The rating system is based on the intenational ELO-rating system used in Chess. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating_system
All players (or for us Teams) start with an rating of 1000 which also is a lowest achievable number.
On this page you see the forumula and how it works.

Yup, that makes perfect sense to me.

In your world maybe but I reckon I was at least 59.9 seconds faster than you :narnar:
And I was editing the post ....
Here is a calculator that does the job
http://www.littlethorpechess.co.uk/elo_calculator.htm
just look at the source code of the page to steal the script.
The ranking system explained above only takes win/draw/loss into account. I know it was discussed that some sort of bonus maybe should be given to lower rated teams if they manage to get rounds from a better rated team. I had a long hard think about it and discussed it for hours on my way home with Delan but we couldn't find a fair solution to it. I feel that a lost match should result in lost ranking points.

FOR THE SCRIPTY OUT there (sry caps)
The thing we need to clear up is how we admin. We would essentially need an admin on at any time there is a match. Pretty easy generally, but can you add selected team captains just the ability to hit 3rr?
So now the ladder is sorted, how about the deagle server, would you need to 3rr that?

What you need is a word trigger in chat like the "MOTD" that does the RR, say "3rrstart" and 3 restarts would be done. Whitey knows how to do that.
The deagle server should be easy to sort out.
I think it would be good to restrict it to Charlie (maybe Bravo) only as a membership benefit.
For those admins not at the LAN:
We have decided to shelve any plans on rejoining ED for the time being and start up the ladder again but this time using a chess rating system (similar to ED).
We will also be introducing an informal 2 v 2 Deagle server that individuals can team up on and have a quick match. Stats will be used to determine the placing of the individuals.
So still hunting around for an easy way to run it and no doubt smoeone can do it easier than I, but bless, I'm trying.

ignore the cost for now and also;

Was originally looking for a way of using ELO and spreading it amongst the team. So essentially you could have any team of 4 and it wouldn't matter.
So imagine Team A vs B.
Team A consists of the following ratings (max 2000 for example):
(1)1600, (2)1500, (3)800, (4)700.
Team B consists of the following ratings (max 2000 for example):
(1)2000, (2)1100, (3)800, (4)300.
Then the result would place the pairs off against eachother in reverse order so lets say A wins. The scoring would be based on;
a1 vs. b4
a2 vs. b3
etc. so highest vs lowest. Then the highest skilled person would stand to lose the most in playing a lower rated opponent.
Not sure on the full dynamics, and am fairly sure I could do it in excel and post it up, but it would be manual updates (which again I'm happy to do).
I know this is a bit weird, but I really like the idea of it not mattering if you can't get a team, you can join any 4 and play whenever you like. Maybe this would be more suitableto the deagle games.
Let's say that Butta and I played Sadako and erm....Whitey (for being rubbish sake)
It's in my interest to get a few kills because in reality I'm pitched against Matts. The more Butta shoots him, the better for me, and vice versa with Whitey and Butta. Make sense? No? Good, I kknow what I mean, and this is essentially a brain dump.
Comments? Constructive preferably.
I think both pieces of software would be good enough, the first one seems to be the most flexible. For the 2v2, the individual ranking and non-structured teams would be good but for the 4v4 ladder, I would rather have fixed teams with a subs list (but some form of penalty for using a sub would be good). Having fixed teams would help with team building and developing tactical play.
I could probably write something in PHP that would do the job but I don't know when I'd get round to doing it.
Bumpity Bump.
"The Peasants are Revolting" (to quote Mel Brookes in History of the World Part I).... superb movie.
I think we need to get this back on track. I'm sorry that I havn'et got the l33t skillz to help with the technical side but I'll stand in front of you all and take the flak :).
If we can't introduce the new format for a while perhaps we should just use the existing one and let that one ride for the time being?

Unless someone jumps in with the new ladder software soon then I agree.
Apologies from over here, I'm being killed slowly at work so have had little time for anything.
I get five minutes of trials here and that's about it. If I get some more time I'll chirp in..
Right then gang, we need to make a decision here.
I think, given the circumstance, that we should re-initiate the existing ladder.
Whitey, I guess we have all the parts in place so to do?
Shall we post it up again and invite teams to join?
Then, when we get around to working out a new system we can switch to that.
PEN
That sounds like a good plan. The software was re-installed and all it needs now are some teams :D
I'll post it up (plagarising majorly from the last one :D )
Done.
I've 'soft' deleted the original posts for housekeeping. I guess we should archive them in due course and start afresh.

It's pretty obvious we haven't got enough interest so I agree that we pull it and see what happens.
I've said to Jabbs that we can use the software for a 2vs2 Deagle if enough people want it. I doubt it'll draw enough players but I hope that's OK.
