Right guys, seems like theres plenty of members so im loooking for a bit of help.....:roflmao:
what im after is a digital camera for around £200 from either currys, argos, pc world, dixons, or woolworths.
im not too fussed on the pixels but i want a VERY good lens to capture some truly good shots of the scenery.
Reason im asking this is im going to Thailand in 5 weeks and it looks amazing, and from how much its cost me already (and i havent even got there!) i know its going to be something i wont be able to do often, so getting high quality pics is a must.
Thanks in advance,
An excited chrisje :woot2::woot2:
Have fun on the trip. I believe Toxteh (son of Blunt) is also on a worldtour amongst those regions.
Got to say that my favourite brand is Canon and especially the Powershots.
They're not to expensive but make great pictures, I'll see if I can add some pictures of my skiingtrip last week so you can see what I mean.
EDIT, here's one I took 2 years ago with a Powershot (hope the link works);

go for the Lumix :P
The dixons here in holland has the lumix .... FX-3 or something (i know its 10.1 megapixels) wich is around 219 euros :)
gr Lumi ;)
Lumix is a good spec camera, with a nice lense on it. Also I think Sony cameras generally come with pretty decent ones too.
wicked, that pic you have duvel is pretty damn good. duvel is the super strong lager am i right? :eyebrow:

There's a few guys here on the forum that are actually really into making pictures (Whitey atleast) but they use more expensive cameras.
Mine is cheap but makes some really good pictures.
I might add some more tonight.
And yes, DuVeL as in the Belgian beer (although I'm Dutch). Got called a devil with a gun once while drinking and gaming. Gaming + my lovely Grolsch = Grolschhax
TM. :flirty:
Yes, my Powershot S3 is very good, and I've got a firmware update to enable shooting in RAW mode too.
I'd get a new semi compact with a stabilised 18x optical zoom. I played with the Panasonic in a shop in Vegas, I found it slow thought the zoom was good, there's also an Olympus in that bracket which I preferred.
I like the reviews here (http://www.steves-digicams.com/best_cameras.html).

This is THE site if you want to have good reviews and comparisons between cameras.

All pictures are amde with Auto-settings.
duvel... what camera, canon powershot--- ?.. thats exactly what im looking for! :dribble:
what kind of money am i looking at for that? :g:
The Powershots are not that expensive.
Not sure which Powershot I currently have but the one I have probably can't be bought anymore as they keep updating the stuff.
Better check out the ones tht were given in the links.
Powershots are usually somewhere beween 140-200 Euros (I'm dutch so don't know the UK-prices) so they should suit your price.
Edit, just checked at a Dutchsite;
Canon Powershot A560 Serie (http://www.koopdigitaal.nl/product_details.php?id_product=50866); 119 Euro. A580; 144 Euro.
With the PowerShot A-Series, I find the optical zoom a bit lacking, the Ss have a much more flexible optical zoom, makes a huge difference. You pay more, but the Ss are a much more capable performer.
The wife has a Nikon CoolPix S-10 (http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/s10.html), which she likes and is quite decent, just not enough manual control for me, when I get all arty, luvvie.

For Scenery pictures you could appreciate a wide angle lens. Canon Ixus 860IS has a bit wider angle than most pocket size cameras. I was considering it a few weeks ago, but bought another model because of better manual controls.
