The Shield (http://www.fxnetworks.com/shows/originals/the_shield/)
Channel Five
Tuesday 10:50 second episode of the second series...so you have just missed it.
Extremely good but not much like Star Trek etc......it's an ultra realistic violent cop show. Up for a couple of Grammy's.
Dark Angel definately. AS previously mentioned the 1st series was the best, but most enjoyable viewing. Never really got into Farscape myself but have several friends who watch it avidly. And they seem to think its excellent.
farscape is good, darkangel is ok, but got a bit samey, mind you so did farscape. Bugger it i whatch them all so who cares.
Quote24 is my 'must see'.
The first series was, now it just 95% padding between 5% "unexpected" plot twists...

Yes i messed up on that one i spotted that lesser know DM and didnt really recognise it ...in fact i very nearly ran over it, i thought it was just a new species.. to my horror i recognised the old branded trade mark of the Dogmeat the "Homer Butt" and instantly tried to claim the victory being the first to point out its resurgence back into the old neighbourhood lets hope he nests in the area for some time.

babylon 5 does it for me
star trek is crap
im with zok on this one
Quotebabylon 5 does it for me
great program with some cutting edge CGI (well it was then)
Babylon 5 was huge. It collected a massive underground following with hardly any publicity. They mucked up the three films though......

Babylon five did what every series should think of to begin with. They wrote all five seasons before the recorded anything. It would only be 5 seasons and no more. There was a known ending and no sequals was planned. That made the story solid and much appreciated. A small event in season one could give a huge effect in season 4. That was rewarding if you watched it from the start.

Shame the writers of The X Files didn't pick up on that one.

One of very few sci-fi series that never jumped the shark...

Yep Babylon 5 was the first sci-fi i really got into ... and it always stayed on track. You had the weekly story which was always good and then the underlying story which until you start to watch the old ones you never really noticed. Excellent program....shame about the ending but then again how could they end it??
Farscape was a series which i would always leave the room when my missus turned it on, didnt like the crappy looking puppets i would be heard saying...then i actually stayed and watched one and then the next week another and then got hooked.
Once you get over Rygel and a few other crap puppet things the program was excellent which is why i bought the lot on DVD.
I am still impressed with the Dune TV series (not the film which sucked like a sucky thing)
Ordered Babylon 5 season 1 and 2 from http://www.splashdvd.com/ (http://www.splashdvd.com/) for £30.81 and £37.62. A very good bargain as they cost twice as much in Sweden. :D
Babylon 5 was god like yet the STUPID MUPPETS ONLY KNOWN AS THE DUMB ASS TV SCHEDULERS FROM HELL seemed to think that 2 in the morning was a reasonable time to show it. They complete fecked the whole thing up for me, showing it on a sunday, showing it on a thursday, skipping it because of tennis.
I WILL KILL ANY TV SCHEDULER RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS GARGANTUAN FECKUP!
fume       :x :x :x :x :x
Babylon five was great, but I never saw the ending - somebody spoil it for me please. The undercurrent stories were great, with the continued tension between the lizard bloke (J'kar?) and the dude with crazy halo hair spilling out into war when the shadows appeared. You could see it all simmering as the seasons went on.
I did watch a few episodes of that spin off series from babylon 5 where the lone ship had to find a cure for that virus. Starred the ever-excellent Gary Cole (from American Gothic, Brady Bunch movie, etc) but the show seemed to get binned after a couple of episodes, mainly due to it being total TANGO.
QuoteI am still impressed with the Dune TV series (not the film which sucked like a sucky thing)
I liked the mini-series on Sci-Fi channel - especially the cockney PH Moriarty playing Gurney Haleck. Couldn't quite spearate him from his character in Lock, Stock. The David Lynch film wasn't that bad and deserves it's place as a cult classic - the mainstream were never going to appreciate an epic tale of a supreme being conducting a religious jihad for control of a planet that contained a mind-altering drug that allowed space travel 8O . The Baron in that is a truly awesome performance of disgusting malevolence, and Patrick Stewart brings his usual acting prowess. Problem was that it was never going to do justice to one of the greatest sci-fi novels in history by cutting it to a 2.5 hour story.
Ho-hum.
Squeaky there seems to be something wrong with the time stamp on your posts.
You appear to be posting messages to the forum in the middle of the afternoon on a working day :?:
Clearly you aren't in the office posting from your work PC , as I'm in the office and you aren't here.
Have you popped into an Internet Cafe between client visits to make a few posts and have a coffee :?:
The only other PC you would have access to is your own one at home. But that would mean you have skived of work, as well as missing the Wembley Briefing, and are lazing about doing bugger all when you should be at work. And that's just not like you mate. I'm confused :?
QuoteI'm confused :?
But then you are so easily confused aren't you Smilo
Fair point.
But on the face of it you appear to be a workshy useless slacker...but that just cannot be :?: :?:
OH OH I know. I know what it is. You were working at another site......... and errrrrr.............had your lap top with you.......yes that's it. And you had a coffee break while working hard.......................... and posted a few messages. Phew :D
So not an idle git at all, but a grafter :D
Could both of you keep your flaming at work ... please. :P
This is not flaming.....although it is off topic I'll grant you. I was genuinely curious as to what my matey was up to today.
I like to think of it as idle banter. :D
Anyway Dunes problem was that being a massive, complex and basically big brain requiring book, it needed a director who could filter it down to it's core elements and present a coherent concise story in about 2.5 to 3 hrs.
Peter Jackson more or less acheived this with The Tolkein movies, Anthony Minghella did a brilliant job with the English Patient and David Lean created a masterpiece from T.E. Lawrences writings.
(As an aside, Lawrence died from a faulty repair to his motorcycle tyre, that lead to the famous fatal crash. And my Grandad was the very man who bodged up the puncture repair. :!: )
Lynch was simply the wrong man for the job. He can tak a simple story and weave it into a tortuous narative that has you pondering for days, but obvioulsy can't do the opposite. He turned a complex story into a mess.
Kyle MacLachlan being a talentless twat doesn't help either.
Fair point - Lynch is no story teller for the masses. Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, and Twin Peaks would bear that out. And Kyle Maclachlan is useless and certainly not fitting for the role of the Kwisatz Haderach. Alec Newman does a far better job in the mini-series.
P.S. Nice Avatar little buddy  I may make you into a convert of the great man Paxton yet  But you really need one where he has a moustache. Or at least a little stubble......
P.P.S. I was working in East Lahndahn then in Greenwich with my colleague from Legoland
P.P.P.S. Sadako this isn't flaming - you should be around on a friday afternoon when we're both hacked off with the hurly-burly world of industrial chemicals and thats when the office sets alight :onfire:
Clearly nothing to do with Farscape but Mullholland Drive was a masterpiece. First time round I was a bit hacked of when it ended but then it occured to me that I had been sat riveted throughout and that it actually made perfect sense to me (I may need professional help here 8O ). Second watching was a delight.
It also has nearly the same name as the movie Mullholland Falls. Mullholland Falls has not one but two scenes where Jennifer Connolly gets those famous ta ta's out.
Mmmmmmm what a thought. Yummy. Damn those impure lusts. I am filled with godless animal desires.
Bah, fetch my carriage. I must away to Whitechapel and set to at once, cleaning the streets of filth

Thats often how I feel after watching Paxton in Tombstone (great tache) or Navy Seals (great tache) or Aliens (great stubble).
Hmmmm, maybe I can find a pretty little substitute for Billy Willy outside the tube station......
Back on topic: Farscape and Dark Angel - Bah, utter dross. One is Bad Muppets in space, and the other is shite apart from that latin chick who looks hot when kicking ass in pvc....bet Bill Paxton would look good kicking ass in pvc.....hmmmm......
/chimpy wipes away drool at this point and logs off to be "alone"/
