Just finished watching it, yup quite a good film I thought. I think what was clever about it was that they put a big emphasis on the "Nationalist" side with subtle "unspoken" comparions between HRM Forces and the supposed "True English" (I should say British, but just for sake of ease) in a way of (i thought) working out which group were truer to the cause.
For me though the end was very powerful, It completely diverted my attention away from what had just happened in the last 1 1/2 hours of the film. Those few minutes (I felt) really showed what the true England (Britain) stood/stands for.
Very clever film, I really liked seeing the footage of the Paras celebrating and the return of the troops.
If I have said something wrong, please correct me, this is only my interpretation of it though.
What did you guys think?
I enjoyed the film a while back. It was a well crafted film which tells a different story, one that stays in your mind because it was very well writen and all the characters were beliveable.
Well worth grabbing on dvd.
I just watched it too, I don't watch many films these days as mostly all I see is overpaid actors acting. I wanted to see this one though as it was filmed near me and the cast were local.
I'm still a bit "wow" about what I've just watched, within a few mins of it starting I was in it. I recognized a lot of the characters from my own past in the early 80's.
I think that because most of the actors in the film were first timers, probably amateur, but the writing and production was professional, gave it the realism it had. The fact that the missus and me talked about it after, then I go online and the first thing I see is this topic says this film achieved it's aim.
Superb film that will in time be regarded as a classic I'm sure.
