Title: Are some maps just plain bad?
Post by: FBG on August 09, 2002, 09:19:25 AM
Im not talking about playability more of the fact that on some maps, such as de_torn, the Powerpoint effect makes it unplayable.

Powerpoint effect = 2fps

I dont see how this can primarily be an effect of bad ping because its only on this particular map that its sucks, all the other maps run without a hitch.

I also get the same problem on one or two other maps, once again only these specific maps, everysingle time.

Could this be down to my graphics card? or just a plain badly designed map?

ps, if it weren't for the 2fps i actually quite like these maps.

never had a performance problem with any maps in CS, and I use an old geforce2 ultra card.

What card have you got?

well i have a matroz g400 dual monitor affair, not exactly built for gaming in know, but its just the fact it only suffers on that particualr map, and maybe one or two others and none of the other maps.

Im begining to think its the sounds used, cos quite often it'll start echoing like a twat.

FPS and ping are totally unrelated.  It has nothing to do with if you are on a 56k or not.

I use an S3 trio + voodoo2 PCI so i have the worst graphics card out of everyone.  I have noticed poor performance on some of the new maps.  I suspect this is because system specs have come on since the release of CS and so designers include more effects and bigger, more complex and a wider range of textures.

What system spec do you currently have?  If it is not very good then an upgrade may well fix the problem.  Alternatively, learn how to piss around with the config files so that you can reduce graphical quality and detail in favour of performance.  My CS experience looks like s**t but I only get very low FPS when there is smoke involved.
