Title: Movies for dating/the missus
Post by: Dr Sadako on July 02, 2003, 08:42:27 AM
Movies for dating is always difficult to choose but there are some masterpieces out there that many haven't seen.

Cinema Paradiso http://us.imdb.com/Title?0095765 (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0095765)
Italian/French production from 1998 that won the oscars for best foreign film. The movie is a celebration of youth, friendship, and the everlasting magic of the movies. There are two (three if we are picky) versions out there. The dir cut is 47 mins longer! Seen both versions and I really enjoyed them. Sheesh even made me cry. If this one doesn't work I don't know what will.

Amelie from Montmartre http://us.imdb.com/Title?0211915 (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0211915)
Amelie, an innocent and naive girl in Paris, with her own sense of justice, decides to help those around her and along the way, discovers love. A funny, sweet and heartwarming movie. See it!

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days http://us.imdb.com/Title?0251127 (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0251127)
Benjamin Barry (McConaughey) is an advertising executive and ladies' man who, to win a big campaign, bets that he can make a woman fall in love with him in 10 days. Andie Anderson (Hudson) covers the "How To" beat for "Composure" magazine and is assigned to write an article on "How to Lose a Guy in 10 days." They meet in a bar shortly after the bet is made. I laughed so hard that I almost shit myself. A winner!

Kate & Leopold  http://us.imdb.com/Title?0035423 (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0035423)
Corny but does the job.    Some really good laughs!

The African Queen http://us.imdb.com/Title?0043265 (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0043265) In Africa during WW1, a gin-swilling riverboat owner/captain is persuaded by a strait-laced missionary to use his boat to attack an enemy warship. Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn at their best. She got an Academy Award for this part.
