Gangs of New York http://uk.imdb.com/Title?0217505 (http://uk.imdb.com/Title?0217505)

Watched this Scorsese epic tonight. Although it's got flaws it was an extraordinary two hours and fifty odd minutes of movie. I can't remember watching something to visually alive and Daniel Day Lewis was inspired. Not a Taxi Driver but certainly up there with Mean Streets.

Ahh yes this is the film that was in the making for about 30 years (most of that time in his head) Its supposidly some untold history from the states formative years. I thought it was overly long and drawn out and didn't really seem to go any where. Didn't enjoy it so two thumbs down from me I'm afraid. :(

Oh forgot to add Smilo was right about DDL's performance, totaly inspired and kept a mediocre film from sinking.

It is amazing that we can know so little about an important period of history. I thought it was complete fiction until I Googled it and discovered it was all based closely on real events  :!:

Based on a great book by Herbert Asbury which has just been re-released a few months ago after many years out of print.  Highly recommended.
