I was out listening to Satriani last night - the best of his concerts I've ever been to. I noticed the place would have John Mayall playing some weeks from now, and the discussion after the concert at the pub was for a while on the subject. My first thought was this one:

(Mayall, Clapton, steppin' out) The BBC sessions with the higher pace is also cool...
Another good candidate could be Peter Green's Black Magic Woman?

(long live version)
There's Hooker, BB King, and plenty of the old delta and detroit blues artists to add to this... but what do you say?
Interesting compilation btw here, from a learning perspective:

I'm not sure really, I don't listen to much blues rock recently, but some more "recent" artists which i'd say are important include Clapton, Gary Moore and Jeff Beck. Jeff Beck's Where Were You is amazing, but maybe it's going into a different territory rather than blues. Eric Johnson's Cliffs of Dover is good also. :narnar: There's something raw about Roy Buchanan's Sweet Dreams. Jeff Healey's version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps is stunning. I'm sure I could keep editting forever, not sure if I could come to a conclusion on the best!
Anyday by Derek and the Dominos.
Not really rockin' but always liked Smokestack Lighting (Howlin Wolf) and also Red Rooster. Can't find a decent version of Lightning.
Linkages:

Got a ton of this stuff, for some reason was massively into the blues as a teen. Shuddup, it's better than being a goth.

(I saw him in Tempest in Germany and their version of Paperback Writer was unbelievable.)
Now I mention it, I saw all of these guys in Germany in the 70s and 80s...
Both guys, good stuff! Been sitting here with my legs up and relaxing to all that stuff... and yes, my bum is asleep.... Especially Chuck and Springsteen was a cool watch
Forgot Stevie btw.

And Ben Harper and the Blind Boys from Alabama's take on Well Well Well:

Bought the album. It rocks.
Also DJ Shadow's Broken Levee Blues, from a very strange "leftover" style turntablism-style album:

Apart from that I kinda enjoy Hound Dog Taylor and the crisp 60s distortion. Songs like Gimme Back my Wig:

Another great one is Lenny by Stevie Ray Vaughan.
