While the minimum system requirements for the Windows version of GTA IV are still a mystery, the recommended requirements are yours for the studying. Recommended operating system? Windows XP SP2, natch. For the hard stuff, make the jump.
Processor: Dual core processor (Intel Pentium D or better)
RAM: 2GB
Hard Drive: 18GB free hard disk space
Video Card: 512MB Direct3D 10 compatible video card or Direct3D 9 card compatible with Shader
Drive: DVD-ROM dual-layer drive
I am looking forward to this. I completed it on the Xbox but must say I was hoping they'd work their magic on the graphics a little for the PC version and that's what they're doing. The game should look great and judging by these specs isn't too demanding.

Not quite "demanding" but 18GB of space is quite extreme? But okay, I've been unable to play the latest games on my ZX spectrum-rated PC so might be out of touch.
Crap, new specs out;
Minimum System Requirements

* Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8Ghz, AMD Athlon X2 64 2.4Ghz
* Memory: 1.5GB, 16GB Free Hard Drive Space

I bet most of that is for music.
I am looking forward to this although I'm only half way through San Andreas ;)

Any game with DX10 requires Vista. I think both those cards are DX10. The HDD requirements are a little highm but I'm not letting it put me off. Depending on what compression they use it looks like that is going to be one very full dvd. Or are they starting to use 2 dvds for ordinary games now.

I know but I have XP still.
Hopefully MODders can make it so it's for XP aswell, I think they did that before with a game.
As for the bigger games get, there's a few new sort of DVD's out but not alot of people have that on allready.
I could think of the game having to be installed like when you had to install severall CD's or that they just let you download the game for an install.
Pretty stupid that some games require Vista as Windows 7 is soon here, probably end of next year.. feels like Vista is only based on money making, DX10 being only usefull thing in it.
And quite extreme that 16GB, did they forgot optimization ? But looking good atleast, should be worth the money. I need to rob a bank or something to keep up with all the new games coming out!
Windows 7 has been released to developers so we could see vista fade away before Christmas or after Christmas so the resellers such as dell and hp are able to use up existing licenses on machines before the change over.
I was having a quick chat with spudgun at the lan and both he and I are looking forward to the pc release of grand theft auto however, I am as he suggested going to invest in an usb xbox controller to play the game with.
I think i have to buy my self a new pc for this game.
:crying:

Nope. The 7900 is definitely only a DX9 capable card, and I *believe* the same is true for the X1900... I wonder how much MS paid them to make it Vista only...

Was it the 8000 series and the HD range that was the (Nvidia and ATi respectively) that first went DX10?
I don't know how I missed the /XP aswell.
Yup, 8000 series from nvidia certainly. Not sure about the ATi cards as to which was first.

There's for a certain brother not managable to get the latest update on XP :whistle:
And yes, I did misread...Well noticed Mike
ya i hate vista thank god that MS are making Windows 7
It seem's as though you can get grand theft auto 4 and a free version of vice city for a friend for $39.99 on steam as a pre purchase deal. This looks tempting and is out for december 3rd.
I was worried it would be $50...so I'd have to buy it in the shops...but at $40 I'm buying it on steam, and I can give the copy of vice city to my housemate because I already have it and it lets you gift it.
