Title: Tesco/Aldi Premium Lager
Post by: Thulsa Doom on July 27, 2008, 09:47:35 PM
Saw a recent thread in hotdeals.co.uk about Tesco premium lager.
Some folks says it's Grolsch.  Others say it comes from same factory.

Aldi is 'apparently' Stella.

I haven't tied the tesco/Aldi stuff, but makes me wonder if they are what alot of folk are saying!

Anyone know?

I have been to the grolsch factory, and yes they do make more then just their own standard.
but i highly doubt it tesco and aldi have beer from there

even if it is from there, your probably cant compaire it to Grolsch itself
since they have many products lines and different recipies

Just like their value beans come from the people who make Heins (I was told by someone, not sure how true it is), it doesn't mean they're giving you the same thing.
It won't be exactly the same stuff, which means you should try it to see what it's like...just like every other beer.
I would imagine it's fairly nice if it's a premium one as supermarkets to tend to put a fair bit of effort into their own brand alcohols these days.

It honestly wouldnt surprise me, loads of different kinds of manufactures use this trick..
Lets say Grolsch 10 bottles (fictive number ofc) and they actually only sell 7, then they just ship out rest as some weird brand so they dont have a 100% loss on the last 3 bottles..

Thats just one idea that pops up in my head, other one could be thats its actually just more profit in only making Grolsch and shipping some of it off as some weird brand instead of actually making two kinds..

but im just guessing here ;)

I am pretty sure it would happen along the lines of what kreg says I think they do it so that they supply to all levels.
Abit like the way Volkswagon own Skoda not everyone can afford a Golf so put the skoda out aswell to cover the lower end of the market same car just in a different tin (apparently)

Someone once told me that all toothpastes for the UK are made in the same factories and just branded differently not sure how true that is though.

But it terms of beer, suck it and see I reckon when I lived with my bro we used to do alot of BBQs and aldi was are supermarket of choice for the beers we used to get a pack of each kind and there were some quality beers to be had :)

Does your aim improve while drinking and gaming? Then it's Grolsch :flirty:

Must say that over here the Aldi's don't sell Grolsch but Schultenbrau.
Grolsch is selled more in the "expensive" shops.

Reminds me of a Simpson's episode where they had all the varieties of Duff coming from the same pipe.
