Age Of Conan: Hyborian Adventures (http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/3310624/Age-Of-Conan-Hyborian-Adventures/Product.html)

So will it be better than WoW? :g:

I don't think it has to be "better than wow" in order to corner a section of the market and be successful, to be honest.  All it has to do is provide an alternative to the wow model which they seem to be doing - by going with more realistic graphics, a less cartoony feel, more adult-orientated game play, and the increased reliance of "twitch-based" combat it should be able to pick up quite a few disenchanted wow'ers with which to build a community.  More so if they eliminate the ridiculous treadmill grinds in wow, although no mmo has really achieved that yet.

I haven't decided if I'll play it, but perhaps I'll give it a go.  Wow was great while leveling but I just can't face another game that makes so many demands of my time for such little reward in the end game ("yay great, I've killed Ragnaros, now I only have to do it 20 more times before he'll drop my god damn T2 pants...").

i'm a WoW player but i'm definately going to have a look at the game and see IF its all the hype people been telling me about.....

And to be better then WoW wouldnt it mean having more than.... 10 million (IIRC) subscribers.......

hehe Chimp i agree.... end game's pretty pointless unless you're raiding the BIG raids :P

I've been in the technical beta for AOC for a while. It is very different from WOW. Sadly, for me, it has nothing that grabs me. It lacks the polish of WOW (to be expected in a brand new game I suppose) and doesn't have the 'WOW!' factor (pun intended).

It's hard to put my finger on it but it just seems very much like every other MMO except WOW. WOW looks and plays uniquely. And while that may be boring to many old WOW players at least it captivated them at some point. AOC oddly feels like a game I have been playing for several years and am beginning to get a little tired of. The problem is of course it's not even been released yet and already it feels 'old'. Does not bode well

After a few weeks of play... I'm still not enjoying it.

Up to level 30 and it's a horrible slog.

The first 20 levels are on an island with lots of voices, cut scenes, etc.  All very gentle break in. The only problem is it's exactly the same (bar one class specific quest line) for every character.  So if you reroll you get to do it all again.  Even the Barrens wasn't that bad chat and all.

The graphics are really good, though struggle on a lot of machines.  Combat is different to WoW, though the vaunted combo system means pressing 2-4 keys in a simple simon style rather than hammering sinister strike.

Loot is a bland experience and still a mystery.  Hmm shall I wear the level 2 bracer with +0.2 defence or the level 10 bracer with +0.2 defence? Is there a difference. Stats on items only started having an effect in game last patch! Almost all characters end up in a skirt!

One of the most painful things is loading screens every time you open a door, walk through an arch, blink.  They really love them.

I don't hate it, but I hate the fact they released the game 6-12 months early to make money pre-WAR or WotLK and it's in such a broken state.

I've tried hard to love AoC and U think the biggest sign I can't play it is I've not managed more than 90 minutes of play before wanting to do something else.  WoW was more like 4+ hours.

You have climbed inside my brain and have stolen my thoughts.

That's exactly where AOC is now. Maybe in a year I'll enjoy it but right now every minute I am in AOC I just want to be in WOW. So account canceled.

make that three. I want to enjoy it and feel that, in time, it will be a very good game. But for now there is nothing that really grabs me.

I remember my first day in WoW, at the time I was heavily into EVE Online and gave WoW a try after loads of corp mates started spending more and more time away from EVE and in WoW.

I chose a human warrior and from the minute I arrived in Northshire the game had me, I have played every class, and every race bar the Dranei and the game still has me in it's seductive embrace. I took an 8 month break to persue other interests, but the call of WoW was still there. I've been through three different computers with WoW and it still looks as good as I remember it back when I slayed my first wolf.

Three years into the game and I still have things I've not done, places I've yet to visit. And there is another expansion soon too! Damn them, they're turning us into slaves!

Any game where my Undead rogue can eat the still warm entrails of some young pretty but very dead human paladin girl has to be the winner... :eyebrow:
