would you say it will be more graphics intensive than crysis?

Remember this is not by Crytek but by Ubisoft I seem to remember.

I'm still on P4 3gig and a 7800 AGP card. There is not really any point in upgrades so I'll be saving for a new Rig once the wife goes back to work :) Untill then I can't really afford a new rig.

Hate to say it but:

QuotePublisher Ubisoft has confirmed that the PC its open-world shooter Far Cry 2, which hits alongside the PS3 and Xbox 360 editions on October 21, will use a slightly different configuration of the SecuROM DRM technology found in Spore and Crysis Warhead.

Ubisoft forum manager bukowski113 posted the deatils on the game's official forum:

    * You have 5 activations on 3 separate PCs.
 * Uninstalling the game "refunds" an activation. This process is called "revoke", so as long as you complete proper uninstall you will be able to install the game an unlimited number of times on 3 systems.
    * You can upgrade your computer as many time as you want (using our revoke system)
    * Ubisoft is committed to the support of our games, and additional activations can be provided.
    * Ubisoft is committed to the long term support of our games: you'll always be able to play Far Cry 2.

Upon Spore's release, the game's DRM generated a fair amount of controversy, to the point where someone filed a class action lawsuit against publisher EA.

EA CEO John Ricitiello recently spoke out on the subject, admitting that while he doesn't personally like DRM, it is needed to fight piracy and is "something that 99.8 percent of users wouldn't notice."

Seems fair to me to be honest, just make sure you uninstall correctly if you need to install so often, which I doubt most people will need to do.

Will probably get this game sometime, should be interesting.

The issue is less the uninstall/reinstall, which I also have little problem with. It's the DRM they use to enforce that, which causes a lot of people no end of problems as it inserts itself between DVD Drive and OS and acts very much like malware, so if there's anything it doesn't like (say an incompatible/unknown DVD drive) your DVD drive stops working, and in some cases it causes bluescreens and other issues instead.

My PC gives me bluescreens on this piece of pooha programming, it will casue the vidcard to sieze up at some point. Shame really, its a good game and id love to play it.

Anyone with an Ati card and far Cry 2 might need to get the AMD hotfix for FC 2:

IIRC correctly, the spore installation did not uninstall the SecuROM DRM rootkit thingie, when the game was uninstalled. From the text above it is not clear whether that has changed.

Anyone else got this?

Anyone else disappointed? Lot's of to'ing and fro'ing, fire is over-rated. It's run of the mill at best. I'll write more when I can be bothered if anyone is interested.

I agree completely. Very disappointed. Gfx were quite bland (though with everything turned up to high i still had no problems, even without the ATI hotfix). Gameplay just very bland and samey. Voice acting is atrocious. There's no real sense of plot or progression. I'm gonna see if I can trade my copy in for Red Alert 3 or Fallout 3. Got about 4 hours into it and just gave up in boredom. Luckily, i've just (finally) worked out how to play a Pally and have fun, so i'm revisiting an old character on WoW instead :D

I like it. I must say the driving seems a bit much. Maybe quick travel between safe houses rather than just bus stations. I like how it's more RPG than FPS, choosing between guns, upgrades etc.
I've barely scratched the surface, but i've no big issues with it just yet.

My biggest issue is that I can only play in DX9 not DX10 (it crashes after 5 mins in DX10)

So much for my monster BFG GTX280 OCX :(

my gtx260 runs it at max in dx10 and doesnt crash, try riva and lower the clocks slightly if its stable send bfg an email explaining the fault, they may let you rma the card...worth a try:)

I've only just received this as a replacement for another card I RMA'd :(

Lots of people are having the same prob in Vista, part of the issue is a conflict with aero which I have disabled but still no go (even tried latest beta drivers that others seem to have found solves the prob for them but no joy)

This must be an nVidia specific problem then. I'm using an ATI 4870 in Vista 64 DX10 mode, everything turned up very high at 1920x1200, and it runs smooth as you like and i've had no crashes. I still don't like the game much, but at least it's stable...

One thing that is bugging me - why can't I turn HDR rendering on? The tickbox is greyed out.

HDR is on by default in DX10 I believe.

As to my problem it is caused by Microsoft/ATI/nvidia (yes it does affect ATI cards as well)

The problem is to do with something called TDR and if anyone googles you will find no end of people having problems with it and no solution in sight :(

I have a 4870 with Vista 64 and I get crashes. Straight to desktop no warning. I quick save often and play it reguardless. It's usually over an hour between them so I take a short break and jump back in. Bit of a pain though.

Might have found a fix. Several people on diff forums have reported that going back to the 177.41 drivers has solved the problem. I managed to get those drivers from the Guru3d website and have installed them. Played FC2 for about 30 mins with no crash, fingers crossed.
