Title: Fall Out 3
Post by: DuVeL on March 26, 2008, 12:46:51 PM
Fallout 3 to have over 200 endings.

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/2008/03/26/fallout_3_to_have_over_200_endings/1

Interesting; First of all Howard confirms that Fallout 3 is currently twice as big as he had anticipated, that the play area is roughly the same as in Oblivion and that there's easily a hundred hours of gameplay in it.

Hopefully the game play also as in Oblivion?
Would be nice!

Update,
Hands-on-preview here;
http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2008/08/04/fallout-3-hands-on-preview/1
Fallout 3 is scheduled for release this Autumn on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360

QuoteFallout 3 is, when all the hype and ‘OMG not as good as originalz!!one’ rhetoric is laid aside there is a stonkingly good game by the looks of it, combining the best of The Elder Scrolls with the best of Fallout.

So, in short, be afraid. Lock away your wallets and board up your front doors. Handcuff yourself to the furniture and demolish your hard drives and consoles â€" Fallout 3 is coming and as far as we’re concerned, it’s going to be as excellent as we could have ever hoped. When it launches then it will demolish your life, soak up your spare time and tear apart your relationships.

FallOut2 is like the original FallOut but with more humour and such in it.
I've been playing it quit a bit this weekend and it's good fun but as it's an older game (from 1998), the graphics and such arn't that good (duh).
What I'm doing now is trying to imagine FallOut in Oblivionstyle and got to say that I think it could be a big hit and definatly a game I'm going to get, I've played Oblivion-The Elder Scrolls untill the end and had loads of hours in the game so I expect FallOut3 to be someting like Oblivion but then with guns and funy dialogues.

Yeah, Play.com posted my copy on Tuesday, along with a copy of Red Alert 3. RA3 turned up on Wednesday, so I was hoping i'd get Fallout 3 yesterday, but no joy. Fingers crossed it's waiting for me when I get home from work. Unfortunately i'll be spending most of the evening before people come around to be social making toffee apples.

Question; I found 2 important looking books but I can't seem to read them as in previous Fallout games. Any suggestions on this?

What do you guys think off setting up tips and hints for eachother?

I didn't blow up Megaton (defused the bomb aswell) and now I get huntingparties after me. They are a tad easy but have nice guns and armour (only came upon 1 squad so far) and it seems I have a 1000$ bounty on my head because I told the sheriff that 1 guy wanted to blow up the bomb (he's at the bar in the right corner), if you follow the sheriff then make sure you watch his back. Helping the sheriff out will also get you an place in Megaton (good for storage and you have your own butler) and loads of XP.

I've found Dogmeat allready in the game when going for a quest.
He was at a junkyard near some bodies by a large shack. He's a good helper so far and seems to be able to find some good ammo/food/weapons. If you head out Megaton and keep moving towards the quest where you have to dismantle bombtraps you'll find the junkyard.

Repairing;
I found this out to late in the game.
If you've found several the same weapons or armour, you can repair the one with the other.

In every Vault are mister bobbleheadtoys, try and find them (not sure what they'll do in the end).

How do you mean 'important looking'. Any books/magazines you can pick up that are actually named (e.g. Pugilism Illustrated or Groknar the Barbarian rather than Burned Book) will appear in the 'Aid' section of your Pip-Boy. Click on them, and they'll give you a 1 (or 2, if you have the perk) bonus to a relevant skill, e.g Melee for Groknar.

I didn't *tell* the sheriff about the guy wanting me to blow up the bomb, cos when I tried that I didn't have a big enough gun to kill the dude before he capped the sheriff (and I liked that guy, so I reloaded several hours of game to keep him alive), but I still got the house just for defusing the bomb. Reloaded and did the explosion option just to watch the pretty mushroom cloud though, then went back to my previous save. I still have the bounty on my head, and have had 2 groups come after me so far.

I'm not entirely sure I know where you're talking about here. Bombtraps = Mines? The quest Moira sends you on to go to the playground in the centre of the village called Minefield, and bring her back a mine? Sorry, I R being thick. Can I find him by going on a pretty much straight line form Megaton to that place then? I ran across to it from the settlement on the bridge being terrorised by the Family, so I think I might have missed him. Need to find him now.

QuoteI found this out to late in the game.

Aye, and it not only increases it's damage mitigation, it increases the monetary value of the armour too. So if you run out of bag space and want to pick more up instead of dropping stuff see if there's anything you can 'combine' in this way. you won't get so much cash when you hand in, but it saves running backwards and forwards so much (which I find a hassle even with fast travel, and is especially annoying if you reach your weight limit while on the way to somewhere new). Also, they don't have to be *exactly* the same all the time. For example, a lot of the various types of Raider armour can be used to repair each other, not just identical armour types.

QuoteIn every fault are mister bobbleheadtoys, try and find them (not sure what they'll do in the end).
Fault? I've only found 2 so far (1 in Vault 101, 1 in Megaton). Once you've got a house you get a mounting unit to put them all on, but I don't know if you need to do that before you get the effect (I don't think so). IIRC there are 31 in game. Each gives you a 1 point bonus to *something*. Sometimes skills, sometimes S.P.E.C.I.A.L stats. I think the one in the vault gave me a bonus to the medicine skill, and the one in Megaton was for Strength.

Book, will try and aid it then. Think I found a book about medicine or such allready. Forgot the name but could check out at home.

Bombtraps = mines yeah.
When you move from Megaton to the village called Minefield it's off on the right a bit when you walk in a straight line.

When travelling or such, you could use the buffops and like beer and such to carry more stuff.

There's also vault 106 which is left (while facing megaton) from vault 101.

That's what I have for now...

Fallout 3 patch allready; LINK (http://fallout.bethsoft.com/eng/downloads/patches-v1.0.0.15patchnotes-UK.html)

Bug Fixes
Fixed occasional crashes when exiting the game or using Alt F4 to exit.
Fixed crashes when using Alt-Tab while binks or credits were playing.
The game now restarts properly after title updates finish installing.

Other stuff;
Try and go for the more difficult quest. If there's an option for the quest a bit more difficult, try that, it's worth it.

Anyone else find this the shortest game ever?
I bought it Saturday, but it took forever downloading so I only played it for an hour that night. Before I quit I created a windows live profile, and next time it started up it didn't show my saves so I started again on Sunday. Played a fair bit Sunday and I completed it today. Can't be much more than 10 hours gameplay.

Worst of all the game ends when you complete the main quest. No wandering round afterwards. It feels more like a mod for oblivion than a game it itself.

I'm going to have to load up one of my saves from before the final quest and do some of the other stuff I was putting off till later.

Oh and one thing that bugged me LOADS (**SPOILER HIGHLIGHT TO READ**) From Vault 87 I rescued that "I'm immune to radiation and I'll get that G.E.C.K for you, and then team up with you" bloke. I brought him along on the final mission cause he seemed pretty cool. I come across the chamber and hear "It's flooded with radiation, it'll mean certain death for one of us" I think to myself...I've got a plan to get around this. Talk to him, and he says "nah, I don't fancy walking in there and typing 3 lousy numbers into that machine so you (my only friend in the whole world), or that innocent paladin don't have to die." What's that all about? Couldn't afford the voice over guy to do an ending which goes "Mutants and Man team up and save to world"?

Did you not do any of the side quests or anything? My latest savegave lists my playtime as almost 16 hours, and i've not even done the second 'plot' quest yet, i've only just got Galaxy News Radio and chatted to the people there, not done any quests for them yet, and still have a stack left i've not done in Megaton. Sounds like i'm on track, as Gamespy reckoned on about 20-25 hours to do an initial playthrough not trying to speed through it asap, and closer to 50-70 or more to investigate all quests (though that is assuming several relaods to try all the quests you can only get while good, all the ones you can only get while evil, etc etc, like Tenpenny tower being your starting quest hub if you toast Megaton).

I do think it's a bit crap you can't still wander round after completing the main quest though. Will have to remember that when it looks like i'm getting close.

I agree with Carrot, while I'm trying to complete the missions and sub quests, sometimes I just wander of into the wilderness and see what I find - this is what makes the game interesting for me. They've done a great job of creating a post apocalyptic world - quite eerie in places - mind you I crap myself at scarey games hence why I gave up on Far Cry, Stalker and that  underwater game with Daddys etc. Its bad enough with Farcry I sit in front of my pc with one of my daughters nappies tucked in my boxers! :norty:

Argh, I created an windows live profile yesterday and thought I'd lost my savegames aswell. You can turn it off again and use your previous savegames though.

Got to say that I reckon I'm around 50 hours in now and when I hit level 20 I came upon an old location from previous versions of fallout, the crashed UFO. Made me smile to find it again.

BTW, one of the perks you can pick when you reach level20 or about is that all the places show up on your map. So easy to find places now and now I just go through all the places to get quests and such.

Question, how did you guys get into the Citadel?
I know the location but the intercom doesn't work and I really want to do that powerarmourquest.

I'm currently in the vault where you do a sort of dreamquest, this girl wants me to kill everyone. Isn't there another way around without killing everyone?

Vault 87, I can't even get close to it without dying of radiation. Do you have to do a quest for it first?

I will play this one the same way I played Oblivion which lasted ages for me.
I will concentrate on sub quests and exploring and tap into the main quest when I feel the need.

Although on Oblivion I also was on a mission to become ALL POWERFUL.

I was surprised though how close this game is to Oblivion.

I've played Oblivion like this aswell.
I like to play all the quests and subquests aswell but I don't really compair it to Oblivion. There are somethings the same offcourse but in Oblivion I went melee and with this game I prefer guns way more.
Getting your own house and so does remind me about Oblivion but I didn't use it that much in Oblivion but in Fallout I use it loads.

I'm looking forward to what the modding guys will do with this game though!

Warning - Contains spoiler (highlight text to read it)

Get into the Citadel Automatically after rescuing Dr Li. Power Armour training is then given.

To get out of that land you can guess the code in the abandoned house (click on the objects to interact...shouldn't take more than a couple of mins to figure out the code) Use the console to enable the chinese invasion scenario.

To get into Vault 87 you'll have to go through the caverns through the village with the annoying kids. You rescue some kids from slavers and they give you free roam, and if you keep trying to talk to the mayor eventually new speech options show up. Which is annoying because I didn't realise...and was looking for ages for another way.
(To rescue them from the slavers I just killed them all...it wasn't hard...there was a quest but I didn't bother)

When in Vault 87, rescue the guy, and you don't have to worry about radiation.

Basically if you follow the main quest you get into most of the places automatically. But after you complete to retake the purifier it's all over.

'Ello there guys - Fallout 3 has gotten me really back into compuiter gaming again - really enjoying it...

Like Dewey I'm moving away from the main quest at the moment and exploring (also investigating the various 'homemade' weapons you can collect).

I have to say, I've never been into role playing games all that much, but if Fallout 4 turned out to be a massive online game like WoW (just spitballing here) then I would be persuaded.

The world is fantastic and I love ambling around and dealing with what I come across. For example, in the middle of no-where last night I came across a party of two slavers leading a slave somewhere, they ended up skewerd on me Shishkebab ('Owww er, Matron!') and I freed the slave. Excellent stuff.

It's that idea that there is stuff going on out there all on it's own that makes this game so good.

Bethesda has detailed and dated the first downloadable content for Fallout 3, as well as the release of the first content creation tools for the game that will let players create their own mods.

The Fallout 3 modder toolset, called the G.E.C.K, will be released on PC only this December and will let modders create all new dialogue, items, areas and quests.

The DLC meanwhile will be coming to both the Xbox 360 and PC platforms. There are three packs currently planned, the first of which is called Operation: Anchorage and which will be available for both platforms in January. The pack will set players in military simulation that sees them trying to liberate Anchorage, Alaska from Chinese invaders.

The second expansion, The Pitt, will allow the player to journey to a new raider town located in the ruins of Pittsburgh where they can get embroiled in local politics. The Pitt is expected in February.

The final DLC, Broken Steel will continue the adventure beyond the main quest and allow the player to fully enlist with the Brotherhood of Steel and fully purge The Enclave from Washington. Broken Steel is scheduled for release in March

I read about that somewhere that the Pit was full of bugs and such on the Xbox and so.
Haven't heard anything yet about the PC.

Quick query - I have F3 and Broken Steel DLC and I intend on playing it all the way through to level 30. But when I hit the level cap will I not be able to play The Pitt or Anchorage because they are geared for level 20?  Or will the game somehow drop my level back to 20 for these first two DLCs?

Well the original game was geared towards you levelling 1-20, and to be honest by the time I got to about 18+ (if not before) it was a complete walkover for everything I came up against. If you download Broken Steel (which only kicks in terms of world content after you complete the main plot of Fallout 3) you can level past 20 before completing the main plot. You can also go back after completing the main plot and do some of the side quests that you missed. As such, I fully expect that you'll do Operation Anchorage and The Pitt at whatever level you are currently at, and if that happens to be >20 it'll just be the you find them pretty easy.
