Right its done. Black adder now has 193.110.88.20 which will remain for the games servers, and now it has 193.110.88.19 which everying else runs on including web, mail and ftp.
Big thanks to TL for sorting a nice 3com which is used for the games traffic.
What changes does this me to me?
ANSWER: none..... IF your using the domain names when hooking up to the server.
For the games servers you can still use 193.110.88.20 or BETTER still homer.deadmen.co.uk or baldric.deadmen.co.uk.
For web,smtp,pop3 and ftp use their respective FQDNs which now point to 193.110.88.19 IE //www.deadmen.co.uk and forum.deadmen.co.uk now point to 193.110.88.19 in the DNS.... so does ftp.deadmen.co.uk, smtp.deadmen.co.uk and pop3.deadmen.co.uk
So thats the way it is, blackadder now has seperate nics for games traffic meaning the best possible performance, including £40 worth of catalyst switch ports so you'd all better damn like it!

slight cockup. The linux kernel did not handle having two nics bound to the same netblock in a fashion that I expected. In short all traffic for both IPs is still going over the same nic :x
So, later on I will be assigning a different IP to the new nic from a different netblock that Crosswired Ltd uses.
Sit tight, there should be no difference to the end users apart from perhaps an hour or two of DNS "hows-ya-father" when its updated to reflect the new new IP address for the new nic :D
Will prob have another attempt at this second nic thing on blackadder. There may be some dns upset for a little while when the change is made.
Thats it! debian sucks ass!! I give up on this whole second nic thing, damn pile o shit.
I can get one nic working, or the other one. When a nic is not working it works fine on the local lan but any traffic coming in over the routers is ignored!!!!!
and yes before anyone asks the routes were set just fine.
TANGO
Did you set the routers properly??? :D
are you dissing my authoratay?! :x

Maybe it's time to take an image of the HDD (for backup purposes) and try to install the newer RedHat kernel?

Ooh, now *that* is a challenge. Duel at sunrise, Doggers v Oldbloke. stand back to back, take 10 paces each on my mark and then turn and install as quickly as you can

As albert said, debian is the distro for disturbed people. You gotta be mad to understand it :-)
Debian is fine for just running a pretty secure server, serving CS.

Why not just fdisk it and feck it up properly without the 2 hour wait?
:splat:
