Title: Just Ordered...

...one of these http://www.globalwin.com.tw/products/power...er/420w-p4.html (http://www.globalwin.com.tw/products/power/420w-p4.html). My PSU is driving me nuts with noise - my Geforce 5900 is quieter than it :(

nonononono! you want one of these (http://www.overclock.co.uk/customer/home.php?cat=372) kiddies for silence.

not only do they have variable speed fans, they also have a special lead that you plug into your case fans and it controls their speed too!

I have the 550w version and it rocks. Really quiet.

Judging from the post times I would guess you may have been about 39 minutes too late G-man

I'd be in terested to hear your feedback on how quiet it is in operation BlueBall....

The one I ordered also has variable speed fans and it can control up to 3 case fans as well. I did look at Antec but they don't publish noise figures! The one I ordered is rated at 22dB which is less than room noise, therefore I aint gonna hear it I reckon :-)

On yours Gandy has it got coming out of the PSU a three pin connector, exactly the same as ones used on cpu fans, but with the center wire not connected to anything? (i.e no 12volt line)

If so wtf is this for, i can't find it anywhere ?

To me it looks like a header for fan monitoring of the fans on the psu, but i'll be buggered if in gonna plug it onto the motherboard without knowing for sure first.

blue and black wire?

if so then yes. it's the PSU fan speed monitor. Shove it onto the relevant mobo pins.

PSU arrived today  :D

It has the following:

Main cable bundle to motherboard with ATX connector (shrouded neatly)

4pin optional power connector

Auxiliary power line (like old AT lines)

3 separate power lines: One has two large molex connectors (ideal for HDDs) and the other two each have a small molex (for floppy drive) and 4 large molex connectors.

A separate line with 2 SATA connectors (TL take note  :) )

3 separate fan connectors (large molex type) which will control fan speed.

The back of the PSU has a 3 position switch which I have set it to auto and it will adjust fan to keep case cool automatically. All leads are of a good length and would be fine in a full tower case.

I have noticed the following:

Since fitting the fan the noise has dropped dramatically from what I had with my old PSU. I can make it quieter still by setting the fan to low or medium but will leave it at auto just now till I am "comfortable" with it and have time to do a lot of temp monitoring. However, I can now hear the video card fan and the hard disk working  :(

System Board temp has dropped from 37C to 31C :D
The PSU temp has dropped from 48C to 39C :D
The ambient case temp has dropped from 45C to 37C  :D
The Video card temp has dropped from 50C to 43C  :D
The CPU temp has dropped from 49C to 40C  :D

Hope this is of interest, I'll post temps with fan at LOW and MED once I am bored enough to try it :-)

Sounds cool.

I'm shopping for a PSU at the moment, and the temp control for case fans sounds perfect as well (it solves another problem I was looking at).

Did you get a chance to measure it on Low / Medium as well?

Thanks!

On low it is completely silent as far as i can tell over the noise of everything else in the case :-)

On medium it is pretty quiet but temps on my machine do climb a bit - haven't got definitive figures yet as i got lazy and left it on auto - sorry. Here is some subjective assessment, on auto the air coming out of the back of the case is always cool. On medium it is no warmer than with my old PSU (possibly slightly cooler)
