One thing I can say: if 1.0.3 is not here within 6 months, I think that I will give up this project as well It simply must be out there before that.
So that means that at 221008 he will give up Netkar Pro if 1.03 is not released. Just a little over one month guys! Get a move on!

So, do you think he will make it? Saw your posts. The last one made him smile though. :D
He was asking for my point. It was a friendly reminder that if they don't get going he will also end up looking bad.
I really hope we'll see some development soon.. I think this sim has a tremendous potential!

Yes, Thanks. After my opology he sent me a PM and all is well....:)
What's the online nKp community like nowadays? Is anyone playing at all..? One of the big promises with 1.03 is improved online functionality. Maybe I'll have to buy it if it turns out to be good, 'cause the physics in the demo totally amaze me!

It's just about only GPC. (http://www.gpchampionship.com/) I tried to race there one season but was not good enough to get a spot on the 15 car grid. About 100 people was trying to race. Only 15 would get in. They where running servers with prequalification to pick the top 15. They tried to make it better by using 2 servers. I think I raced only once.
The feel is good but not up too iRacing standards, probably because of better tracks in iRacing. Also 3 (4) cars is not enough to make a big impact. But I will of cause try it when it is released.
As I have said before I try to get the best experience out of my sim racing as I can. I have spent 2 and a half in LFS, got Netcar when it was out, I raced a season in rFactor (Porsche). As it is now, iRacing is "it" for me. If Netkar really is good and takes off, I might change my mind.
Time will tell.
So you think the physics/feel is even better in iRacing than nKP? That is interesting indeed. I wish I could just try iRacing for a little while on a PC that's good enough to handle it. :/
But why is there only one server up if there are so many people who are interested in nKP? :g:

One man's 'perfect' is another man's 'meh' The truth is, as I see it, every simulation has got it right in
some departments. They've all got it wrong in
some other departments. One day a sim will come along and have it right in
ALL departments! Having said that, some people will still think it's wrong in some departments!

The netKar community is disillusioned with the broken promises and lack of communication by the developers. Most agree it's a very good sim which needs some flaws fixing. However 2 years and Kunos/Stefano practically admitting he had better things to do has alienated people. Therefore servers haven't been raised. I've run a nkp server and only Verner or L56 has turned up. So we return to where the racing is. :)

1. Yes, I think iRacing's feel is better than current 1.02 NetKar. By a good margin too. But as I said, I could be the superb tracks in iRacing that does that. The Radical is by far the best car in iRacing with the Skip Barber on a close second. The Mazda i cant get a grip on, but they say it will be updated next season. (in 2 weeks)
2. Netkar has so many issues (bugs) with online driving that most people is put off by it. Some bugs so bad it is astounding that its not fixed. Like when upgrading from 1.01 to 1.02 TWO years ago, the developer made new physics(tires) on the F3 car. It ruined it. It was not possible to loose traction in the rear. It is not fixed to this day. The FFord cars has a manual transmission. At certain times the engine cuts out when using a shifter. Very low frame rates unless you have a superb rig. Jumping cars. Warping, Cars left on track if driver leaves... I could go on. You really need to be a fanboy to race it in 1.02 state. (And that state leaves just one usable car, the F2000)
I consider iRacing to be in the state that LFS was 1 year ago, but with even a better feel. iRacing has the momentum. Its like a tsunami. New updates, cars and tracks is added almost weekly. It's got to be a winner in the long run.
NetKar could gain a great deal of followers if it works as intended. And some content is added. The fact that iRacing does not make it possible for teams/friends to race together is very off putting for some. Netkar has this local server possibility (like LFS) so it would make a great step from LFS to something better if one would prefere not going the iRacing route.
Thank you both for your interesting replies. :)
I've been playing the nKP demo a lot today. After I realised you can press "H" to turn off some of the more fancy graphics it's running smoothly at 60FPS at 1920x1200 with 16xAF (I think anisotropic filtering is very important in racing games!). And I have to say, the force feedback in this game is, in my opinion, far better than in LFS. It's so easy to tell what the car is doing and when you're about to loose grip, which enables me to drive on the border. In LFS I'm driving much based on sound, actually (hearing the tires scrubbing before they let go) and not so much by feel, while in nKP it's opposite. I particularly like how the steering gets lighter when you're pushing too hard in wide, fast corners. How does iRacing feel in that regard?
If only I had £1000 to spare I'd buy a new PC right away with a year's subsciption to iRacing. I'm getting curious about that game.. but as it is, I think I'll wait for the nKP v.1.03, which will have an online demo. Maybe that will keep me satisfied for the time being. :)

Seems like he took his promise seriously..

Well, it is now October 22nd 2008, 10:16CET and netKar PRO 1.0.3 is not out yet.
Therefore I decided to do what I said. I think I will give up the project right now. I don't know what I will do from now on. See you around in the future... maybe.
Dunno what to make of that.. :crying:
What you hear is the death knell of netKar Pro. Shame, there was so much promise in that sim. So; LFS still rules! :D
Now, where can I put another chicane?
Don't even think about it!
Stefano is unbelievable! (http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?p=3911015#post3911015) :ranting2: With this poxy patch just about to be released and it is acknowledged as being ready, he decides not to release it until he comes back from some jaunt! this leaves Jaap once more having to defend the ramparts!

Poor Jaap. I think he feels pretty helpless in this situation. Imagine having to deal with someone like Stefano.. Well, I guess two more weeks won't really matter considering people have been waiting for two
years already. ;)
Hey, I'm an "unfortunate noise" now. Should I take that personally..? :P
Quote from: Doorman;248905this leaves Jaap once more having to defend the ramparts!
Yeah. And after reading his first message I rushed out to get "my popcorn", but when I came back 30 minutes later the film was already over.
Oh well. We hopefully get the iRacing update one of these days. So its no big loss. I look forward to the trucks.
In the mean time we can enjoy the FZ5 on "nearly an oval".

The thing is, its not ready, take my word for it :) The main stuff has been addressed but there are still far to many small bugs that need ironing out. I'm pleased it isn't being released yet because it really would be the end if it was.

I'm inclined to believe you, but why is Jaap and others saying it's ready? That would seem to be setting themselves up for another kicking.

I don't know. Jaaps not stupid, he must know it's not ready yet. The latest release which we got mid week has a 5 page bugs thread.
I hope they see sense and don't release it for a month or so. It needs to be as close to perfect as possible otherwise it's going to get panned.
Still, we did some testing last night and it does feel great. I still prefer it to iRacing, feeling wise. (plus it has the bonus of flatspots and brake heat, hopefully both will make the final release) If only it had laser scanned tracks to race on i think a lot of people would agree.

That post gives me more cause for being positive about nKP than anything in the nKP forum. A little honesty goes a long way in my book. :thumbsup2:

We'll it's only
my opinion, but i feel it's a far more realistic view of the current situation.
..and just to make it clear, my thought on the feeling of nKpro in comparison to iRacing is based on the F2000/FTarget and the formula Mazda.
nKpro is always going to feel a little less 'lively' due to iRacings fantastic track modelling.

Yes the new Formula Mazda is very fun to drive.
Quote from: vobler;249417Yes the new Formula Mazda is very fun to drive.
Not as much fun as the winged SS cars in nKPro though IMHO, though the Mazda on the ovals was some of the best sim racing fun i've had in years :)

Wow.. if even you find the ovals fun, I guess I will have to try it some day too! Being prejudiced is never a good thing, but I must admit I've been prejudiced against oval racing in general.

I never really got into oval racing before, but I've been absolutely loving it in iRacing. Its certainly changed my opinion. There's something extremely sphincter puckering about racing in a big pack of cars on an oval that you just don't get in road racing. :racing::ohmy:

Me too. I tied the Trucks yesterday. What a blast. 600 hp and over 300kph in a draft. Even more fun than the small/medium ovals in the legend and late model. (Did not try the Mazda last week)
I had one terrible and one good race. The terrible race was due to yellows and that I got a penalty that I could not clear. (Nim in iRacing says it is a bug) (Best lap though; 47.7 on Daytona)
The other one was much better, only two caution periods and lots and lots of close fighting. Those cars are a blast, honestly!

You say winged carS. There are only one usable winged car in NKP. The FTarget is flawed (tires) . Infact there is only one car in NKP. Because the FF's are also flawed (shifter).

The FTarget is fine with the 1.01 tires fix. It was my weapon of choice for last seasons GPC championship.
I don't use a shifter so i have no problem with the FF's. They are absolutely fine with paddles/sequential stick, so that's 4 working cars for me.
I've taken the bait. I always will :P

Hmmm interesting. You should join us for the XRT Stock Cup then (http://www.lfs-lota.net/index.php?action=rlm_league;sa=series;id=35)! :woot2:
Also dMR should have a car in it as well!! Or a few cars:D
