Title: Behavior and language on our servers
Post by: Whitey on February 29, 2008, 03:13:56 PM
We all know the behaviour expected from members when they play on our servers. Every member of our community, needs to remember that they are also the community’s ambassadors.
The honour of wearing the -=[dMw]=- tag, also comes with a responsibility.
Every action you do when wearing the tag affects peoples thoughts of our servers, how they relate to our rules, and also dictates how people without the tag should be behaving.

The reason for this post is simple, lately there has been an increase in unacceptable behaviour from dMw members within the community.

The rules can be read in the following links, but should already be known by all members.
  http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=3498
  http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=3497

Unacceptable language
With the new Sourcemod admin system installed, we also installed the new language filter.  You should not try and bypass the filter by sticking in numbers/symbols, this is NOT permitted. Everyone on the server knows what your trying to say and it will be considered as bad language by the admins.  A member should never retaliate when bad language is directed at them, but let the admins take appropriate action.  Please make the admins aware of any such behaviour.

  Behaviour
Community members are expected to have a mature attitude on the servers at all times.  If a player TW/TK’s a member when playing, the member should never retaliate, instead let the admins handle it.  Please inform the admins if they aren't aware.
All members are expected to show respect for their fellow players, regardless of their skill.

Nicely said.

I think you should also emphasise that this also includes Friday Night games on Meathook.

I know that traditionally, many players tend to have had a bevvy (or three) whilst playing on the Hook on a Friday and feel that they can have more free reign, but there have been some complaints and problems with members' behaviour on the Hook - doubly so on Friday Nights.

We're all friends and it's not a case of being 'heavy'..... just being thoughtful.

Yes I agree with Doorman the last line is important. Respect each other, we are all on there to have fun.

Respect is so important and it should be given to everyone even if we (personally) feel that none is deserved.

On a specific note, i said the word 'ass' as in "I'm getting my ass kicked here" and I believe the admin on the server said to watch my language.  I don't know for sure if it was me but if a word such as above is not allowed then that should be in the filter list yeah?

not meaning to cause a rucus but  tonight while drinking i accidently pressed the talk ( ins key next to left arrow) button while playing  while letting  out a "burp" which i didnt realise had been transmitted till someone said "nice", a little while later i did it again and was threatened with a ban!! .....moral of the story so ill move the transmit key

i know thou friday is busy but after waiting for half an hour to connect and then playing for 2o mins i typed "brb gone for brewster", i was about 2 mins and found that i had been kicked by an admin, now i know that we are busy but when i was an admin if someone said brb i would just slay as they were afk and give then a couple of rounds to see if they got back, i was kicked by the end of the same round that i left got a beer, then waited for another 20 mins got bored and left. I agree that things have to be admined but i feel that things are getting a little heavy handed.

Rant over:sideways:

The "rules" such as they are should be a bit less stringent on a friday night. However, ass should not be a contentious word.

I agree, Ass isn't an offensive word in any context

Sulky - sorry don't think I played on your side all evening so don't know squat about your burpage or kick.

PM sent to Sulky. No need to talk about it here.

When people go AFK please swap to spectator EVEN if it is just for a short period of time. If you are alive type KILL in console then select spectator. Thanks.

burpage wasnt a prob as it was an accident, dr sadako has pm'd me, there was some one else doing it for a while tonight and i got the do it again or your banned thing, which was meant for them, but its ok as i moved the key straight away

as for the kick , hold on quote from dr

QuoteHi,

There had been someone else doing the burping on and off and I had recieved two messages over friends that they didn't enjoy it. I had the same feeling as well. Once it is funny but when it is 5-10 times in two maps it is not. This time you got the hard end of it, but needless to say the other guy stopped as well.

I am not sure who kicked you but if you are going AFK swap to spectator to avoid being kicked. If you are alive type kill in console then select spectator.

No hard feelings.

anyhow all explained

happy again, soz for the rant

Going Spec is the answer.... you should get a couple of rounds grace and if it's going to be longer make sure you tell an admin who can tell the others.

I was guilty of not going spec tonight... I got embroiled in a Q&A regarding the LAN and didn't go spec - my bad

notice on the language filters that "spooky" is a banned word...

last time i looked spooky wasnt offensice, notice this as my brother "spookyman" joined (with the ihadabadname tag) adn then i said hello spooky to which it put up i shouldnt be saying such things.....

agree with the language and all as a whole and treating members with respect, also some of the banter can get a little out of hand but nothing really to write home about..

if DMW were "that" kind of server then to be honest I for one would not be here, and i would not have applied for bravo..

we have a great server and a great forum, some would say were the envy of the cs:s community lets keep it that way :D

Well, spooky isnt a bad word but the filter takes out anything that contains a predefined phrase. In this case I would guess "spook" being the word the filter gets.

If that is in the filter, I'll remove it.

Regarding the burping, a few people commented to me on it as well and it's just bad manners.  Maybe funny as a one off (I didn't think so) but if I had still be on the server on the second occassion, I wouldn't have ignored it.

Sorry I had to leave early last night but i'm under the weather at the moment and playing was making me feel really sick.

As for the kick, if your in spec then we wouldn't normally kick you for at least two rounds, if the server is full.  If you didn't go spec, the action taken was appropriate.

(p.s. isn't PM short for Private Message)
