With Phone taps probably coming to courts shortly I'm a little worried. No it's not from a guilty conscience. I've heard the stories of thousands upon thousands of people's data going missing and fear that legal use in court will mean a sharp increase in phone taps, many of which will go walkies.
I've heard the argument: If you've got nothing to hide..etc. But I think thats a load of crap. If I'm on the phone I'll often go into another room so others don't overhear, and thats when I'm not even discussing bombing infadels.
If this is overscene by a judge and they have to get permission before they can gather evidence for use in court, then I'm fine with it. They won't just record everything and scan through it. The police don't go from house to house searching for illegal activity, and I doubt MI5 would go from phone to phone looking for terrorists.
But free to do as they like, I don't trust the govenment...not one bit.

according to some bloke on radio 5, 40% of Netherlands cases convicted use phone tap/surveillance evidence
Britain and UK are the only countries where this is not allowed, ? correct me here... or is not common place as evidence in court. A reason cited is that UK technologyin this field is 2nd only to the US, (and therefore we maybe too good at it ?) and if we reveal our secrets some terrorist organisations will go underground. Well go underground and stay there, break down communications in any group no mater how good they are after a while they become ineffective, (no dMw forum?)
I think we need to weigh up the lot. Terrorist activities like bombs etc in the uk are low /about the same for the last 30 years, crime and organised crime are on the increase...but they are intrinsically linked, stop the money flow cut it out when you see it.
My opinion on crime serious drugs terrorism is the same if you have the tools to prevent it ,use them. 99.999% of the population have nothing tangible to fear.:eyebrow:
Define government in this, the elected government or established Civil Serv...zzz must sleeeep
I reckon they've had us all tapped for years. In the US they have used Echelon for years to "monitor" calls for certain words...call it what u will, imho monitoring, checking blah blah...it's spying.
Any new measures the governments want to implement are obviously for our protection! yeh....right.
If they wanted (maybe they already do) they'd track us by credit card/cashline cards and your mobile phone. Your mobile can be located even when switched off. Who's to say it isnt possible to activate the mic within your mobile?!
George WAS/IS right! 1984 was 1985 is upon us :crying:

They do use it alot here as we recently found out through the media. I've also heard they sometimes put it up when there hardly isn't anything going on.
Judge approval and they first have to give the judge some evidence that you might be a T or such (no, not screenshots of you playing a T in CSS).
