the brake force in my set (from 620N to approx 750N) and using the F9 - tyres display I can easily see what goes wrong and when (the ABS triggers an orange color for the tyres).
This helps me achieving the following:
Find the correct amount of braking pressure for the different corners, at the threshold (just before the orange shows up, or only one tyre locking)
Find the correct brake balance - that should be even better with a RWD when using engine braking.
All this without locking up and crashing every other corner.
After a few laps with the ABS on I turned it off and was able to achieve the same (slow :)) lap times without major lockups and a better use of the brakes, at a much more realistic brake force.
So the ABS is for me a great learning tool, I can now imagine getting closer to threshold braking and using more of the traction circle. I am still in doubt whether it is a good thing for races or not, though.
interesting post mille :)
Not installed the new test patch yet but sounds like its worth a try :thumbsup2:
I agree with Mille. I've been using it as a learning tool, but not in quite the same way, but will give his idea a try. If I use the ABS during testing it lets me play with braking force/distances and gives me a small safety net if I get it slightly wrong, so less frustration for me. Doesn't protect me from the occasional bout of over optimistic driving/rank idiocy, but then what would? Not sure about its use in racing, driver aids seem cheating somehow...
Sad news about the delay of the Sirroco, but I would rather see it delivered later to the impressively high standard set by the developers, than early and not quite right.
lol @ Ron's post :roflmao:
I haven't tried the test patches yet, but I don't mind the idea of ABS if its supposed to be on the car. The question is, are the road cars in LFS race preped (as some discussion in the test patch forum might suggest) or are they straight from the show room? Myself, I reckon they are bog standard road cars. I'm guessing in a modern road car, like the VW, you cant turn off ABS for safety reasons. In that case I think it should be forced on for everyone, and it wouldn't bother me. About which (road)cars should have ABS, I think most of them are new enough to feature it. The road cars I didn't think would have it are the XRG and XRT, but according to scawen they would of had ABS, but the XFG (based on a seat Ibiza) would not and the UF1 of course :) .
Some clarification by Scawen:
QuoteI think it's fair enough to discuss ABS brakes as they are an important feature of this series of test patches.
One bug report was that the "Braking - GTI" lesson text is now quite wrong and inapproriate for a car with ABS brakes. I'm thinking the XF GTI should have its ABS removed, specially as the real car which it was loosely based on does not have ABS brakes, so it was a mistake fitting it with ABS in the first place.
However, the car that the XR GT was loosely based on does have ABS brakes so from that point of view it should be there in LFS. I thought that the XF GTI had a slight advantage, because if I visit a host with XFG and XRG, most people seem to be driving an XF GTI. So I was thinking that leaving ABS on the XR GT would be good for balancing. However, I am told the XR GT is usually faster and a quick look at the hotlap tables seems to agree that this is the case. So I'm not sure about the consequences of removing it from the XF GTI and leaving it on the XR GT.
One the related subject of whether it should be there at all, I think it should definitely be fitted to those cars on which it has been enabled, except the XF GTI and possibly the XR GT (as discussed above). I'm considering the possibility of passing the ABS state of the setup to InSim so host control programs can decide what they want to do if someone uses ABS. At first sight it does seem to be a good idea to allow hosts to enforce a no ABS rule, but I have not yet looked into the code for this.
Looks like it might be removed from XFG at least
EDIT: doh, that's exactly what Sean just wrote.

So does this mean that we have to upgrade to Z7 to be able to connect to the server? Or can I just keep on using Z5 with ABS? :norty:

EDIT: apparently you
do need Z7 to be able to connect to the host. Just a heads up...

Sadly it looks like he has had the last 6 months off work.
Well, not much of interest there TBH. Oh well. :)
I dont think I'll bother erm 'upgrading'. Suggest we all wait for the next 'big' release.
Aye, me too. To be honest, I'm too much in love with the HistorX mod to give a fig about LFS anymore, for the time being at least. LFS just feels so stale in comparison.
Quote from: Lameduck;275414I dont think I'll bother erm 'upgrading'. Suggest we all wait for the next 'big' release.
What! We don't have those annoying flags in cruise mode anymore, and now we have arrows to tell us where to go from the garage! I'm upgrading for sure... :roflmao:
:roflmao:
however it seems that the patch was only bug fixing - my opinion is that Scawen added some items just before the release to tame criticism - oops :)

Here's what he said:
Quote from: ScawenWell, I haven't been working hard on LFS for 5 months, as many people know I moved house and it took a long time to set things up properly before getting back to work properly (because I wanted to set things up nicely in our new house). However, other work has also been going on, on things that have not been released. I expect some good releases this year.
So there's hope.. :)
In true dMr style our servers have been updated to Z13.

hey guys - point of curiosity about patch Z13 .....
This weeks combo of FXO @ WE1 uses one of the cars that has been given ABS. Since about the only visible change to the user (besides the arrow indicating direction to exit pits) is this ABS, I have been using it on-and-off during the week.
I mentioned this while on the server and Seany politely pointed out that since it's not an official patch yet, it wouldn't be fair to be using it.
I didn't really notice much difference with/without ABS except that braking for the corkscrew seemed easier with ABS on when the front tires are pretty hot.
I will not be using the ABS but thought I'd mention this and see what y'all have to say :eyebrow:
Got to admit that I'd not noticed the ABS change. I 've been very careful to brake lighter and earlier on this combo as its the only way of keeping the tyres in range. Dont think they would last the full hour, but havn't tested for more than 15 laps. Even then the tyres didn't 'come back' as they occasionally do

We have a policy here at Dead Men Racing of always running the latest LFS patch. We do this to ensure that appropriate feedback is given to the devs should we find an undiscovered bug.
Now that policy makes no sense if we then ban any new features contained in the patch. So, sorry Sean, but you're wrong.
However, having said that, should we discover that a new patch feature gives a noticeable advantage to those running it then we would inform all racers who join that they should upgrade if they wanted to experience the advantage for themselves.
I think it's fair to say that our experience of ABS marries up with yours in that there's no real advantage or disadvantage in using it so feel free to go with whatever rocks your boat.
ABS has been around since Z10 if I'm not mistaken, ie. several months already. I've always had it enabled in every car that has it. *shrug*
obsolum - you be right !! I had version Z and went directly to Z13, so the ABS was new to me :norty:
Old Bloke - thanks for clearing that up...guess I will be using it then......
Last night and this morning I did some fairly lengthy testing re: the potential advantage of the ABS (and patch Z13). I have both versions (Z asnd Z13) that I can use. Couldn't tell much from running qualies on the server so I went to hotlap offline:
Version Z - best lap 1:56.48
Version Z13 - best lap 1:56.45
I do prefer the Z13 with ABS - as I noted - hard braking after the fronts have gotten hot seems easier to manage with ABS. Either way Lameduck has a good point about braking light/early with this combo - and they will last 35 laps - at least they did for me on a trial run early in the week :narnar:
I've tried this horrible car with and without ABS - go without it!
I like a setup where the rear sticks out a bit to turn in better for low speed corners (68% front if I remember well) and the ABS kills it completely. Downhill braking also seems to upset the ABS thingy, giving me longer braking distance than careful braking and it also prevents trail braking.
If you were only planning to use ABS to save tyres, balance it with the fun and excitement at each of these treacherous turns without ABS!
Server has had the Z15 patch (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=1209052#post1209052) applied.

KNOWN ISSUES :
LX4 number plate goes through spare tyre
Server now running Z16 patch (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=61959) ...
NOTE : THIS DOES NOT CONTAIN NEW PHYSICS / VW SCIROCCO / ROCKINGHAMQuoteChanges in TEST PATCH Z16 :
Improved multiple monitor and curved screen support :
The number of left and right screens can be manually entered in the
View Options screen.
If you specify more than one screen, multiple views are rendered in
different directions. This allows much wider fields of view.
2 screens - maximum FOV 180 degrees
3 screens - maximum FOV 270 degrees
4 or more screens - maximum FOV 360 degrees
As before, there are two separate sets of settings. Wide mode
becomes active when the screen width is 3 or more times the height.
Normal mode and wide mode have all the same settings, but normal
mode defaults to 1 screen, while wide mode defaults to 3 screens.
The old single projection 3 three screen mode can be reproduced by
setting the number of left and right screens to zero.
A curved screen can be supported by setting the number of left and
right screens to the maximum of 5 each. This 11 screen setup is
an approximate cylindrical projection, ideal for curved screens.
Various other setups can now be properly supported, for example :
- A 5 screen setup with each screen at 45 degrees - total FOV 225
- A 3 projector setup with each screen at 90 degrees - total 270
Other new settings :
Bezel compensation - allows for the gap between monitors
Screen widths - for centre and side screens with a different width
Note :
External views (TV, helicopter and SHIFT+U mode) are always drawn as
a single render and confined to the same area as the 2D interface.
Other changes to view system :
Two button look (left + right) is now double the one button look and
this allows up to 180 degrees look (like old versions of LFS).
Rear look (instant 180 degree view from centre of car) is now the
same on all cars (no longer shows a virtual mirror) but is disallowed
if the host activates forced cockpit view.
Cockpit view Z-buffering has improved so you should not usually see
missing parts of your seat or the car body when looking around.
Other updates :
Click car arrow on small map to view that car
Included Slovenian translation of training lessons
New key : SHIFT+O to enter options from SHIFT+U mode
Pit speed limit is now shown below the pit direction arrow
Misc option "Shadow generation" replaces Z15 test shadows key
Headlights and tail lights can now be switched on by pressing '3'
V / TAB / P / HOME / F1 / F2 / F3 / F / SHIFT+M / N work in options
Virtual dash uses symbols (soon to be implemented on real dashboards)
Fixes :
FIX : Pit lane arrow is now only shown in driving views
FIX : Pit lane arrow was shown even when car was going the right way
FIX : Autocross editor buttons were wrongly scaled with the interface
FIX : Physics objects & smoke can now be seen through your windscreen
FIX : Selected object in editor vanished behind anything transparent
FIX : Turn signals were switched off if car received any damage
FIX : Crash in game setup screen after removing a player
Server now running Z17 patch (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=61994).
Bug found in Z16. Bug squashed. Order restored.
Thanks Oldie :)
Updated
Patch Z18 (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=1281553) released. Server updated.
QuoteChanges in TEST PATCH Z18 :
Changes in the multiple monitor support system :
New slider : Screen angle - to set the angle between monitors
New slider : View offset - to move the steering wheel off centre
The FOV slider no longer sets the total FOV. Instead, you set the
FOV of the main screen. LFS then calculates all the necessary
fields of view and offsets per screen according to your settings.
This allows a much wider range of setups. You can use a wider
field of view without needing to set your monitors to an extreme
angle. The new settings also make a dual monitor setup usable.
Other updates :
Option to force external views to use full width
Connections list is now shown in alphabetical order
New key : SHIFT+Z to show the mouse cursor when it would be hidden
Names in race position list can now be clicked to view that player
Slight increase in wheels LOD reduction distance (increases detail)
Increased maximum value of Mirror LOD user setting (default now 0.3)
New text command /showmouse [yes/no] does the same as SHIFT+Z
Fixes :
FIX : A crash if a car drove outside the path area (no camera found)
FIX : Central message sub-text disappeared if escape menu was active
FIX : Flicker using roll function in SHIFT+U mode above 100 fps
FIX : LOD was wrongly affected by the previous rendered image
FIX : A debug message appeared when changing the AA setting
Patches Z19 & Z20 have been released. Server is running Z20 (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=62382).

Z21 is now on the server.

QuoteHello hosters.
I've changed the dedicated host download in the first post of the Z20 test patch thread to Z21.
This is a fully compatible dedicated host which can support UDP in the list of hosts. The plan is that when I release test patch Z21, users will ping the new dedicated hosts at high speed using a new UDP based system (which will use less bandwidth as well as being much faster).
If any hosters could update their host to Z21, that would be great, as I need to be able to test with several Z21 hosts in the list before releasing the UDP pinging system.
It is fully compatible with pre-Z21 versions, still supports TCP list of hosts as well. Pre-Z21 guests can still see your hosts in the list, so there is no problem with updating your host.
Thanks.

Hi again DMR. Been away from your server for a week or 2, no it's not because i don't like you anymore just using a different server unitil UF1 changes to a diff car. I tried the UF1 offline to see if i would enjoy using. Just couldn't get excited, so i backed off. Anyways, I will be back to visit the server soon!
Your server has been updated to Z30. Sounds like this is a sweetener from LFS devs. However it is interesting nevertheless. Does that mean that you will use new layouts?
C u on track.
Heh heh you would love the UF1 Rasta. Great racing in those little machines.
I'd like to do some of the new configs that are available now. I tried one on a different server last night for the first time and wow, I was really impressed. It was an alternate version of Aston that is a totally different track. It is like a new official layout for Aston, in fact it could be my favourite Aston track. The only thing about running them on the DMR server is that I'm not sure how pit stops would work....well, I guess they wouldn't work at all on some layouts as there is no pit lane on a few of them. But that wouldn't bother me to be honest.
Any way, add me to you buddy list Rasta on LFS World and look out for me on other public servers this week in the evening. I'd be happy for you to come and join me :)
I'll be saving the good layouts too ( already have the Aston one) for if we want to use/play around with them.
:devil:Temptation, thy name is Seany
This looks really good fun..:D

Z34 is out. :)
Server Updated
Z34 can play version Z28 replays.
Z34 can join Z28 hosts.
Z28 cannot join Z30 - Z34 hosts.
You cannot upload hotlaps made with Z30 - Z34 because they are test patches.
Please keep a backup of your LFS.exe from version Z28 so you can go back to Z28 if there are any problems.
Changes from Z33 to Z34 :
FIX : Occasional false collision detections near segment ends
FIX : Endless auto car reset after falling into the underworld
Blue flag detection function for racing on open configurations
Dedicated host window now adds new messages without flickering
KY : No humps / tyres in open configs entering GP Long from Oval
Racers
There will be an incompatible patch released shortly so Scawen has made the dedicated server available.
I'm not sure what will break when you all switch to it (Airio etc.) so for now we have a vanilla test server running alongside our Z34 server.
You will need the latest patch (when it's released) to connect to it. Look for ...
Dead Men Racing T
... in the server list.
Cheers Oldie :thumb:
Just to confirm ... the new 0.6A1 patch does break Airio although EQ Worry is working on a fix. Until that's ready to go I suggest we keep the old and new running in parallel.
Thanks Oldie

He works fast the EQ Worry geezer. :D
Needs a test but the main server has now been updated to 0.6A1 with Airio.
Patch now people (and yes Steve, we do have a forum :flirty:)
Just tested new patch.
LFS OK but Airio not running or at least all the ! commands are not operative.
Ignore the above, all appears to be running OK and auto-update took me from Z34 to 0.6A1

Excellent. I've killed the 'T' server for now.
Another test patch (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=74785) released.
Our server has been updated.
Changes from 0.6A1 TO 0.6A2 :
More updated translations included
Driver sent his / her setup - message is now displayed only once
FIX : Replay OOS error after saving an SPR with autocross objecs
FIX : Crash when "agree" was pressed on the Agreement screen
FIX : Avoided some possible unauthorised connections
Thanks for the update OB.
Looks like there is a problem though with the patch...
I still can not get my time below 1:08.......... There must be a bug somewere :narnar::woot2:
That's a well known bug that's been in since the beta was released :)
Thx Oldie :thumb:
EasyEd has found a fix, he's clocking 1:05.85
I've not bothered loading this one as Scawen has said that the official patch is imminent.
QuoteHello Racers,
We expect to release a new official version this week. It does not contain the new tyre physics / VW Scirocco / Rockingham. But it's a good LFS update for you to use while the new tyre physics system is finished.
The main things in the new patch :
- New free view in SHIFT+U mode - not bounded by the path
- Improved collision system (with objects / cars / pit garage exit)
- Maximum placed autocross objects increased to 800 (was 512)
- New autocross objects and all objects available at all tracks
- Open track configurations allowing you to drive anywhere
- Collision detection and reporting system (via InSim)
- Graphical optimisations improving frame rates
- Adjustable tyre warmers for hot lapping
- Many other fixes and improvements
Tonight another new edition here::D

Server patched ... on a Thursday ... I know, I know
QuoteDear LFS Racers,
We have released a new version of LFS with a much improved multiplayer system.
While using the same physics as 0.6B, it provides a much smoother, more reliable and interactive online experience.
In previous versions there were often delays and lags on busy servers, but the new one works in a completely different way.
We are still working on the new tyre physics and additional content, but had to take some time out from that because some hackers found a way to go online with no user name.
Some new things in 0.6C :
- New "instant" join system for fast and reliable connection
- No delays to others caused by players with slow connections
- New packet buffering and storage system reduces server load
- New hacking protection and cheat detection systems
- Two new translations : Indonesian and Romanian
- Various other fixes and improvements
List of changes from 0.6B to 0.6C :
Improved multiplayer system :
Guest only needs host packets to continue processing
No waiting for packets from players with slow connections
Leaving a host is instantaneous even if a guest is connecting
Longer timeouts avoid disconnection due to short interruptions
New TCP packet buffering and storage system :
Reduces the number of physical packets sent
Major improvement when many InSim buttons are sent
Fixes some ways to lose connection on a busy server
New "instant" join system using cached packets :
Much faster connection to multiplayer hosts
Connection appears instant to the other guests
You can pit / spectate / etc. while a player is connecting
No OOS caused by joining while objects are added or removed
Other multiplayer updates :
New hacking protection and cheat detection systems
Improved user name checks during and after connection
Lag bars at bottom left show ping or delay of all guests
Ping time (or delay) shown as number in list of connections
OOS / CPW messages now show user name instead of player name
Instead of "LAG (seconds)" now "name (seconds)" is displayed
No buffer overflows from hangs or operating system time changes
Auto rename when you join a host with someone else's player name
User name in brackets now shown at end of disconnection messages
Left / right click on player name in replay now works as online
Race setup screen /clear command can now only be used by admins
Use of UDP or TCP is shown beside host name in connections list
Removed notification sound when a car is spectated by an admin
Added /player command to dedicated host setup.cfg file
LFS World statistics fixes :
Wrong PB recorded if custom checkpoints added without restart
Live host progress did not show changes to laps or qualifying
After forced to spectate by admin - status remained "in race"
Adding an AI driver changed real player's status to "in race"
Spectating from garage screen left player's status "in pits"
Other changes :
Latvian training lessons now included
Two new translations : Indonesian and Romanian
Maximum marshall circles increased from 96 to 120
Maximum autocross objects increased from 800 to 900
Pit exit direction arrow now works in open configurations
SHIFT + N : sound on / off now works in multiplayer screens
InSim :
Added new leave reasons (CPW / OOS / JOOS / HACK) for IS_CNL
Change to in-game usage of IS_REO - only valid after SMALL_VTA
Fixes :
Custom view was not set to new car type on replay restart
Duplicate lines in scripts could cause unexpected results
Virtual speedo sometimes overlapped numbers (e.g. XRG km/h)
Leaving garage screen could cause problems with a car script
User's controller type was not shown after taking over a car
SHIFT+R near end of SPR could make cars swap between players
Circuit length is no longer displayed for open configurations
Remote car with brakes on started to roll if reset on a slope
LFS could crash when displaying laps for fuel after short laps
Ready status in lobby is now checked when a player disconnects
Load WE1R on dedicated host - Checkpoint 1 path node not found
Short MP Replays were sometimes extended to a time of 10:55.36
It was possible to make an AI driver join with a disallowed car
Message typed while watching replay appeared as written by host
Message "Max guest cars : X" now shown in the selected language
Cars intersected if players joined autocross at the same time
An unusual state in which LFS displayed only a blank screen
Two instances of LFS no longer write to the same MPR / SPR

Oh my, that is nothing but great info, I'm a info fan and I love Marvin the Martian (being a cartoon myself AtomAnt). This update isn't all that bad, I will say it was easy to install and use. I almost got lost in here (your forums) trying to find TS but Seany Boy and Jamin were very helpful. Always enjoy the LFS DMR.
Be well and see you on the servers. DMR Rocks!

Patch 0.6D released and server updated (bug in 0.6C it seems).
Problems with master server means we're not online just yet. I'll check back later.
Thx Olds, and for setting the combo as well :thumb:
Just in case, the easiest way to update your LFS is to run LFS and check the multiplayer server list, if you need to update, it will tell you. Click your local mirror server from the list and it will automatically apply the update and restart LFS. To upgrade from demo racer, click the Demo racer button and it will show you the login screen with (hopefully) your username and password already filled in, click ok and your done :)

Kicked it off again and all looks OK now.

just for CrazyR1. Tried to send similar message but your mailbox is full. Doh!
New patch. Bug fix of 0.6D
Server patched.
Server patched.
Changes from 0.6F to 0.6G :
Oculus Rift DK2 Support :
The Oculus Rift DK2 must be set to Extended Desktop mode
Start LFS, go into Options - View and click 3D at the top
For Display Type, select Oculus Rift then click OK
If all is well, LFS offers "Exit LFS to restart using the Rift"
Click OK to exit then when you restart LFS it should be in the Rift
Optional new command line options /rift=on and /rift=off
Use e.g. in a shortcut to make sure Rift mode is entered or not
LFS.exe /rift=on - try to go straight into Rift mode
LFS.exe /rift=off - do not go into Rift (ignores previous mode)
Oculus Runtime 0.4.2 (or later) is required
Trea Edge Alpha
Graphics (visual improvement of transparent objects) :
Improved edges of transparent objects like trees and railings
Re-exported all transparent textures to improve image quality
Texture names ending ATEST / ALPHA / ALP24 all now end _ALP
If you do not install new textures, old ones will be converted
Graphics (other) :
Anisotropic filtering (AF) now default 4x
Mip bias sliders saved differently in cfg.txt
- You must set your mip bias and AF values again
Increased maximum value of multiplayer draw distance
Two new 3D formats : red-cyan anaglyph and cross-eyed view
Textures are automatically resaved (if needed) for faster load
Low res textures now load just as quickly as high res textures
New car shaders give higher frame rate when many cars on screen
FIX : Car lighting momentarily vertical as car entered a shadow
FIX : Graphics options sometimes showed too many FSAA options
Skin downloading when watching a replay :
If a car or helmet skin in a replay is not available at LFS World
when you start the replay (with low or high res skins selected)
but you already have the skin in the other resolution then that
skin in the other resolution will be used instead of a plain car
InSim :
New packet IS_HCP for host to add extra mass or intake restriction
to particular cars (affects all drivers using those cars)
Misc :
Driver's body is now enabled by default
Reduced input lag when vertical sync is enabled
Frame rate limit now disabled if vertical sync is active
Cars now drawn in nearest to furthest order for optimisation
CTRL+S screenshot message now stays for two seconds instead of one
Updated translations - thank you translators

Thanks for the info, Gav.
I'm going to wait for the full release before updating our server. Scawen says this will be before Easter.

Did he mention a year?
Had great fun with Scawen and 40 other drivers (yes, 40!) racing on the access roads around westhill on some layout scawen had made up. Was a bit crazy when everything from a UF1 to BF1 was on the circuit. But some of the best racing ive had in ages :D
And no, we never touched the new circuit once :lmfao:
It was great to see packed out servers and actually see Scawen getting on track, the track possibilities are endless, so many service roads between the different tracks you can literally get lost. The track itself is superb can't see there being any delay getting it out.
A quick overview of the track for those that haven't seen it yet, every part of the map is drivable :

6H released. Fill yer boots :)
Thanks for updating server again OB, now on 0.6p, was hoping to try and get a bit of interest as it's been a while since we had any lfs activity.
First time it's been back online for a fair while and we have 7 racers joining and racing within half an hour.. maybe there's still a bit of life left in LFS ;)
