Title: Updating Clients
Post by: Lee on January 03, 2009, 05:33:06 PM
I'm running two quite old CPU clients and am wondering if there's any reason to update them (are they more efficient for example), and if so whether this is an easy process. Do I need to input details again or will it simply update without any further adjustments?

I know the console version checks for updates every time it is started.  The GUI version doesn't then?

I have the console version but it hasn't updated, it's still only version 5.02. :g:

I wouldn't like to say as I'm not one of the experts but visiting the foldling forums might help?

The console versions do not update. You have to do that manually. I strongly advise you to upgrade. For the following reasons:

- The older clients work slightly different and are assigned different WUs. The amount of WUs will, eventually, be limited for these clients. So, get a v6 client since you have to upgrade sooner or later anyway. 5.02 is also really old.

- Version 6 is more stable.

You might want to consider running a beta client, as these are just about as stable as the regular v6 clients, but are rewarded with a small bonus in points, since they can be a bit more complicated to get running (altho the bonus is rather small). Note: This also goes for running the SMP-version for multi-core processors - there is also a small reward - and avoiding the Deino version, is rather easy to install. PM me if you want details :)

It doesn't update?

How have I seen it downloading a new core then? Or am I seeing something different?

the client and core are different things, client is updated manually, but the core is updated sometimes automaticly, but you can also force a update by deleting the FahCoreXX_exe file (xx representing version number)

Thanks for the help guys, so I guess I should just download the latest and overwrite the current install?

just download the latest client, and install it on top of the old if possible, this ensures that your current WU in work wont be deleted and the settings will be automaticly loaded into the new client version

All done, I noticed it said you should delete the old console exe file, so I removed this and extracted the new exe into the old folder, this way it kept my settings.
