grim ,

I was thinking of getting myself a UPS on those sort of occasions, saw one in maplins not long ago, but doubt it would last for very long :g:

21:15 seems like a precise time! was this a planned event?

I have a UPS on my PC and Server/NAS but I wouldn't expect to get more than 5 mins out of them - it allows you to do a graceful shutdown and keeps the wer clean but not much more.

The answer machine I got through to said it would be about 9:15 when power would be restored.

UPS allow for 5-15 min on a full charge depending on model and load. The ones we have at work are expected to last 10 min at the consumption we have.

And hope you got your power back on time BB

Well considering we are on the plants electricity nett and our normal outage lasts just under 15 seconds i suppose it is more then sufficient for whats being demanded most of the time. Depends on how critical the server is and how much you willing to pay.

 You can't be loading them that much then. We have the same kit in our racks, or the 5kva equivalents where we've got *really* hefty kit, and most of them run for about 15 mins on full (new) batteries. A single Foundry BigIron RX-4 (our building [i.e. semi-core] routing/switching hardware) gets one all to itself, and that'll drain it in 15 mins no probs.

four servers and our phone system (tiny useage) so yeah, they're not loaded that much. We used to have double the amount of equipment on there as we had another company linked in with our systems but they went under a few years ago so I have a glut of servers doing nothing.
