Title: Nicely done :)
Post by: Penfold on June 23, 2008, 10:40:02 AM
WoW I've missed a lot of threads.

Been out of the loop all last week at a launch and have come back to COD Mania.

I'll order it today.

Just thought I'd big up you fellas for all working so hard on it - I've seen a ton of config, settings, admin posts relating to the launch.... particularly BB and Arm.

Good work gang :thumbsup2:.

Use the affiliate link.

I suspect quite a few will need to or want to order it, hence the suggestion to post something in the open section to prep people, otherwise we'll launch a server and find everyone going "yeah, next week when my copy arrives".

I guess we will have to learn more about the maps to find the ones that work with the dMw style. Have you had a look here? http://www.fpsbanana.com/maps/games/605

What type of game types will be on the server?

We are launching with just S&D and adding HQ, Sabotage and may be Domination (not so sure about that one) over time.
We will see over time which maps work better with our style of play and game mode.

I have only played SP until yesterday when I played multiplayer for the first time so I am not up to speed with what all the style mean.

S&D= Search and Destroy i.e. playing counterstike bomb map
HQ?
Sabotage?
Domination = "king of the hill" capturing multiple flags as in BF/UT/etc and more flags give more points.

Maybe a post in the general forum to explain this?

Sorry,

HQ = Headquarters

There is one randomly spawned HQ on the map and it is down to the 2 sides to capture it, The team that captures the HQ is now the defending team and gets points over time. and the other team has to attack. Once captured a new HQ will spawn again. Players respawn.

Sabotage

One bomb, but both teams have a bomb site to defend.  Again players again respawn on this one.

Domination is capture the flag, but with 3 flags. Again I'm not a fan of this one. It's a bit manic.

Ok, thanks. All sound interesting and I think we just need to try them out.

The domination one doesn't add up for me. So if it is CTF then each team has 3 flags. You steal the flag and try to return i to the base that needs to have a your own flag there to get the score?
I thought it was like BF2 that you capture points  and you earn points by holding that flag. More flags more points.

There are 3 flags on the map. The more you hold the more you score.

Domination isnt so much CTF as BF2 - ie you need to hold the flag positions.

There are some fantastic maps out there. If have played one in particular that is just awesome (mp_village (http://www.fpsbanana.com/maps/44408))

However, I think we need to get a core number of players up to speed on the core maps first before we start branching out onto the custom ones. What was it TL used to say? Ah yes, Patience young padawan :)

I know this. The reason for suggesting to look around is that some maps are more DM style maps which is fine if you want to play DM. I am sure we don't want that. :)

Agreed.  I would have been online testing, but my gfx waterblock has someonehow come a wee bit inconnected with my gfx card, hence GPU2 sitting 33 cent and GPU1 sitting at 89 centigrade!  Getting it sorted during the day tomorrow, so should see you all online after that.

What happened in BF2 tonight. I saw 2 on at one point but then went off for an enjoyable evening of CoD4 - we managed 5 of us which is pretty damn good considering only the admins know about it!

I was on the BF2 server quite early and unfortunately it was dead, only a maxium of 5 people were on at the same time, but for the majority of the time it was 4 players (all dMw) then everyone left :crying:

Bring on COD4! :yahoo:
