I've been unable to access the Virgin Mobile site for a few days.
Could someone who is on BT try it please?
http://www.virginmobile.com/vm/home.do
Ping fails too (resolves to 129.35.68.230)
Tracert gets as far as 129.35.67.130 then times out.
It appears there is a sale on at the moment (a few actually).....
it seems ok from here though
I'm with BT and it's fine for me.
No problem here. Maybe they know you work for the opposition?

It's ok for me and I'm a Virgin customer
Works for me. I'm connected on a BT line...but through Nildram. Site took a while to load. Might be bad hosting/getting too much traffic.
I am on BT with Zen using open DNS and got there no probs!
Still nothing for me.
Any suggestions?
Works fine for me.
im on Virgin Broadband.

Possibly your 'node' (ISP) has some DNS problems? Ask a neighbour who is on same ISP as you to also check.

Try changing your DNS servers?
Try OpenDNS or Virgin Medias own DNS servers:
OpenDNS:
https://www.opendns.com/smb/start
VirginDNS:
Primary DNS Server : 62.31.64.39
Secondary DNS Server : 62.31.112.39

Thanks for the tip, BB but still no joy.
Can others ping and tracert to //www.virginmobile.com or is it blocked?

I cannot tracert to //www.virginmobile.com as the destination address is blocked. However, I can enter it in a browser and I arrive at a portal asking me to choose my country location which then takes me to the relevant website (http://www.virginmobile.com/vm/home.do)
How is your DNS resolved at home? Does your router provide DNS or does a home server provide DNS.
You can always try "ipconfig /flushdns" on your PC to see if it is a local cache issue. Failing that I would try rebooting my router or clearing the cached lookups on your server.
I get exactly the same results as you from the ping and Tracert but the website opens fine.
On Be unlimited (LLU) here .
More info ....
I realised that this started happening when I switched to NOD32 :g:
So I disabled the NOD32 firewall and now I can get to the site using Firefox but not with IE. I switched the firewall on again and can still connect with Firefox (couldn't before) but still not with IE.
I tried adding http://www.virginmobile.co.uk/ to IE's trusted sites and still can't connect. :frusty:

Add //www.virginmobile.com as well because //www.virginmobile.co.uk redirects to //www.virginmobile.com

Woulod IE be blocking it via it's Phishing Filter (Tools//Phishing Filter) ?

It's turned off but thanks for the suggestion.
TBH I'm happy that I can get to it using FF so let's stop tearing hair and just accept it's an IE thing. :)
Thanks again for the help and advice.
IE-Tools-internet options-advanced tab
Scroll to "browsing"-untick the box next to "enable third party browser extensions"-apply-close & restart IE
After that I would consider myself stumped---
EDIT: try Google Chrome
Maybe the site got added to NOD block list by mistake?

Nope. Not that either.
Now you're just being difficult! :narnar:
Might want to check your
system32\drivers\etc\
hosts and lmhosts file?
Just a random thought.
Can you get to it by IP instead of domain name?

Just searched for virginmobile and found a couple in a list of the usual dodgy named sites.
So I removed them ... rebooted ... still the same

No. But I see that as more of therapy for me than a fix for the problem :D
Are you sure it's not a PBCAK error? :g:

Not that but might be a ID10T :D
As a wild card i had a router that would stop/ block traffic to and fro certain sites. Anyway the hard reset button had broken and gave I up in the end. The websites being blocking were google and microsoft.
Anyway, is there a possibly your router is doing this? Maybe a hard reset could be an idea?

But it works in FF. It's just IE that blocks it.
