Title: Recruit & Friend & Triple XP - Fastrack to L60
Post by: TeaLeaf on August 31, 2008, 10:55:42 AM
I am considering using the Recruit a Friend option on my account to create another character and use the triple XP bonus that my new character and the recruited new character would both benefit from to fastrack the new toons to L60.  The Recruit a Friend FAQ ia here (http://eu.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=30562).

It would suit someone looking to join the game for the first time and quickly catch up with the rest of the existing players (avoiding that slow grind to Level 60).

-or-

It would suit an existing Wow player who is looking to quickly get a new character or class to L60 to prepare for the expansion (afaiaa in this case you would need to buy a new copy of Wow for the new licence key, then when you get to L60 you would transfer the new character to your main account to use the TBC you already own).

Is anyone interested in this type of arrangement please let me know.

I've read the FAQ but still uncertain about how this works.

Someone with an account already, invites a friend to play. The new player gets a 10 day trial from the email. The new player then creates a level one character, and so does the original player. They both level to 60 with the triple xp boost. Then they could grant 30 levels each, to any of the original players characters?

 Is this right? :g:

All correct except the only new player can grant bonus levels to the existing player's toons.  It does not work the other way around.  Sheepy & I can confirm triple XP makes things go very very fast.

Jewelz, you can buy pre paid cards http://www.amazon.co.uk/World-Warcraft-Pre-paid-Game-Card/dp/B000BPCILI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1220220268&sr=8-1 although they are more expensive than paying by card on the internet.

Also, Lumi:

QuoteHow does this affect / stack with Rest State experience?
While you are partied with a linked recruit, any Rest State you have accumulated is not consumed. Only the tripled experience from the Recruit-A-Friend program is applied.

So just let me get my head around this, a friend takes my 10 day trial then upgrades. I invite him into a group of mine, being that i have a level 70 character will he just ding up to 60 or do i have to go back and help him with certain quests?

Existing player logs into Account Management as uses the 'Recruit a Friend' option to invite friend to a 10 day trial (using special authentication key).
Friend goes out and buys Wow (£9).
Existing player and friend both start L1 toons and level up together. (triple XP only applies when you same level and partied together).
Quest, kill, loot and watch the XP roll in.
As friend levels, he can grant bonus levels to the existing players other lower level toons.
Existing player gets a month free play time when Friend pays for his first month free play time.
Existing player gets a special mount when Friend pays for his first 2 months of play time.

IIRC it only works if a mob isnt trivial (grey'd out) so you can be a couple of levels higher / lower and still get the 3x XP

If you do the 10 day trial:
-you can only level to L10
-you get the triple xp during that period
-you cannot trade, mail or whisper people until you have a full account or you are on their friends list

If you do not buy the full version of the game then the referrer gets nothing.

If you buy the full version of the game then yes you can use game cards to pay for your game time.

Ok does the 10 day trial depend on the massive same download without the disks ?
i.e. can you skip the 10 day trial?
I have e mailed Twine an invite from Acct management and will send him a new Version of the Game too, well it will either work or not.

I don't think I make sense here.

on the plus side 'm lvl 58 now and I can get into outlands....:taz: :yahoo::D :boxing:

If someone gives you a copy of the Wow folder from their own install then yes it will work and save you the massive download.  You can; tplay the 10 day trial without the software, so either download it or get a copy from someone you know.

Having fun with this triple xp.  I have a rogue which I am levelling with Jewelz (which is L23) and a druid which I am levelling with Sheepy which is L29 and about to get his first mount!  Handed in some Deadmines quests yesterday and levelled twice whilst at the NPC!

Sounds like a good scheme. I mean with people wanting to hit 50+ as fast as possible to get DK, when WotLK comes out. Glad you're having fun, TL. ;D

Well, Sheepy and I reached L60 with our new toons last night with total time played amounting to a little over 2 days.  Both characters are now sat in Honor Hold ready to adventure further into Outlands.  The levelling process was incredibly speedy xp and we didn't even try to rush things.  The main issue with levelling so quickly is actually keeping up with training as you can often find you skip 8-10 levels of training whilst out questing.  Likewise gear lags well behind, Sheepy and I both finished L60 still wearing one item of L20 gear and a couple of L30 items each with the bulk from the L40s zones.  The gear really did not cause any issues at all and we had zero problems coping with any encounters.  We used TS whilst levelling to plan out each levelling session as we went along.  I would estimate that we spent about 36 hours levelling to L60 and the rest of the time we were online was actually spent levelling professions to keep pace with the zones we were moving through (e.g. Sheepy had to pwer level lock picking to keep up, I had to go back and level herballism several times to keep pace with the zone requirements).

From memory we went to the following zones:

-starting zone-
Westfall
Wetlands
Stranglethorn Vale
Dustwallow Marsh
Stranglethorn Vale
Tanaris
Un'Goro
Burning Steppes

We found we focused on quests with big XP and often quest series where average XP was boosted with one or two massive XP quest rewards at the end of the series.  An example would be the Onyxia chain which we started last night and got about 180,000xp from by the time we had reached the Drakisath element of the quest line.  We were pretty ruthless about dropping quests when they had been green for more than a level (the xp comes so quickly you end up out-levelling many quests and you only get single xp when the quest is considered low level to you).  Some zones we did very little in (like Tanaris), others like STV we did most quests, but it's all about picking out the big xp quests to maximise your triple xp reward.

One slight note which really helped us:  We only did 3 instances while levelling - but when we did do an instance we did it with L70 company for speed.  We only did Stockades, ZF and BRD though as quest xp is so much better than instance xp.  For these three instances Sheepy and I both logged a L70 toon and then put our lower level toon on follow, so the party was made up of 2 x L70 and our 2 x low level toons.  XP from the kills was was still remarkably good, but the main advantage was getting all the instance quests done in one quick run.  This gave a massive xp boost when we handed in all the instance quests in one go.  Last night's BRD run got us through all of the Onyxia chain (jailbreak! etc) and the fanny packs, attunement to the core, Incendius and the Pyron quests in about ninety minutes.

Recommended levelling addons:

Lightheaded (quest helper which imports wowdb.com notes into an ingame window to help info on the quests)
TomTom (satnav for your in-game experience - click on a maploc from the Lightheaded notes and it gives you a neat little arrow which points you towards your quest objective with a distance and ETA).

I have another toon in levelling with Jewelz and both are L43 atm.  Progress on these toons is also going pretty quick and with the experience of levelling with Sheepy I can say that L40 to L60 levels will zoom past as there are so many bigger questlines to choose from which give relatively huge xp rewards.

Blizzard's Recruit a Friend Scheme - highly recommended!

Awesome progress chaps. :yahoo:
I did wonder why there were 2 sheeps on line simultaneusly and managed to use the word omnipresent, which don't crop up day to day.
