Title: Proposed Oct Lan Dates
Post by: SecretSquirrel on July 31, 2002, 05:05:39 PM
The Lan Comittee has held its first meeting and has come up with some recommendations to which we need some feedback:

1. Dates - either the w/end 19th & 20th Oct or 26th & 27th Oct.

2. Venue
option 1: For upto 20 persons, use same venue as last time here in Cambridge. This venue can only hold 20ppl max.

option2 : For 21 to 60 persons Griffin Hotel in March, Cambs.
Fatbob has done some research and come up with the following costs :

Hire of room £110 for w/end i.e £5.23/person based on 21 ppl.
The Hotel also have rooms singles £45/room/night or Double £55/night. However these rates are negotiable.
The prices are similar to Travelodge rates but with the added bonus of being much closer.

For those who haven't been to March before, it does have a number of eating houses including the ethnic kind together with a number of the usual drinking hostileries(Pubs to you Smite). It is approx 30 minute drive north of camb.

We decided to propose a larger second alternate venue because we felt from the interest shown that there could be a large number of requests including non clan members.Otherwise to remain with opt1 venue will be a first come first served basis with dMw members first.

So firstly please indicate 1. Preferred date.
2.whether venue2 would be acceptible if the reponse indicated a number greater than 20ppl.

FIRSTLY I WOULD LIKE TO SAY PLEASE DONT SPAM THIS POST AS WE NEED TO KEEP IT SIMPLE.

I am OK with any of that even if there are just 10 of us (£11 each) it may be quite good to have the venue as the place we sleep.
The only question i have on this is can we have the venue all weekend ie times:- Sat early through to Sun afternoon? and can we go into the venue through the night if we havnt had enough during the day? (even though we will be pissed, there is nothing funier)
Will our equipment (computer before u say anything SS) be safe?

I like the idea of the hotel if the numbers are up to it - not having to navigate for Gandalf on the way back to the lodge will be missed though ;-)

Count me in for it - whatever it is  8)

Some good points there Mr.SmiteThee.

Mr FatBob will be doing a reccy of the aforementioned area this w/end.He may(if he remembers) take some piccs but he will go armed with any questions ppl would like him to ask.Certainly security is a definate and how long in function room is another(will there be free pies is willl also be high on his agenda).

At this early stage we were trying to get a feel for numbers and venue and what the ppl thought in general.

I'm in for the count.  Now March being the ringpiece of the devil's arsehole, I have some questions that need answering. Will we be ;

1. SAFE from Homo-phobic fork wielding web footed carrot farmers.(Critical)

2. SAFE from the advances of certain above forementioned daughters.(Not so Critical depending on the beer factor)

3. SAFE from public ridicule for not having webbed feet and hands and smelling of carrots and speaking like Tits.(Critical)

I expect these to be answered from the commitee at the next meeting.

Any chance we can add the 12th and 13th of October to those options please?

I reckon we ought to then settle this by the vote.

That'd be bestest for me too, as the g/f is away...miles and miles and miles and miles away.....ahhhh.....mmmmmmm..................er...sorry, where was i...

Alternatively i definitely couldn't do the 19th/20th, but i might be able to do the 26th/27th.

Theres no reason why the 12th/13th cannot be added - afterall its what suits the majority

Regarding JB's request for inviting others of his clan i  personally dont have a problem in principle (the more the merrier)but depends on other dMw members and on numbers. We are only looking to supply one dedicated server. I'm not sure at what number of ppl another server would be required and then sorting a 2nd server might become a problem.

Bloody hell Oldie - that means you've now got exactly 50% of your salary coming to you as a pension, plus the basic state pension - you'll be rich in retirement  :D

Wish I had 50% of my salary waiting for me as pension  :(
