Hello I have just bought WOW £7.99 HMV (Twine) Not bad. I didn't intend to but did.
A few questions before I open the box : (not my normal learning style I can tell you, open packet shove in PC set up etc)
So Are the SOG's a friendly bunch
I have read the links can I join
What character should I start with
When do you play
Do I really have to pay every couple of months
I intend using one of my old role playing names from D&D Dragon Warriors Middle Earth Judge Dread Call of Cthulu Twilight 2000 Chill.... (we had 18 RPG's) which have been redundant for 20+ years.
I'm not a WoW'er but I think it's really important the you join Azzune (whatever that is?) as it's where they all play.
Not sure if it's a server or a world or what not
As for SoG I've lifted this from their section:
Quote from: Bob;191409Pre-TBC the Silver Oak Guardians was one of the biggest guilds on Aszune, and we were among the top raiding guilds on the server (see our [thread=12576]Raid Progress[/thread] thread). As many others, we faced some challenges when the expansion was released, but we prevailed and are now on our way back up again.
SOG is today a large guild with over 100 accounts. As it always has been, our main focus is to offer a mature, friendly and social gaming environment for our members, including end-game raiding and Guild PVP groups. We do not need or want to recruit loot whores, immature kids or those unable to contribute successfully towards a team goal. If you're unable to be nice to people and work as part of a team, then please do not apply. We count you the person as more important than your gear - that's why we insist on every application having a current full member as a sponsor. If you have no sponsor then we have nobody who can vouch for your good character and behavior and your application will therefore be automatically declined.
The Application Process:
In general, everybody is welcome to apply for membership. You should however be aware of that we have a "why say yes" policy when treating applications - which means that it is up to you to give us some really good reasons for why we should invite you to our guild. As previously mentioned, it is also a requirement* that you have a full member sponsoring you. A sponsor should be somebody you know well, and you should also remember to ask that person before you list him/here as your sponsor.
After an application have been submitted, it will be available to our Members for comments. Ref. our "why say yes" policy, we will also here expect to find comments supporting your application and giving us a reason to invite you. When we have reached a conclusion, you will be notified about the result, so please do not bother Officers in-game about the status of your application (as this will only hurt your cause).
If You are Invited:
If your application is accepted, you will be invited into the guild and given the Initiate status. Whilst an Initiate, your performance, behavior and attendance will be monitored and reviewed by the Guild. After an initial period and a review by the Officers, it will then be decided whether or not full Member status will be granted. This review usually happens after about a month, but can be earlier or later at the Officers' discretion.
Please also note that whilst and Initiate, you will always be in the back of the line when it comes to participating in our organized raids. This is to avoid having people join merely for an easy raid spot. An exception to this will of course be made if we are recruiting somebody to fill a specific class need. [thread=19693]This thread[/thread] will inform you when there is such a need (HIGH).
* Exceptions can be made if we are looking for people to fill a specific class need for raiding. Your application will still be stronger with a sponsor though.
Good luck
PEN
Join Aszune and play as Alliance. Thats a good start
I believe Merdok(sp?) and Venom have recently started as well.
Yea it's true, you need to pay monthly. I don't know what the going rate is, but you get discounts for paying for more time upfront.
a Paladin is like the easiest char to begin with (though lots of noobs play it too) Shaman is the most fun. Roque is simpeler too and still alot of fun. And the Silver Oak Gueardians i knew where a real friendly bunch :) though its been over a year now that i quited.
Quote from: Luminance;224220a Paladin is like the easiest char to begin with (though lots of noobs play it too)
Hayyzz, I iz no n00b, I iz 1337 manz. :P
Haha, yeah, Paladins are pretty good, got one myself, made 100 Gold at level 30-ish, without funding. (100G at that level, is pretty good.)
I haven't checked out Aszune yet, so not sure if it's PvP, or PvE, or RPG.
You can either pay with Credit card, or Game Card, I prefer Game Cards, as they're more flexible. (I.E: I won't play for a month, so once my Game Card runs out, I'll stop for a bit. Then buy another?)
A good starting class is: Paladin, Rouge, Mage(Even though I personally HATE them.), or maybe a priest. Just make a few, and see what ya like I guess.
Aszune is a PVE server, SOG (where most dMw play) is on the Allegiance side. While all servers have the same copy of the game world, players cannot play with people on other servers. Exception is the pvp zones which are shared betweens server clusters, but at 10-15 players a zone, with 1000's of players its rare to see people from the same server, not to mention specific people.
SOG atm has people on all round the clock.
As for the class, try some and get a feel for what works best for you, personaly i cant stand ranged and healing classes, while TL cant stand melee for the most part. Its all personal preference.
If you want any more information, let me know, and ill fill in any blanks you might have.
Hth.

My character is still sat at lvl 26, shouldnt take you long to catch up.
I have about 1day and 2 hours total playtime, and some of that was just idling or wandering around not actually doing anything. So I reckon I lvl'd up once an hour roughly. I'm sure it's gonna take longer and longer the futher on we get.
I did a /who silver oak and sheepy had the only name I recognised. thanks for the tips and the invite :D
Theoline ( I think it was ) introduced herself to me yesterday :)
I'll make a character on Azune, after we've moved. We're hoping to get the keys this Monday.
See you in about 2 months! :P
Level 15 Druid ( Sithysithvid) Still having great fun can't understand half of the acronyms banter or patwa but thats part of the the fun.
Really like Darkshore, and when I get chance to team up the interaction and team play is excellent.
Thank you to Phillpa and Lexander for their friendly visits most lucrative and enjoyable.
I usually play about 15 hours a week on CS that's down to about 2 now, so hope to catch up a few more levels soon.

Skinning is required to skin animals, leatherworking only allows you to work the hides. Therefor these 2 proffesions are typicaly used in tandem.
You can lean dagger and other weapons too, but for a shapeshifter druid they wont enchance your dmg output (based on that forms base dmg and your attackpower, outland items can have upto 1200 feral attack power). In major citys as for a weapon master from a guard.
at 16 you get swimming form (swim speed increase, underwaterbreathing), 20 is cat (dps form), 30 travel form (40% speed inc), 40 dire bear (tanking form), 68 bird (speed increase, allows flying), 70 dire bird.
Based on spec these can be suplemented by owl (magic dps) and tree (healing).
aye, what bastet said, ask a guard for a weapon master.
and you can just learn 2 skills out of:
herbalism, alchemy, skinning, leatherworker, tailoring or enchanting.
You can unlearn them to learn others.
you can still learn all 2'nd skills like:
Fishing, cooking and fisrtaid.

You can add Herballism, Jewelcrafting, Blacksmithing and Mining to that list of primary professions too, although I have probably also left some out!

LvL 24. (nearly 25) Herbalism 93.
About 2 lvls a week.
I Think I'm rushing around too much, started to look at leather working and have improved my armor greatly, should have done that weeks ago.
What is the Guild Bank for ? I've put some bits in but don't dare stuff out.
Like getting mail thats cool too.
Have pet chicken, parrot and cat but they don't say or do much.
Most of my quests are now dungeon runs.
Sorry if this bores you but im having fun and want to share :woot2:
Great to hear that you are having fun :D
lvl 1 pets are there just to follow you, and there is loads of diffrent ones.
and if you are a herbalist and not got alchemy, then I would sell the herbs on the auctionhouse.
To skill herbalist a bit faster you can activate herb finding on your minimap. And you will see the herbs as yellow dots on it.
would soon be able to play with my lvl 44 huter then :yahoo: looking forward to it :D
hehe whenever ya hit 29 i'll come with ya on my priesty (gaebora) :P

Gratz on the levelling!
Try to pick herbs as often as possible to keep your profession skill level in line with your actual level, otherwise you'll find yourself in a zone where your herballism is not high enough to pick the herbs and then it starts becoming a problem. As a rough guide, for each character level you attain you should increase your herballism skill by 5, so at L24 you should aim to have about L120 in herballism to keep up.
Guild bank is there for a number of reasons, to store some items for the guild for use in raids, as a temporary holding place for other valuable items picked up during guild events or donated and to hold the guild's gold that is used to help the guild. You've found out you can deposit items, but a full description of what each guild bank tab can be used for is here (http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=23193). Try not to deposit anything too low level or of questionable value as guild bnak slots are relatively expensive - if we need to buy another tab it costs something like 5,000 gold!
Re dungeon quests - do a quick shout in guild when you are online and let's see if we can get a group together to whiz you through those instance quests and help you level!
TL.
Thanks for that just got lvl 25 :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:
and have started auctioning stuff rather than keeping it all in bank or selling it for nothing. There is so much to this game I cant believe it.
congrats :)
grats on the ding :yahoo:
you are getting there :D

At L40 you can buy your first mount - boy does it make things mroe fun without having to run everywhere!
If you have trained your LW to L225 by visiting Telonis in Darnassus then your next trainer is Wark Nightsky in Hinterlands (hidden away in the Inn building), Wark can train you to L300.
