Title: Server Status
Post by: Benny on November 19, 2008, 08:54:49 PM
We need a one stop view for all our servers showing status.
I'm sick of looking for you lot, stop hiding when I have free time.

Ah well, back to Pro Evo then.

if anyone runs vista go to sidebar and gadgets and click add more gadgets.
the standard list of gadgets comes up with a search bar above

type steam into that and it has a steam favorites gadget, this looks at you steam favorite servers folder and interigates those servers and display the server name, map, and players on it as a gadget

best thing about it is you dont need to fire up steam:D

I use HLSW for COD, CSS, Insurgency and L4D

The only thing missing then is LFS

Found a couple one you have to pay for per person but this one looks ok seem to cover all the bases.

http://www.greycube.com/site/download.php

I downloaded it it a PHP based one and there is a shead load of help for getting it started.

They are also looking in to doing LFS servers as well.

an example of it in action on the left hand side.

Is 'All Seeing Eye' still used and would it be able to give server status?  Not sure myself, it's been a while since I used it.

All so blinkered......where are our resident code monkeys?

Think bigger, think server status icons like the old days in the side menu bar and on the front page. Advertise to all who is playing where on our servers, think of the publics browsing around and seeing, 'lo the COD4 server is busy, I may well pop on there and try these dMw fellas out'.

It's all about the ideas gents.

Oh, looky, someone has done it in PHP here  (http://www.williamlang.net/page.php?al=cod4serverstatusdemo) - CoD4
and here  (http://www.phpclasses.org/browse/package/2149.html)for CS....

Unfortunately I know nadda about PHP..or anything else like that.

Hmmmm :g:

The thing is, for the most part our servers are empty. Do we really want to show the world this? We all know why they're only busy at certain times and we also know how to find out if anyone's playing so why advertise a bunch of empty servers?

I don't think the advertisement is needed, can't it just show to members ?
I think the idea is nice, one place where you could see what is happening on all the servers :)

I'm not sure if I get it, but you are looking for a program that shows you all the dmw servers and whos on etc?
I use gametracker, where I can add css, bf, cod, insurgency etc etc.
Just add the IP and the name of the game, and viola! you get to see everyone thats on.
But then again, I might be misunderstanding this :D

Nice point Oldie....

What I guess I'm asking is that when I log in to the forum I can immeadiately see in a side box who is on all of our servers and make a choice as to wher eI go withouth having to post and hunt.

(maybe a Charlie perk to get around the empty server piece)

A good idea to have where we currently have the server list but as mentioned above just for registered/logged in users?

It's worth saying this again for the umpteenth time ...

If we all only join a server if there's somebody else on it then our servers would be empty all the time. So use a forum post or Steam invites but get on the server and kick a game off.

I agree and did join CoD4 for a short period yesterday(or the day before), only to realise you were all insurging. I have no issue with joining empty, but I'm generally easy to play anything as long as it's with you crazy kids. So given the choice of joining 5 friends (and I use the term loosely) on a low number game of COD or hanging around on my own on the hook.....I'll choose the CoD, I just want to be able to make that choice without jumping in and out of games and steam chat.

Then HLSW will show you the state of play on all our servers apart from LFS.

:D

Shall we get a room together? We can apply circular logic to each other and shout touche now and then. (added smilie to convey my jovial mood and ensure now miscostruation or somesuch is achieved)

I'm inherently lazy. My HLSW is just another app. As is the CoD4 rcon thing and the other junk I have running. I always follow the same routine. Computer, chrome, dmw page, game.

No is fine if that's the answer.

I don't want to misconstrue your meaning but what do you mean?  <<< note more smileys :D

The somesuch indicated I knew it was a typo. I was intending to work in a menustration joke, but ran out of steam. No CounterStrike pun intended.
