Here's hoping it doesn't have the same issues with my Logitech mouse that the original FEAR has :crying:I loved that game. Well, the first and last quarters at least. The middle bit was kinda samey and went on too long.

That did suck but it was easy enough to fix, but I doubt they'll do that again.

Please tell me how. I spent ages googling for fixes, and nothing I tried worked for longer than 15 mins or so.

It took me a while to figure it out too, hopefully you haven't tried this so it's the solution.

Go to device manager (Ctrl + R then type in devmgmt.msc and press enter), then try disabling all of the Human Interface Devices by right-clicking each of them then selecting disable. Unfortunately this will disable some mouse/keyboard buttons, but usually ones which aren't too essential. Then just see if it's worked. If it has you could try re-enabling some if you would prefer some buttons back. I usually just disabled them all before playing then re-enabled after playing. I never found any other solution which worked other than this.

I played the demo and didn't last very long (I blame BB for realising that I was twitchy and breathing down my neck :ranting2: )
However, the tables have been turned and I will get my revenge (BB's playing it a.t.m.)

I tried installing it under Vista, and it told me 'I'm just going to install DX9 as you don't have it, k?' So I stopped the install. Does anyone know if you can run multiple DirectX versions alongside each other, cos i'm already running DirectX10 and don't really want it to roll back just to play the demo.

Just let it do its thing, all the games try to install it, CoD4 etc. It doesn't cause a prob (BBB and I are both on Vista 64)

All this talk of FEAR2 reminded me that I never got around to playing FEAR so I ordered the platinum edition from Game (http://www.game.co.uk/PC/Action/FirstPersonShooter/~r332983/FEAR-Platinum/?s=platinum) (FEAR + both expansion packs for £15) and have found it to be really rather good.

The start and end of FEAR were great but it did become a bit "samey" in the middle. Worth persevering through it though :)

Just played the demo, and IT WAS AWESOME! Can't make me any more happier than with a mobile armour :yahoo:
And also I just remembered that I played the first one only to half way because of a bad computer, so I play it again or just read the story through ?

I played through the first fear and apart from the controls being a bit bit awkward did find it a bit samey as BB pointed out in the middle parts the endless corridors were a bit boring but getting to the end it indeed got better. On playing the expansions these too were good but again as with the cod series were not made by the original developers. Perseus mandate had poor textures and often glitches to the sky and combat areas making enemies disappear which was a shame. The building models were also poor with little realism to the environments outside such as windows with the same texture copying over and over again.

The one thing i loved about fear games were the mini walking turrets and the heavy duty soldiers which on dying made a satisfying communication ending beep. I also love the nail gun best gun i'd say in the game!

Hopefully fear 2 will be good. Pc zone gave it 80% overall and said the action was excellen, environments again samey with the cover system often not working properly. Also it said it lacked the original fear flare.

Just played the demo and glad to see that they have written a game that can still give me the willies.

You hear the music and you're afraid to turn around in case Almas' there.

Shudder.

The bit that got me was when she suddenly appears in front of you!

I remember climbing a ladder in the original fear and looking straight forward and she was crouching looking straight at me at the top of the ladder.

Ohhh yes, I remember that bit, made me jump! Also remember playing at 2 in the morning in the dark with headphones on and my wife putting a hand on my shoulder. I left a sizeable dent in the (12 ft high) ceiling......
Looking forward to being scared witless again (I think)

OK, I'm convinced by the demo, despite some visual artefacts letting the side down. Parts had the hairs standing on end, and one encounter with Alma raised a loud FFS, and a rebuke from the better half. Roll on the 13th.....

I have beaten the game now, and while its a killer game (you get tons of background info) its not quiet as scary as the first one. There are however plenty of hairraising moments :norty:

What's your verdict on FEAR 2? I've just finished FEAR 1 and both addons and really enjoyed it.

Excellent storyline, not as scary as FEAR1 although maybe that's just me. I have completed it on Normal difficulty and I think I will try it on a harder level as it felt a bit easy.

It certainly doesn't become as repetitive as the middle bit of FEAR1

Overall 8/10

I found in the demo at least the armour didn't make the satisfying end note noise when they died like in fear 1. Is this the case with all the armour? Killing the armour in the first one and having a satisfying static noise was fun :).

Still holding off buying Fear 2 but I will get it soon.

I'm really enjoying FEAR2. Not as scary as 1, but still some good moments. I agree with Blueball that normal mode errs on the easy side, but the storyline is excellent, even if it leaves my sympathies with Alma.

I started the game yesterday and found normal simply too easy. Moved it to hard and i still never go below my maximum medkits and simply chip away at my armour. Its easy mainly due to the behavior of the AI and the ability to pick up weapons, ammo and armour on a more regular basis than in the first. DEspite this the game has some good moments and the corridors are samey but at least theres a variety of objects and levels besides simply offices as in the first one.

Finished it up just now. I gotta say it wasn't nearly as scary as Fear 1 at any point, even though with better gfx you'd expect it to be. But maybe my FEAR 1 veterancy has to do with that, as I played the first few games a couple times over. It gets predictable after a while to see that there's a pattern in a scary bit followed by a combat bit, and the combat area's are laid out so that you have multiple approach routes, but that unfortunately also has the effect of being identifiable as something w/o any scary stuff right away.

I kinda found it weird they didn't do any scary things with the "press E and hold to lift" fallen over cabinets all the time. Woulda been perfect to put Alma behind them at some point :> Also, without spoiling... In the end, did she do what I think she did? xD
