You have just over 24 hours to make sure you have your installation up to date (v1.41 including Highway Tampa map (http://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/misc/BF/2/BF2_Highway_Tampa_Update.zip)), because it'll soon be....

Whenever I download from EA, I get "Http/1.1 NS Internal Server Error 11"...

Oh well, I'll find the map on Filefront or summin' =]. Downloading the patch now - I got the game yesterday (Woohoo!) and have been enjoying myself shooting bots up till now - will hopefully see you all on the server tomorrow =] - but please go easy on me

Hi fellas and a happy new year to all dMwers!

We are hoping to bring along some of the BIG guys to your server tonight (completed COD4 and theres just no team work pah!)

Post by: merdok on January 14, 2008, 04:10:27 PM
I'll be there, I'm downloading the maps as I speak (well... type)

Yeah COD 4 is excellent but I have been missing BF2 of late, the small maps and lack of team work really prevented COD4 from being a real BF2 killer.

Besides there is nothing better than driving around in tanks and jeeps shooting the shite out of everyone along the way. :yahoo:

Been having trouble with the VoIP on BF2... whenever I switch VoIP to "Enable" and click "Apply" it says "Settings Saved". Then, when I click on something else (Like the Multiplayer tab) and click on options again, it hasn't saved and is back on disabled... not much I can do :S. Any suggestions?
On a side note, my in-game name is "Aeseth".

Not sure what you mean... also, when I patched to 1.41 it said "succesfull", but when I load the game it says 1.1. etc. However I still have all the additions from the patch & can join 1.41 servers.

EDIT: Well, whenever I restart BF2 VoIP enables and seems ok until I join a server, at which point it changes to disabled.

Took me three attempts to connect. I'd totally forgot about the 'joys' of joining a server with BF2 :sideways:

Could have been better. I think we've all been a bit spoilt by COD4 as Teamwork on both sides went out of the window. I think next time a standard conquest game might be a better plan as well.

I miss my knifing button... come back COD4! All is forgiven!

I really enjoyed it and, considering we're still finding our feet with this revival, I thought it went quite well.

The limitations imposed on voice comms i.e. only the 6 people in a squad can hear each other is a real PITA. It really does hinder the teamwork aspect.

if commander were enabled but arty wasnt then the commander could speak to all squad leaders

Indeed but still not ideal.

Being in a squad of one, when the other has 6 was a bit of a downer traipsing around Karkand.

Shopping was crap too.

Well even after doing a complete reinstall, it appears to be a Punkbuster problem :ranting2:

I manage to get on to the server and then get dumped by PB with the error message "PnkBstrB.exe failed to initialise".  I've tried updating PB, but to no effect, I sent EvenChance a Ticket, but anyone else got any ideas?

Target, have you tried this...

update to 1.41 then install the tampa map, after this reboot the computer and re-install the 1.41 patch.. then install the tool that duvel has already linked to (wont quote whats been said b4) and update punkbusted reboot and you should be fine...

I had to do the above last night which was a pain :crying:

as for the game last night, whoever I shot from the refinery to the Power station on the fist map I would like to publicly opologise...

I joined I ran 20 metres or so saw someone on the other base dropped to one knee and boom headshot wasnt until i saw it was someone on my team i remembered, although the response was pretty funny went something like "what the f**k was that" :roflmao: joking aside i'm not usually that bad and will give you a free knife kill next time

Did all that, it didn't work.

Have done some further digging and need to check my firewall settings to make sure PnkBstrB.exe is allowed, will find out when I get home if that works

I enjoyed it but then got more frustrated - it seems people on my side didn't seem to understand the concept of AAS and would routinely be seen attacking/defending flags that couldn't be taken :g:

And it seemed for a while, I was the only one trying to capture another flag, ie on Karkand the team just sat on the bridge defending making no effort to capture the next flag (I did capture the flag with a truck for a while but my calls for help fell on deaf ears and we lost in very quickly), so we died to ticket bleed - ah the joys of bf2 - I left in frustration and played civ 4 for some light relief...

I'd forgotten how intense BF2 was lol :D but I'll be back next week.

Just one gripe, can we ensure that the sides have equal numbers on them? Apart from a short spell where the sides where equal, the other side had 1 and 2 extra players for long periods - no biggy unless you only have 8 or less aside

God I was rusty lol

We'll try and be more aware of that in future. Give out a 'Teams' shout if it's being missed.

Good games. As others have said very rusty. I think I only played infantry only for the last months I played BF2 anyway and then lots of COD4. Yep we forgot teamwork, I had to remember vehicles. After all that I discover that mines, claymores and vehicles kill friends. I appreciate the comedy value of this, but I do hate the settings and I dont think I had many friends left in the end :(

Best bit: great to be playing with dMw again
Worst bit: Sulky has forgotten how to fly a chopper
Revenge bit: Frenzy knifed me and that will not do, you are warned!
Top banter: [everyone] why did you just kill me?

2nd that for the dMw bf2 server
also i havent flown a bf2 chopper for nearly 6 months and my joystick wasnt setup properly

frenzy also did the revegeeeeee thing on me as well....quite a few times

best bit screeming commands over squad talk for about 5 mins then realised mic was in the OFF position

as for tk's when i was flying the f15 out of squad id get a lot of them but when in squad i was getting forward controllers cmd's from ppl and they were taking cover as i approached, which worked out very well in the end.

As for karkland i did also get bored and tried to go around the back when we were"stuck" on the bridge, had just regened after being blown up at the ramp leading down to train and dewey screamed "sulky get in!!!" i must admit he did sound a little pee'd of, but i can understand as i had been tryin to go round the back on my own for a few minutes.

that other map with the woodyard.. cant for the life remember of me what it was called, but the guys were holding well and in the chinese chopper we just got nailed all the time.but ultimatly we collapsed like a pack of cards

all in all very good games, i think we all need to practice a bit more, the big guys meet up on vent and just "attack" a server and that works very well so maybe we can do the same

any how good games good fun and lets hope it continues

Sorry about the teams Dewey. The call did go out but when we checked we had someone just sitting back at our base on Karkand in a tank. So he got warned and then kicked. So we may have had more numbers but I don't think they were all playing all the time.

Dragon Valley was a close call. I thought we were going to get pushed back to our base after our first few forays to capture the woodyard but then we got lucky and the demise of those rascaly Jonny Foreigners was assured. :norty:

Mashtur was a bit of a surprise for us noble USMCs, but our dogged determination and stupidity, or was it your stupidity :g:, let us in again. :dribble:
Merdok is a bit too accurate with the tank for his own good. I think I might have to poke his eyes out and put sellotape over his mices laser thingy.

Good games and I forgot how intense BF2 was. There is just no let up!

Snooks no need to apologise mate it was no-ones fault after playing I was surprised how stroppy I was getting so ...

*apologies to everyone on my side - I promise not to shout so much next time *

It would be cool if we could all get on vent - you guys are welcome to come on our vent if you like - only takes a few mins to setup?

I'm looking forward to next monday - so nice to be killed and kill Liberator - we always have good battles :boxing:

See you next monday :)

Was great fun indeed, myself and lionheart had some quality sniper/anti-sniper scraps at various points of the night.

With a decent PC now, it's a lot easier being able to see further than 2 ft in front of you due to pop-up!
