There are a lot of Sci-Fi movies out there. I bet most of you have seen Alien, The Abyss and Terminator but there are of course much more out there.
Here are some sci-fi movies that I like that aren't that well known.
Hardware http://us.imdb.com/Title?0099740 (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0099740)
Post apocalyptic movie that is quite cool. Iggy Pop as Angry Bob is a delight and Mötorheads Lemmy is a joy. I am still on the hunt for the soundtrack from this one.
eXistenZ http://us.imdb.com/Title?0120907 (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0120907)
David Cronenbergs at his best. Classic special effects and a mind boggling story makes it hard not to like it. Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jude Law, Ian Holm and Willem Dafoe are very solid in this virtual reality game thriller.
The Thirteenth Floor http://us.imdb.com/Title?0139809 (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0139809)
Based on the novel by Daniel F. Galouye. Questions about reality and such.
Dark City http://us.imdb.com/Title?0118929 (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0118929)
William Hurt and Kiefer Sutherland in a very interesting nightmarish world with no sun and run by beings with telekinetic powers who seek the souls of humans. Nice twisted story with a great ending.
Cube http://us.imdb.com/Title?0123755 (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0123755)
One of my favourites. A group of people awaken in a strange environment that resembes a maze of cubes. Why are they there and how do they get out. Intense, scary and mind twisting.

The interiors for this film were shot at the Roundhouse in Camden. I remember watching it being filmed in the late 1980's ( it was in post production hell for a few years). I also met Stacy Travis the auburn haired goddess from the film. She was extraordinarily hot as I remember. Sadly the last 13 years have not been kind to her looks wise, but I'll always remember getting her autograph on my arm :D :D :D

I remember when I saw this movie for the first time. I was in London and I saw it in Empire at Leicester Square. Twisted movie and quite gory. :D
Capricorn One http://us.imdb.com/Title?0077294 (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0077294)
A NASA Mars mission won't work, and its funding is endangered, so they decide to fake it just this once. But then they have to keep the secret... Old classic sci-fi thriller with Elliot Gould. Big Brother is watching you and controlling you!
Invasion of the body snatchers http://us.imdb.com/Title?0077745 (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0077745)
In San Francisco, a group of people discover the human race is being replaced one by one, with clones devoid of emotion. Donald Sutherland and Jeff Goldblum in a classic horror sci-fi. There was a remake ( http://us.imdb.com/Title?0106452 (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0106452) ) not long ago that you should avoid ...

Until the end of the world
http://www.dvdtalk.com/dvdsavant/s53until1.html (http://www.dvdtalk.com/dvdsavant/s53until1.html)
Shot on location in numerous countries, this ambitious Wim Wenders fantasy takes Sam Neill, Solveig Dommartin, William Hurt and a ragtag group in pursuit around the world and back again. Though set in 1999 under the shadow of impending disaster as a wobbly nuclear satellite threatens to Chernobyl the planet, the leisurely gait of their worldwide escapades has a distinctly 1940s-era decadence. The ultimate object of their quest is a machine that records visual information from one person and reconstructs it in the brains of others--granting the miraculous power of sight to the blind for one thing, but even more mystically, enabling a person's dreams to be recorded. When the film seeks resolutions on the most intimate questions of the human soul which dovetail with the possibility of a destroyed world, the film is hampered by the VHS running time, which subtracts several hours from other versions. But numerous joys, not least among them Jeanne Moreau and Max von Sydow as Hurt's parents, inhabit this thought-provoking film. --Alan E. Rapp, Amazon.com
Its brilliant but a bugger to get hold of. Apparently theres a 5 hour! version, not as yet released, you can only get it on video as well. Massive cult following.
A couple of aging ones I enjoyed:
Silent Running http://uk.imdb.com/Title?0067756 (http://uk.imdb.com/Title?0067756)
A fleet of cargo ships carrying great greenhouses are out in space tending Earth's last flora and fauna in an effort to raise plants to refoliate the Earth. One man and his robot crew goes renegade when the order is given to destroy the forests and return home.
Forbidden Planet http://uk.imdb.com/Title?0049223 (http://uk.imdb.com/Title?0049223)
The film that brought us Robby the Robot. 'nuff said...
