Right then you miserable sods. I know you can see this and will brook no apathy :boxing:.

Anyone got anything to say (vaguely non-abusive if possible).

I guess we're looking at CS:S as a standard
Are we going to run COD4 as a direct replacement for BF2?
Do we need / want to run BF2 at all?
The LFS'ers should also get their race.

I would suggest that run CSS and CoD4 and no BF2. LFS and CSS tournaments as the last LAN?

I think the LAN could stand a big BF2 battle for old times sake and why not add a COD4 tournament.

No BF2. We have moved on and the last thing we want is a clamour for its reintroduction because 'it was such a blast at the LAN'.

What about a RTS, I know there were a few played last time. May be it would give that section a boost.

Not sure what the hottest RTS is at the moment. But C&C is a classic

Why not dump this on the BIG fellas? They are into RTS games.

If they're coming and are bringing a server then we can ask them to set it up and run it for us. It would save unnecessary work from our end, give them active participation and save the strain on the server.

I agree with Mats, this is a much awaited and will attract attention. As with BF2 with FPS games, better make sure one RTS only?

Not old to me. but i don't have any RTS at the moment. we just need to find a game that most people have already.

Well, how about the old Starcraft then? Maybe that could be something for everyone. You can buy it cheap. It runs on every machine. You really need to play Starcraft+expansion to enjoy Starcraft II.

imo RTS is ran by those wanting to play it, ghosty and his m8s were runnign on last lan that i got in on but it wasnt very good.

BF2 is the past, lets not revisit it.

im going to get COD4 and try it ASAP.
CS:S imo should have the usual 2 tourneys team knockout and degal
Title: Right then you miserable sods
Post by: Penfold on August 01, 2008, 09:59:21 AM
So we have the givens:

CS:S  -  (two comps -  5/66 vs 5/6, and Deagle)
COD4 -  (1/2 room vs 1/2 room)
LFS comp (bespoke will be fitted in on the Saturday as per usual).

These are the ones for BA3 to run and I would suggest that these are the 'official' games.

I'm happy to have another game be it RTS or whatever (so long as it's not bloody Soldat :)) but it's going to need to be cheap / popular / free / 'demo' available or else we just don't get the numbers to make it viable imho and just ends up fragmenting the game play.

We know people are reluctant to spend out on games (which is why TF2 flopped last LAN). I would be reticent about going with anything that people have to make the effort to go out and buy.

Quote from: Penfold;239546COD4 -  (1/2 room vs 1/2 room)

I would have thought we would want limited team sizes for COD4 (between 6 and 8 in a team).  Having 20 v 20 works ok for BF2 but COD is more in line with CS and too many people would make it difficult to play in a tactical way.

I don't think we are "forced" to have a ranked server at the LAN and thus we could play some of the custom maps that are out there that hold more than 20 players. If we only play standard maps then I completely agree with you.

Correct you do not need to be ranked but you may find the server overwrites your ranking information so make sure you all backup your profiles before playing :)

Mats, as we discussed, I think you should decide a 4th game that we will dish out at the LAN.

Tell no one what it is and we'll bill it as Sadako's Surprise. So long as it's accessible and easy to distribute we can schedule it.

I also want to announce the games list soon. Partly because I want to give people a heads-up to the fact that COD4 is going to be the mass game of choice and hopefully more people will go out and buy it.

That will also help enhance its popularity on our servers.

So we agree?

1. CS:S
2. COD4
3. LFS
4. Sadako's Surprise

Sheepster - you the man, would you like to post it up?

Yes yes yes !

I used to love playing Red Baron years ago.

I was thinking that it may be fun to have a flight combat game. Something we've not done before but one which I think most people would enjoy having a go at.

May also keep those BF2 fly monkey's from whinging this LAN :flirty:

The fact that we can play up to 8 is cool.

I know this is a late idea but.. how about some version of Ghost Recon? I think you guys must've tried it a past LAN? There are tons of versions now, but do 2 sets of 8 vs. 8? Lots of sneaking, camping, comms, tactics etc. - and everyone can play the game. I have the classic version, got it used from a market, I'd be happy to let that version be copied all over.

So Sadako's surprise is a non-starter. shame I really fancied a flying-type game and thought it would be popular.

Anyone got any other suggestions?
