So I get online to play CoD for the first time with a few on the server and I get connections errors and drop and now I can't rejoin because 'key code in use'. I stopped and restarted the game and messed about with some custom classes to waste some time and still can't get on!! :ranting2:

Try joining a different server then disconnect and join ours - might work?
How did you buy the game?
Otherwise you can return it and get another copy.
If you do a reinstall then, make sure you've copied your profiles somewhere.
i have sometimes this message too but because another boy uses shame key with me.:sad:
Stopping and restarting the game, trying again and failing, and then rebooting the PC seems to do it. Finally got back in and now I'm an honorary shoe-shine boy with matching brushes and the tin of black polish! Working my way up to the cloth and brown polish now. :boxing:
Snooks, I had this happen to me last night :ranting2:. Waiting about ten minutes (or a map change) seemed to do the trick. I think the key server must only check the keys on map start for the client, so if you lose connection and don't release the key (i.e. by dropping out normally) it gets itself confused
i had this for the first time last night, i was kicked out the game (punkbuster) i then re installed punkbuster, went to go back into the game and had the message keycode in use!!, after about 5mins i tried again and it was fine?:g:
Make sure you have that special Punkbuster program running instead of Punkbuster through the game. This might solve it aswell.
A reboot usually solves this problem for me at least.
This happened to me and after doing some research the following works for me.
1. Create your own server.
2. Join it, then leave it.
3. Join a game as normal.
ironically this happened to me tonight - and I couldnt get back on - I like vista but seem to be getting little niggly issues :eyebrow:
I too have that problem (pretty much every night) this happens where my connection suddenly drops, when i exit and rejoin, it does not see the server, and if i try to connect anyway, i get the count of 10 (awaiting connection counter) and fails, it sees the other servers fine.
so I then have to switch off the pc, reboot, trys to connect and then i get the key in use, and after 2 reboots, same problem :ranting2:
I think what Target said is right, it still thinks your connected somehow (even though your name is not on the list), and you have to wait till the next map is loaded before you can connect :sad:

After reading on the net, its a common issue - I tried the suggestion of creating your own server, joining it and leaving - didn't work for me.
Basically I left it for 45 mins (very frustrating when you've been looking forward to some dMw cod action) and came back and immediately got on.
Same as Snokio it happened because on start of a new round, new map loaded and then the game hung - so I alt-tabbed and quit but the server still thinks your connected.

Me & Tox got disco'd tonight (happens in cod when our phone rings:blink:)
I tried everything suggested in this thread except a reboot.
As soon as the mapchanged we both got back in.
so patience is what is needed:)
Not had the problem yet myself. But if I do get it I now know what to do!!
