Title: Badges - How To
Post by: Gandalf on December 08, 2008, 01:39:19 PM
Firstly, you will need to click on the 'Mod' link as indicated below.

This will open up the Moderator Control Panel as indicated. Now you need to click the 'Give award to user' link as indicated below.

Now you need to find the award to give. In the example below we are going to give the 'Active dMr racers' award. To do this we simply click the 'Give award to user' link as indicated below.

We now have a form open that will enable us to give the award. At the top of the page it will show the selected award to ensure that the correct link was clicked. Fill out the User Name (Must be accurate) Or if known, the Userid (Useful for those difficult to spell User Names). One or the other is all that is required. In the example below there is my name in the User Name field.

There is also an 'Issue reason' field. Self explanitory here and what is entered here will show up in the PM that is sent to the user and on their personal awards tab in their profile.

Leave the checkboxes as they are and click Save. You have now awarded some lucky person with an award!

Firstly, you've all done an excellent job, so my thanks to you all for the effort put into finding the right solution to allow us to implement what we wanted for the community.  Has the subscription system also checked out ok?

As far as the tags go, then yes I'm happy with it and let's go Live with it asap.

Forum admin badges (red) posted. Basically as I understand it they go to anyone with forum admin status.

No green forum badges yet. That still needs some discussion in another thread

I'll start on the LAN ones tonight.

Do we make Delanvital a moderator so he can award the folding badges? (Or if not acceptable, we'll have to tell him to tell us who to award them to.) If yes, can someone do it. I'm not sure bit I think DuVeL is also mod of that section so he may need it too????

thanks

Yep he is a moderator. So he should be able to see the link like the Gaming Section Heads. I'm sure Gandy added him as well

One thing Smilo pointed out yesterday is that obviously Section Heads can award all the badges in theory and to please make sure they only award the badges for their own section ().

They are all logged so you'll be spotted should you start flogging badges on the side :boxing:

If a mistake is made, please tell Smilo and he'll reverse it.

Thanks

Nope - no in vb he isn't. Can you want to add him as a moderator ?

He'll also need a copy of the 'how to award' post above as he can't see this section.

Best coming from you

It's too early to go live IMHO.

There's nothing to say how the Section Head will determine who gets their badge or indeed when it may be removed. We need to make sure that the criteria has some common ground i.e. the amount of time elapsed before a badge is awarded. We need an awards section that clearly brings all this together. We need to pre-empt the raft of questions that this will generate and make sure that it's covered in the documentation (I'm not prepared to have another week of answering the same question over and over again). We need the subscription process ready.

And that's just off the top of my head. There will be others.

I've had a squint and Yep he is moderator of 'Folding' as well as 'Laugh I nearly started' and 'Look what I found on the internet'

He's also able to assign icons in the same way the gaming section heads can. Bearing in mind Oldies post I'll hold off giving him access to the howto.

We need the ground rules Oldie has asked for in place first. I believe that would be down to whoever looks after Work Package 2 :norty:

Oldie, would it be wise to turn off the award feature till we're all ready to go?

I've had a very tiresome day at the hospital outpatients dept and I'm still catching up on the posts made late last night and today.

Who has access to the awards system then? If it's easy to turn off then please do. I can hear the screaming already ... "Where's my badge? He's got his. Where's mine?"

Those able to award badges

Oldbloke
Tealeaf
Gandalf
smilodon
Penfold
Blueball

all by virtue of their admin status

Armitage
Sheepy
Whitey
Doorman
Delanvital

all by virtue of their access to the award system (Gandy hack)

Turning on and off access is as easy as clicking on a radio button for each member.

Maybe if the Section Heads could just hold fire on awarding any badges till we have the last bits in place and an agreed format for awarding what to who etc. as per oldblokes comments? Cheers

Blueball, you also have access through your admin control panel. I don't think we added the award link in the Moderator panel to any of the Admins. It was just for the Section Heads who don't have the administrator panel. You may find there is a bit more functionality through the admin panel?

It's in the phrase manager;  Standard Phrase: award_pm (id: 92241)

However, you have to be aware of the syntax and variables so if you want to come up with some text I can change it for you.

welcome Mr Dyson.

Smilo will sort you out with permissions. You need moderator access to do the awards. However we do actually need to add the awards to the system first. Are they done? I thought Zoots was going to amend them?? Either way, give me a shout when they're ready and I'll upload them so you can dish 'em out.

I can see the mod, but someone needs to change my profile to allow the award piece. Bottom left of my profile I think. I can see the option but can't save any changes I make.

Need to change my email too.....should be james.dyson@uk.clara.net

He needs mod access to any one forum. Not the groups which are currently unused and there is also a flag at the bottom of the User Profile page in the Admin CP (Invisible to anyone other than admins) called Award System Manager. This needs to be Yes.

This was done to stop all moderators accessing the system as it is only for section heads.

Quote from: Benny;261321Thankyou sire.

Sorry to hijack your thread ...

You will need to come up with an ingame tag for the people you award badges to. For example, if you decide to go with dMw then it will need something to make it unique i.e. dMw^Benny

Badges - as well as the red (admin) and green (player) you have the option of a triallist stage with a badge to go with it. Just ask Zoot to knock you one up along the lines of the CSS and COD ones.

Admins - you have a forum section for your game admins. Please keep a list of the current L4D admins somewhere in there.

Hello and welcome :)

I've had a look and am not sure why not. I think your permissions are correct? Anyway perhaps Gandy/Whitey/Smilo could have a look and check.

I haven't actually done the red and green arma badges as yet but will try to do so this afternoon.

Follow the process as above and then take a look at the last picture in Gandalf's first post.  At the very bottom it lists 'Users who already have the Award', with a tickbox which can be selected alongside their name and then a 'Remove' button.
