Hey guys, I just got back at work and a new computer is installed at my workplace;
NVIDIA GeForce 8500GT
Intel Core Quad CPU Q6700 @2.66 GHz
There's 2 of them here at work so I want to instal the Quad Core Folding.
Any suggestions/tips?
Can't that graphics card do GPU folding ?
I think it is alot faster than quadcore folding.

No idea but remember it's a workcomputer.
Let me know, back at home my comp has an 8800GTS OC2 onboard so if that could help me fold faster?
Any suggestions are welcome.
install 4 instances of f@h in diff folders
configure them all
then you should be able to set the processor affinity of each one to a different core
/he said hoping that instructions will work?

Kreg did made hole thread bout gpu folding..
Using a Nvidia 9800GT Card to fold and its so fast as to be unbelievable. Definitely the way to go. The software has been trouble free.

You fold average 389 / 24h, what do fold with ?
I fold with 8800GTS and if I run it 24h I get about 5k, and while playing it is turned off to max the performance, still got like 3k 24h average.
Which software Lameduck?
I've been checking older threads;

Seems we need to have this forumpart a tad cleaned up. Took me a few pages to find them.
EDIT 4 LEx, is that GPU-folder?
Quote from: DuVeL;254312EDIT 4 LEx, is that GPU-folder?
Yeah I'm running GPU-folding.
Just go to F@H home site (which is down atm) and select download page.
I think it should find you a suitable folding client, or just select the GPU client.
I have a quad core and an 8800GT. I say, go for the GPU-folding client, it beats four instances in no time. One instance of GPU-folding is up to 40x faster than one core. I get around 1000 points per day on an 8800GT stock.
However, if you fancy, then go for the SMP client, instead of four instances. It gives you a bonus for bothering. Just ignore the Deino version, unless you are looking for a bit of trouble. I got it running, bit takes an effort. Go for the standard version.
Catch me on MSN mate, if you want a hand. If you can get than 8800 card running, it is well worth it!

Got a link Delan?
My foldingunit on my homePC is ready in 45 minutes so after that I'm going to install the GPU one here.

Strange, from here the folding site will not respond. However, go to folding site - folding.stanford.edu, then click download, then click "high performance and GPU clients" or something like that, then find the GPU clients (there are two) and take the non-deino smp thing.
I get a SUEXEC error when trying to access folding site?
I installed the GPU-one, where to see the teamnumber and such and edit it?

IIRC correctly, that client is only out in the tray version. So, you should have a fah-icon in the tray?
Nope, but I found where to add the teamnumber and such
Going to restart my comp.
EDIT; Restart worked and after the restart it popped up asking for the teamnumber and such.

Okay. Seems the Deino SMP I use, is a bit different in setup. Good to know :)
It's on my taskbar down on the right now aswell.
Darn that seems to fold fast.
First proteine will be folded in 3 hours from now. :blink:

You have obviously downloaded the software now but for the benefit of others with Nvidia Cards (8 series & above) the URL is:-

I'm using v6.20r1, but there is a newer version.
The only advice I can add, is NOT to use the display link, as its not working properly and Stanford warn you about.
60,000+ points in November :)
Installed @ home and now @ work.
It seems the other computer is not up and running yet so when it is I'll install F@H (F@H).
EDIT; GPU one doesn't seem to work for this comp so I'm going to try the multiple one.

You mean the GPU System tray client ? As I get blue screens from the 6.23 version. Just need to get back to the old one.
Now I got the 6.23 to work somehow, but it just spins the proteine around on black backround and does nothing.
Where could I find the old 6.20 client ?
For the workcomputer;
Okay, I have to choose between;
Windows SMP 5.92 beta client (for Deino MPI) 5.92
and
Windows SMP 5.91 beta client (for MPICH) 5.91
Which one is best and easiest to install?

Try the MPICH. The reason you get a folding bonus from using these clients is because Stanford know they take more effort to get working. But, basically, when it is set up, there is not much else to do :)
The Deino is a bit more stable and possibly a weeeeee bit faster than the MPICH. However, it requires a bit more setup.
Oh and BTW: STay away from the 5.9x versions! Get the 6.2x version. Get them here (http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther)
Mhmm, I installed Microsoft.net Framwork 2.0 as I needed this according to; http://folding.stanford.edu/English/FAQ-SMP-WinInstall
Then I use the fah-SMP-591.exe and it gives me an error;
QuoteNote: Please read the license agreement . Furtehr use of this software requires that you have read and accepted this agreement.
mpieexec doesn't get recognised as an intern or extern assignment, program or batchfile,
[09:58:03] Error running mpiexec. Please check your configuration and re-run install.bat if necessary
You and accept allready when you download the file right?

Try with the 6.2x version?
Quote from: delanvital;254376Try with the 6.2x version?
Tryed that one also but it didn't do anything unless I started it manually.
Sorry for all the questions but I want it to click and work. Might just install the normal folding again otherwise...

With the Deino thing I just unzipped all into a folder, ran install.bat and followed the instructions from the download site, and it basically worked from there, besides an issue with Deino not detecting my cores (which I solved). You could try that instead?
If you want to install the normal one, just remember to make one folder with fah in it, for each core you have, and then use different machine IDs when you install.
